⚠️PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU COMMENT ⚠️I can't reply to all of you 😜
- I am aware now that it is called a PATTY. It resembles the meat pies I have had here so I mistakenly kept calling it that. The meat patty I know is the meat used for burgers which added to the confusion.
- I broke the patty so my husband could try the other half off camera. Otherwise I would not have split it.
- The restaurant I got this from didn't have coco bread at the time.
- On the menu it did not say Callaloo, it was called Sautéed Spinach (Bhagee). Not all sides here are Jamaican.
- The Sautéed Cabbage was called that on the menu, so I called it that.
- I was lucky enough to visit Jamaica a month after this was filmed to try authentic Jamaican food and it was amazing ❤️Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for watching 💕

Omg.. Iam Jamaican 🇯🇲 , and you are the best! All of Jamaican food there looks authentic. Mac cheese isn't common but if we had to choose an American dish it would be Mac and cheese. You slurped the oxtail bone just like a natural Jamaican 🙆. Fun facts- If your Beef Patty flakes it's authentic. Only beef. Authentic jerk chicken fall off bone, meaning it was marinated over night then smoked grilled. I'm jelious because they have only American Jamaican food where I live 😔. Congrats.

Omg thank you for commenting! I thought mac and cheese was odd but the owners are from Trinidad and Tobongo and supposedly it’s common there. I’m sorry I’m not very familiar with Jamaican food except from what I researched online and what I was told when I visited. I mistakenly called these meat pies at the time but omg these beef patties were so flaky and so delicious! Filipinos eat oxtail as well but the way this oxtail was prepared....!!!!!!!!!.....never had a better preparation in my LIFE!

Sunny Sharde yay! Love your vid! It's just patty love. There's beef patty, cheese patty which is just beef with cheese, powerhouse (or mega and cheese if you get it from juici patty) which has tomatoes and lettuce, vegetable patty, chicken patty which is what you called the curry one (that's also always spicy as well), soy patty and shrimp patty. We also have them in loaf form! I miss home. The difference between Caribbean curry? Hmm I don't know. Maybe ours (and Indian curry) are a little stronger depending on the brand. The most original brand in Jamaica is betapac curry powder and we've been using that for over 30 years I think. That's what we all grew up using. It also depends on how much pepper you put in it. Some like it without pepper so they cook it without and some like a very small piece to give the curry extra flavor, or more if they like it spicier. It depends on the pallet and who cooks it. We're very picky about our curry (maybe our food in general). Anyways I love Filipino food too. Hope you had lots of fun in Jamaica (I wrote this before completing the video). One love! ❤️️❤️️

Predominant spice flavour - Jamaicans call it pimento , everyone else calls it allspice. The pepper is always scotch bonnet, but habanero is a sad substitute. Thyme is the third part of the Jamaican flavour trifecta. 🇯🇲

I wish I could reach in and snatch one of those lunch boxes! They look soooo good! Just one thing, the patties seem to take some effort to break in half. Was it as hard as you made it seem? Baked Mac & cheese is found in Jamaican cuisine but is not typical street or restaurant food. The curry found in the Caribbean is spicy often with ginger and pepper added in cooking. Loved your vlog and you ended it right, with nap time! That's exactly what happens 😄.

You should try the plantain the next time. It is a kind of banana, and it can be very sweet depending on how ripe it is when it is cooked (usually sliced on a diagonal and fried).

The rice and peas, as Jamaicans call it, is really rice and kidney beans cooked with coconut milk, sometimes a dab of butter or margarine and a number of seasonings/spices such as onions, escallions (green onions), thyme, pimento (all spice), whole pepper (capsicum) and plum tomatoes,Two rules of thumb: the rice should be cooked to a shelly not risotto consistency and the pepper should ideally be left whole as if it is cut or burst it may make the rice too peppery or hot. That oxtail really looked good. The patties - pies as you called them - also seemed tasty. The flaky crust is best and and I particularly like them nicely spiced and piping hot, that is, right out of the oven Thanks for sharing.

Beef patty is my favorite and I like the crust. The beef has thyme, habanero peppers and something else. So good. The next favorite is oxtails I think. I like jerk chicken but it also be a little dry to me.

The oxtail goes with the rice and peas/ jerk chicken goes with the white rice and the vegetables goes with the oxtail also beef patty is good but the curry patty I have no idea where that come from. Jamaican normally have beef chicken and vegetables patties.. oxtail look a little over cook it’s not intact and gravy look a little watery don’t see any butter beans which is a must with oxtail
