We had the most amazing time in China and share our experience with the world. Media and news representations don't always capture the reality, emphasizing the importance of firsthand exploration. We highly recommend everyone to visit atleast once to experience the rich culture, savor the cuisine, and witness the country for what it truly is ❤

@@but_at_what_cost I must correct you, I have been in Guangxi and other very poor Provinces, visited some of the most poorest areas in China. My wife is from a very tiny village in Guangxi. On my first visit to her village I was the first white person to ever visit the village, the entire village put a dinner on in my honor. My Anthony Bourdain moment. Sure these people are poor, but they all have something to eat. I love visiting these areas, in my opinion these are the true Chinese people, the most inviting and hardest working people I have met any where in the world.

White Aussie male here. Went to China and visited many cities. I never felt so safe being in a Country. I could go anywhere, any time of the day, leave my things on a table and order my food, and my things were still there. I have China's Police help me, and walked me, to the nearest public toilet at a mall (they carry no guns and they are Civic Police, not Militia Police like in USA). The people were so friendly, and many bailed me out when I had communication issues (I know very little Mandarin). The Cities in China are clean and their transportation system is out of this world. I could not get over how quiet the traffic in the cities were (in comparison to Western Cities traffic) because they have a lot of Electric Cars, compared to our Combustion Cars. Went to USA and visited many cities. I was constantly concerned. I was warned by many not to go to certain suburbs in the Cities. The Cities were dirty. Too many obese and angry people, and they carry guns (40,000 gun related deaths EVERY YEAR in USA, virtually zero gun related deaths EVERY YEAR in all other developed countries in the world). Their Police wear military utility belts full of arsenals. I would not venture out of any city after midnight. I saw too many people living in the streets and neglected. Their Civic Infrastructures and Civic Services needed a lot of repairs/replacements or addition constructions were required. USA is very much geared towards the good life of the Billionaires (1% own 90% of the Country's wealth). China is very much geared towards supplying a good Middle Class life style for ALL its citizens - and they still have more BILLIONAIRES living in China than USA. Beijing has more billionaires living there than those in New York City. Also, out of the top 10 cities where billionaires choose to live, 6 are in China, and only 2 are in USA.

Interestingly, in 1993, 5000 villagers in two villages in Hunan Province of China fought a small battle, using standard guns, homemade guns, mortars, homemade explosives, grenades, and detonators. If the army had not been sent to disperse the incident, it would have resulted in the largest knife fight death since the founding of New China, so China began a total ban on the use of firearms. In that battle, both villages had veterans leading the fight, using infantry 3.3 tactics, even loading carts and oxcarts with explosives, using alternative, coordinated tactics of walking tanks, digging trenches, building mortar positions, doing all the things war does, a crazy mob.

Good morning too. I have this encountered and would like to share. I have met a young couple in Thailand recently. They were from US and they were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US. We have happened to have a casual friendly conversation and I have asked them since they are so near to China, why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I told them China is very interesting, But I was surprised of what they told me. They said according to all their media reports in US and advice by their government and many people. They were advice and told not to travel to China. Even their parents don't allow them to go to China. They were told China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, poor rundown infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, homeless people are everywhere waiting to rob tourists are common even in broad daylight. Chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere, every minute where foreign visitors go. Foreign visitors from western countries can be detained for months or even years for no reason. All these is what they know about China. The couple is like below 25 years of age and already so badly brainwashed by their government and controlled media. This is really sad.

It was NOTHING like the lies we've been told back home. I loved the country, the people, their freedom, the total respect their government have for all its citizens to give them a good Middle Class life style. All their Civic Infrastructures and Civic Services were the best and they gave it to all. That's the way a government should be ... not just pouring in Tax Payers money into Corporations that have been conditioned to be extremely wasteful because its NOT their money.

The real reason the West doesn't want people going to China is because they don't want people to realise how far ahead and more civilised, safe and wealthy compared to the West. As this will cause the people to question their own government and their motives. It really is quite sad and evil what western governments do to their own people through manipulation and brainwashing let alone other people in foreign countries.

