I traveled from Takamatsu to Numazu via Okayama, Osaka by Sunrise Seto overnight express train. This movie shows you my travel experience from Takamatsu to Numazu by Sunrise, my Udon dinner in Takamatsu too. I show you Sunrise mostly but in the beginning, this movie shows you the things around Takamatsu station too.

I took the Sunrise Izumo from Yonago to Numazu in Sep 2019, in the nobinobi seat. At Yonago there is a 7 Eleven next to the station you can buy food and drink at. But they also have rail souvenirs including about the Sunrise Izumo (I got Sunrise Izumo and N700 Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen shaped fridge magnets). I bought a Sunrise Izumo Amenity kit there that has extras including a small towel that you don't get in the Nobinobi seats or most compartments, including the single. My carriage's door didn't open at Numazu, but luckily the next stop is not far along the line at Atami and I was able to get off there. That was strange. In your video, it looks like all the doors are open.

You'll notice there is a ledge next to the window. It was great to buy some food (ekiben!) and drink at the station before boarding and just sit on the bed (like Takeshi I got an upper level compartment) and look out and watch the view and the night lights etc go past while enjoying the food and drink (in my case the drink was a chu-hi alcoholic cocktail😄),

It's a shame that most overnight trains in Japan no longer operate :(

Yeah especially so many night trains are returning in Europe, I think it's a big mistake by the JR Companies. Shinkansens can't get you to Sapporo, or to other places they do serve earlyish in the morning if you have a morning appointment. Taking a night train is a very efficient way to travel. I don't think the JR companies understand this.

this is such an amazing and helpful video. thanks for this! I got the railpass and arriving next week. I want to try a night train and I don't mind whereever it goes. If I can get any twin deluxe I will go to whereever it goes. Do you think it'd even be possible within the next 2 weeks to get a berth for 2 persons to anywhere? I just want the experience.

Can you book this train via JR online booking service? if I have a JR Pass, and want to take the compartment, do I have to pay in full or just the premium?

If you buy the JR Pass through the official site, you can book Nobi Nobi seat on this train through the official site. Please refer other movie in the link below: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLSbh8uDqZe-e2g.html If you take this train from the stations in the west side, such as Takamatsu, Okayama, Izumoshi, Osaka, you can also book a seat on this train at JR West online reservation site: www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/overview/ But if you use this site, you have to pay a seat fee even if you use Nobi Nobi seat.

I was hoping to try this train in 2022 and I have asked a few questions on your website. However, after later realization, I would be booking the train at the tail end of the Sanuki Takamatsu matsuri and Awa Odori Matsuri. Would it be considered too risky to book a trip for this timeframe?

Now that you can book seats and sleepers online, I think it's okay if you book one month in advance.

@@JPRailcom Oh! I didn't know you can book online! I will be in Japan when the 1 month mark starts, Tokyo specifically. I guess that means I could still get to a ticket office? Also do Reservations start at 10:00 or when the ticket office opens?

It looks like a nice train. I'm curious how you slept. On a lot of the overnight trains here in Australia, people complete the rails are too thought to get decent sleep.

For me, the running noise of the train is so comfortable that I don't care. However, some people may not be able to sleep much.
