I visited the Forbidden City in the winter of 2009 and it was unforgettable! As a Chinese/Taiwanese, visiting the place evoked deep emotions tied to the history and events I learned since I was young. The stories of each Emperor, his ministers, generals, queens, concubines, and all the other notable figures, as well as many lesser-known ciphers, made exploring the Forbidden City a profound experience as it triggered a nostalgic connection. Watching this makes me want to revisit Beijing! Thanks for the excellent content!

When I was an exchange student in Beijing, a professor told me that in the ancient time, government officials and ministers live outside the palace and they have to get up really early to get to work in the palace, because the palace is massive, it is a really long walk for them. Some emperors start to work at 5am, so his ministers have to get up at 3am!

If you are really cold, you can experience the northeast bathing culture in Beijing. However, it was a cultural shock😂Everyone in the big bathhouse bathed naked, and then there was a full-body massage in a spa like milk and red wine. You found that you would be in heaven. As a southerner, I was not used to it for the first time, but now I have to travel to the Northeast (Harbin, Changchun and Shenyang) every year.

Chinese drink hot water instead of cold water even in summer time! This is good for the body according to the traditional Chinese doctors. So, the short answer is, yes, you can drink the hot water.

Everything is huge in China, and you have to be well-prepared for that. The girl is lovely and positive all the time. You interpreted the Forbidden Palace well from a first-time visitor's point of view. The hot water or tea on the table is usually free for you to drink. The Chinese food in China is real Chinese food much better than the Chinese food you have back home in Britain.

I’ve lived in Beijing for 5 years, I have nothing bad to say really, probably only thing bad is too cold in winter 😂. But you imagine how gorgeous the forbidden city and temple of heaven would be if it is snowing in winter. Such a city with a lot of cool things. Another interesting thing you can do is to climb the abandoned Great Wall in summer, that would be the magnificent hiking in summer in even autumn time. Lovely. Smiling watching your video.🎉

Water towns and Chinese classic gardens in Yangtze river delta, are very pretty and unique, unlike Venice which was built to impress and very grande, Chinese water towns were built according to Chinese philosophy of being harmonious to nature, and Chinese classic gardens follow the aesthetic of imitating the natures, rather than the moulding and changing the nature ,as seen in my European gardens. I recommend Wuzhen (Xizha) , Shaoxing (Keqiao), they are less crowded than other towns and so pretty.

Just stumbled across your channel. I also had no idea that the Forbidden City was such a massive complex. I, like you, have always thought that the first courtyard was the the entire complex and was impressed enough with just that. It was a real eye opener for me as well. Just wanted to say the dishes you have which are heavy in sauce, such as that tofu dish, is normally had with white rice. If you mix it together, it rounds out the taste of the dish. Just a suggestion though. Love your videos and how you make travel so fun and exciting. Happy travels! Cheers.