The biggest propaganda joke of the century , Chinese people need to be rescued from their government !!!😮😮 Funny , they were not saying that before 1949 ! When the imperialist powers carved the country up into foreign concessions and treated Chinese people as second class citizens in their own country ! The CPC inherited a broken , war torn , starving and poor country and in 75 years turned the country into a superpower , where Chinese people can hold their heads up high again and proudly look the world in the eye ...they certainly do not need the sympathy of these white supremacist social warriors with their fake concern for the "oppression" of the Chinese people ...the Chinese people know who really works for the Chinese nation and its their government not some foreign white saviour justice warrior ! Considering the state of some of the western nations maybe these justice warriors should worry about who really their own governments work for ? 😂😂

Hypocrites, double standards! Anyway I don't think the Chinese or the Govt are overly concerned about how they are perceived abroad or they've gone out on a charm offensive to correct those misconceptions. Yes, you see some locals putting out KZfaq or Tiktok posts to address those misconceptions but they are still largely in the minority that really bother to do so. The rest just get on with life, the free entertainment they get to watch over the Great Firewall via VPN about memes on Americans' stupidity and ignorance (I think Europeans diss Americans the most despite the familial relationships) or the silly political manoeuvres between Democrats and Republicans, etc... Been living in China for 13 years and never once I felt monitored or unsafe.. Been everywhere in China , from their vast grassland and desert cities to their rainforest, mountainous and snowy cities.. Each city or perhaps province will totally give you different experience in terms of culinary cuisines and local culture not to mention the cities that are in the middle of nature.. Indeed a beautiful country to live in and I hope everyone in the world will have the chance or open minded enough to experience China firsthand. SUGGESTION: Do a proper tourist visa next time to you can visit a lot more. Beijing- Xian-Chengdu (Where I live now)- Chonqing, Yangshuo, Guilin, Dali , Lijiang and Shangrila. From Beijing you will be heading down to south west China. Do the last 5 cities in the list maybe in your last 2 weeks in China. We are basically hostages surrounded by homeless, robbers, and thieves. Our smart voters decided that one can steal or rob up to $900 without consequences, stupidity has no boarders. Another reason not to go out after work is the traffic. It takes 2 hrs to go 20 miles during rush hours and it is now from 0600-1900. Public transport is a joke and even more unsafe. Our liberal politicians came up with the bright idea of letting the homeless sleep on our metro trains at night! The smell of urine saturates downtown Los Angeles and our metro. America the beautiful and the land of the free. One can argue we don’t have human rights anymore. The right to feel safe, the right to go out at night, the right to have a stroll in the park, the right to get to a destination at a reasonable time, and worse of all, our politicians rather spend our taxpayers $ on foreigners instead of better the lives of citizens and legal residents. We Americans are going the ways of the Romans, never conquered but declined from within.

Because we are safe here, citizens treat each other with sincerity and have nothing to hide. Therefore, everyone does not have to worry about their behavior being recorded or videotaped. Even if bad behavior is publicized, everyone is ready to condemn those bad behaviors. It’s the behavior rather than the photographer. Of course, our country is not perfect. If someone uses a one-sided lens and malicious lies to smear us, that will make us feel disgusted. We like to evaluate and introduce our country realistically, thank you for your neutrality.

If your next destination is Beijing, I would like to remind you to pay attention to some things. Beijing is the political center of China, different from Shanghai. The security measures in the Tiananmen Square and Chang'an Street area are stricter here. Some places require one day's advance application to enter, and some scenic spots may close on Monday or Tuesday. It is necessary to check relevant websites in advance to understand the situation. Many video creators come to Beijing without choosing the most representative place, wasting time in this huge city. I am surprised that they don't go to the Forbidden City and Summer Palace when they come to Beijing. This is the territory of the emperor and the representative of Beijing. If you want to learn about old Beijing, you can take a walk along the Shichahai area. In addition, the more modern place is Sanlitun. I didn't mention the Great Wall, I thought you were definitely going. The Badaling Great Wall and Jinshanling Great Wall are my recommendations. The first one is more famous, but going there during holidays would be a disaster as there are too many people!

@@sunkissedbucketlist allow me to add a few points. i think application isn't that accurate a word, it's actually called reservation coz no such "applications" have ever been denied (unless you are a known terrorist of course), at least not in my knowledge. you need to type in your ID or passport NO. on the official website to make the reservations, and if it's important holidays you'll probably need to reserve several days in advance because people all over the city would also like to visit. there's a maximum head count allowed for each of these attractions usually, since they are very ancient and fragile. i'm a local beijinger, if you need any tips just let me know. I speak a bit of english and traveled extensively around the city myself.

You guys are very open minded people. Unlike some other south eastern countries that mostly develop the capital cities, China's many other cities are also well developed. For next trip, suggest you to go to Chongqing and Chengdu in the south west, Shenzhen, Guangzhou in Guangdong province, and Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing in the east (near Shanghai). Now China issues two weeks free entry visa to a few European countries and Malaysia after Singapore has this for a while, unfortunately, not to UK yet.

