Port design plays a critical role in bass response. Slot ports in general have a significant amount of drag, and having a 1/2" wide slot port with a driver capable of moving that much air may be more of a restriction than we'd initially think. The "fuller" sound of the Savard that's noticeable in the video may be a direct result of the port being able to breathe better, rather than a characteristic of the sub itself. It's always difficult to tell with KZfaq videos, though! I might have to get ahold of both of these subs and play around with box designs to see which I can get the most out of. Thanks for posting this! :)

I'm getting close to being done with both builds for my daughter's car. They are graduating this year and I told them I would hook them up. One is a Skar SDR-12 with an RP-800 in 2.4 net with dual 4" precision ports tuned between 31-32hz. Its sealed tight in the pass through in her Mazda 3. The others Ford Fusion I am putting in 2 Sundown SA-6.5s through the back deck in .9 net with a single 3" precision port tuned around 34-35hz with a SAM-500D. I will be working on my son's GTI when I am done with these two. Right now I have a Hi-Q 8 I'll probably be installing along with a CDT ES-642i set. Don't have the amp yet. I'm thinking Crescendo S4...I wanted to do an HCCA 1000.4 but they sold out before I could get one ordered.

HiFi thanks for the compare....I am very intrigued with the Savard HIQ drivers...I have experimented with the Skar Audio SVR and SDR series and have been pleased with both. Ive also experimented with CT Sounds Tropo 6.5" and the 8" subs and was very impressed. Right now I am building a 3-8" e8 sub system and can't wait to hear it. I like the ported version of any subwoofers because it lends itself to higher efficiency and overall better sound. These Savard drivers are sexy as hell and based on reviews I really want to do a build on these guys....I pretty much stick to under seat enclosure for trucks but I can build anything. I love experimenting with subwoofers. For reference I am using Audio Control amps (LC1500.1 subs and LC4.800 on Morel Tempo Ultra mids/highs. Appreciate you and big D Williston audio for what he contributes to the car audio world. Peace brother and hopefully I will be starting my own KZfaq channel soon so I can join ya'll on this addictive venture....peace brother.

Vega, good video. I think you recorded pretty well too, BASS sounded clean. For me, I'm using Dre beats in-ear-phones and the Savard seemed to hit 45HZ and above really good. The sundown seemed to hit the lows a little better with my vibrations. The Savard was definetely more responsive and accurate. The value and accuracy of the Savard would make me also agree with you. I know both those companies make great subs. Sundown has been destroying Sh*t for years and I'm also glad that Savard returned from a layoff, with a bang. I wouldn't mind seeing Massive Hippo or Summo in this mix. A guy at my work had 3 Summo 8"'s in a Vette hooked up to a JL 1000. I was very impressed, but it is a two seater attached to a enclosed Hatch syle rearend. Technology is amazing. R/Kosmo

I had a set of savard hi q 15’s on a hifonics atlas in my 76 Datsun king cab when I was in high school around 1994. They looked a little different back then with a flat dust cap. I just mapped these both in WinISD Pro and the curve is almost identical when you put either driver in the other drivers box. The Sundown recommend enclosure brings the low end extension WAY down and peaks 1db up at 150hz. The Savard box has a nice peak around 36hz and doesn't drop below 0 until 190hz. Either way the curve is almost identical when swapped. I think the SA will be just as good as the Hi-Q in the Savard spec enclosure. Also you are a smart guy...you know the Savard box is MUCH more efficient with that 300 watts!

I really would like to see the challenge add old school subs as well. I don't even care about any type of prize or anything. I would just like to see old gear get used. And I will be using a pair of old orion 2ntense dvc 12's that I bought new in the late 90's for the challenge. I have a guy on SMD's forum that is helping me design a 4th order box for them. As to maximize their potential. I also just purchased a RF 400x4 for the challenge that will go along with my ppi, pc250, pc450, pc2100 I will be entering multiple divisions and doing a build log on the forum and possibly on here for the box and my 95 fj80 that they will be going in.

Savard was around in the early 90's, and made subwoofers that bitch slapped the competition. High quality hi sensitivity speakers. I guess they didn't pay taxes or something and shut down. Glad to see them back kicking ass. Ad far as the comparison goes, I have owned an array of subs, I am a basshead since the 90's, Sundown is known for taking megawattage and surviving, Savard is a quality before quantity out fit. So not surprised with your conclusion. From my experience a better comparison would be the Hi-Q vs a Massive Hippo. The sensitivity on Massive is excellent as is the Hi-Q.
@uncommonlogic2851
@uncommonlogic2851 4 жыл бұрын
I currently have 2 x Sundown X10's, and another box with 3 Massive Hippo XL 84'S.. At half the wattage, the Hippos sound Fuller and deeper that the X10's that require twice the wattage. It's the sensitivity that prevails once again. Sundown are for ego builds to brag about your insane wattage and bass output. For rich, quality sound and massive bass, it's MASSIVE. The Hippo XL's produce amazing full Low's with 8" subs. I mean AMAZING.
