A few inaccuracies. Sundadanio was split into 7 different species in 2011. The only species found in Malaysia is S. margarition on the island of Borneo (in the Sarawak region). The other species are all found exclusively in Indonesia on the islands of Borneo (Kalimantan), Sumatra, Bangka, Pulau Singkep, and Bintan. Since the true S. axelrodi is only known to be on the tiny Bintan Island across the straight from Singapore, the vast majority of Sundadanio in the hobby are not actually S. axelrodi, regardless of how they've been labeled. My Sundadanio are wild-caught S. goblinus. They may prefer soft acidic water but they do fine in hard, alkaline water so long as the tank is well cycled. They do use hardness as a signal for breeding, as most soft water fish do. Softer water to them means it's the rainy season when food is plentiful. Harder water just makes them think it's the dry season. I've personally found them to be much more robust and hardy than Microdevario kubotai. They enjoy high flow, though they do fine in low flow. They take powder-style nano foods quite readily, I had absolutely no problem there. My primary food that I use is Dr. Bassleer Baby + Nano, though I've used Aquarium Co-Op's Easy Fry Food too (which is just crushed up flake food). They feed primarily from the center on the water column. They'll feed from the surface a little bit they won't hang out up there. They don't really feed from the substrate at all, which is good if you're breeding shrimp in the same tank. They really won't eat shrimp babies unless they're swimming out in open water, and Sundadanio are so tiny that they only have a brief window before the baby shrimp are too big anyways. They typically stay out in the open and don't really swim through plants or hardscape at all. They do croak when stressed (out of the water, etc) but they also croak when sparring, which they do most frequently in conditions that are suitable for breeding (soft, acidic water, without significant perceived threats, such as in a species-only tank). Right now mine have a soft, acidic 75 gallon aquascape to themselves and they spar and croak almost constantly throughout the day, though especially in the morning. Since females are less colorful than males, collectors and retailers tend to focus primarily on males, making it difficult at times to have females in the tank. This is honestly one of the biggest obstacles in breeding them, though feeding the fry is probably the single largest obstacle for most setups. Otherwise, they breed like other small Rasbora-like species: they're daily egg scatterers that exhibit no parental care. Their eggs do not seem to be photosensitive.

I love them too! I did make sure that their bellies were not sunken when I bought them. And if the fish store claims they eat flake I immediately say let's put a little bit of food so I can see them eat flake. I also feed with dry fry food and baby brine since they have small mouths.

Wow Sundadanio Axelrodi! This fish is not easy to keep in the aquarium! They are prone to fin & body rot and will perish in just a few days when introduced to aquarium. May I have your tips to keep them well in the aquarium?

Thanks for sharing, i would like to ask, where did you get them as sundadanio axelrodi? Axelrodi was labelled to another sundadanio species from part of Indonesia. As i know axelrodi was only can find in my hometown in bintan, this kind of fish was found by me directly in the nature and never found in many number. So the deal is axelrodi never sold to anywhere cause 99% i'm the only one who know exactly where to get them in Bintan island Indonesia. Perhaps in the global market as labelled by axelrodi were not correct. It could be goblinus,rubellus, margariton or else.