I wanna add a small extra thing on cleanliness: I was hanging out with my friends in a shopping mall in China (Zhejiang), and when I went to the restroom I accidentally splashed water on the floor, a cleaner immediately showed up and cleaned it for me, which was really nice. I'm sure it was a coincidence maybe I was there exactly at the time when it was that cleaner's shift, but the restrooms in the mall were always super clean. Also the cleaners are mostly elderly men/women, it was nice seeing these people who could've been financially vulnerable in other countries are offered doable jobs. They get a decent income to afford housing/food/savings, the restrooms are clean, customers are happy to come and spend, a win win situation.

A little travel advice, If you're interested in seeing the chinese advancements and history: If you want to explore the 3000 years of history, go to Xi'an. If you want to explore the 1000 years of history, go to Beijing. If you want to explore the last 100 years of China going from colonization to modernization, go to Shanghai. If you want to see modern blade-runner-like infrastructure and seemingly impossible urban planning done in the last 40 years, go to Chongqin. If you want to see the future, go to Shenzhen. That's a very very rough and overall thing to say, and If we add the different landscapes and biomes that China offers, there would be no end to the list. And what's the best thing of all of that? That the whole China has first class safety no matter where you go, so there's nothing like "being in the wrong place at the wrong time" kind of bs, and you are able to freely explore at ease.

I live in a small town in the North of England, and I decided to count the amount of CCTV cameras whilst walking through the shopping area, I got about 200 yards and had counted 12. I'd never noticed how many there were before, simply because I hadn't paid any attention to them. So people getting bothered by cameras in China probably need to start paying attention to the amount of security cameras in their own location, when you do you realise there are loads everywhere, even on ATMs. The bulk of the cameras in China cover the roads for traffic violations, but the media fails to mention this.

Thanks for putting the cameras and police issue in perspective. If some tourists complain about this, they are being ungrateful and unappreciative because they don't have to worry about being pickpocketed, robbed, harassed, or worse during their stay. This is not the case in so many other places, like India, the US and Europe. About your next China trip, please go to Chongqing, often called the 'Cyberpunk' capital of China. Those media outlets might not have even been to China themselves and yet they're being paid to spread their message. Shanghai is quite populated, and especially during Chinese holidays, there are many tourists from other parts of China in Shanghai. At such times, the locals in Shanghai prefer to stay at home rather than visit tourist spots. :) Moreover, if you've experienced the crowdedness of the Subway Lines 1 and 2 during peak commuting hours, you'll have a whole new feeling. Christmas is not a traditional holiday, but many do take paat in the festivities and Christians are free to celebrate.,,,Yes there are millions of Christians and Catholics., This is for those who have never traveled overseas. Don't believe BBC, Guardian, or Times of London.

If you come to Beijing and plan to visit some historical sites or museums, you will most likely need to make reservations online in advance, such as the Forbidden City.😀

The law of resistance. What you resist persists. Whatever you don't like will keep showing up in your life. This is the main reason life can seem so baffling and uncontrollable

Been to China for a month....I enjoyed the places I've visited, was in Beijing and also Shanghai. Of course Guangchou alot cause I was working in Macau for a year. Very safe. Public transport extremely cheap. Of course I speak Mandarin and 4 other Chinese dialects since I was raised in Malaysia so it was even much easier for me to communicate with the people. Cameras everywhere but not to watch where I was going just for safety. So China extremely safe...need not worry about negative comments. Have more fun...if you are visiting Beijing, and you wanna visit Forbidden city, Summer Palace and the Great Wall, make sure you try to be there very early morning . You really don't wanna be there when the tour buses arrive. Haha! I was the the first person to walk in the Forbidden city(because I make sure I queue up at the ticket counter at very early) . So nice! when I can enjoy with very little tourists around

Due to the large number of tourists, attractions such as the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square need to make reservations on the APP in advance, and tickets cannot be purchased at the ticket office on the spot. Your ID will be checked when entering the tour, so be sure to bring it with you.

Was there a few years ago, no need advance booking... well I am sure there are more visitors now but anyway if really need to book then try to book the opening time for Forbidden City...still less tourists ,after 9.00 am that is when the tour buses comes in@@glw238

if you have roaming from your cell phone company, you will have no problem accessing google in China. I bought an international pass from T-mobile (US), and I did not have to use VPN when I went to Shanghai. I simply use my phone and my phone's hot spot for my laptop.

As a Chinese l've been living cashlessly for like what, 10 years now maybe. My job often requires me to travel to different cities for a week or 2, several times a year. Sometimes when I was packing my wife would put couple banknotes inside the inner pocket of my backpack, "just for emergency". I never stopped her, who knows, could be possible like the phone is dead or WIFI is out. For 10 years I never got chace to spend those emergency notes, and yesterday when I checked, WOW, I'm rich!🤑🤑🤑
