200 miles, or a double century, may seem like a daunting prospect for a single day's cycling, but it is more accessible than you might think. Conor and Ollie have teamed up with Vitus to prove that its not only possible, but a very achievable goal for anyone!

Actually I just came back from my first multi day cycling event with 150 riders (4 days, 420 miles / 650km) I thought I wouldnt make it. Day 3 was the longest one, and the most hilly one by far! (I never had to use the easiest gear ever before). But I made all of it! And I'm proud :) This was my first long distance experience ever. Now with this experience, I'm confident that I can go even harder! I'm now going to make a 200k route this friday. Goal is 25 km/h in average (it's quite flat. only 800m in hight) I can do 31 km/h on a 60k - so lets see. Everything is planned out already. I'm very exited! Wish me luck. PS: I bring 110kg (230lbs) to the scale - no excuses, guys. (When I started cycling in march, it was 125 kg (265lbs).

Did my 1st 200 mile ride this past June 21st SOLO. Was an awesome time besides bonking between miles 145-180. That was a very dark time but kept my nose the the grindstone and finished. I’m only 4 years into cycling so if I can do it anyone can, just got to want it.

200 miles solo, that's impressive! It's easy to forget how you constantly have to fight yourself to keep pushing yourself forward, especially solo. But once you conquered yourself, the feeling is so satisfying you're instantly looking for the next challenge. Well done!

@petesmith1924 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah nice! I did my first 200 solo a few years back then did a 250 (400km) solo last year, then another this year. This year was 125 miles into a headwind, then 50 miles of saw tooth Welsh/ Shropshire Hills - hardest 50 miles I've ever done on a bike. Still another 75 to go at that point, and I punctured in the pitch black with 15 miles to go! I think that's what they call character building!!! Brutal, but so memorable. gonna try for a triple century next June...

@Advanced Driving A few years ago, while visiting out grand kiddies in Amsterdam, I borrowed my son in law's e-bike to ride from Amsterdam to Apeldoorn to watch the start of the Giro. 175km on a 22kg e-bike that had enough battery for around 50-60km. Fortunately, it was pretty flat, with only 400m of climbing over the 175km, but it was still pretty tough on such a heavy bike with limited battery. It was a long day, especially given the 3-4 hour break in Apeldoorn to watch the opening TT for the Giro. Would've been nice to charge the battery at Apeldoorn, but I'm not a very bold Aussie traveler, so didn't attempt to try that.

tbf his fitness has been pretty consistently strong, even before he joined GCN (check out his hill climb days). Since he's been with the channel he's been the token "strong amateur", yeah he's up against ex-pros, but he's been their equal or above more times than not. Everesting, hour record, Tour des Stations, the man is strong physically and mentally

That's just a meme bro. The only times he get's dropped is when cycling against retired pros. That's basically like boxing against Hulk. I road my first double century on my 63rd birthday last year. I'm thankful for podcasts and anti-inflammatories. The first 150 was pretty non eventful. The last 50, my knees were screaming at me. It was some of the worst pain I've ever experienced. I was 99% sure that it wasn't anything other than pain from overuse. Healed up in 4-5 days. Very glad that I did it; however, it's back to centuries for me. Once was enough.

I did my first double century this summer. It was on a fixed gear with a similar amount of elevation. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I thought it would be dark by the time I finished, but I actually still had an hour and a half of daylight left, leaving around 5:30AM and finishing just before 7PM. I failed a 300K a few years ago, so I learned from my mistakes then.

In other years, the GCN presenters visit all sorts of beautiful and exotic locations around the world, but getting lost in Salisbury and taking a detour through a urine-stained lift in a carpark is surely the most relatable experience for someone who has spent any time trying to navigate the car-centric cities of the UK by bike.

There's actually a double century sportive in Norfolk. It's called the Round Norfolk Epic and it's essentiallya lap of the entire county (probably a lot flatter than this though)

I did that with a friend in 2018. It was a hot, dry July day (so plenty of sunlight) with as little wind as you can ever get in Norfolk. After leaving at 0515, we finished at 1855, which was about 2 hours better than we expected. It was well supported by feeding stations. For me, saddle pain got no worse after around 75 miles.

Well done, chaps! Quite vicarious for the rest of us. Can’t stress enough the importance of a steady stream of long-chain well diluted carbs from well before starting such a ride. Ought to try the Pacific-Atlantic Cycling (PAC Tours) “Elite Tour”, a qualifier for the Race Across America (RAAM). If you can do the full tour, averaging 200 miles a day for 14.5 days straight, without taking a rest day, you qualify to enter the race. It’s a fully supported group ride, (if they still do it,) and there was a pack of about a dozen in the lead group cranking it every day back in `98. After setting the pace each day, by day 13 I was spent, but still rolling! Great riders, good times! And now, long ago.

We've got a whole series of these here: the California Triple Crown. They tend to be challenging rides in stunning locales since one needs a lot of open space to get the distance done. You even earn a jersey if you do enough of them in a year: did six and earned mine. Glad to boys had fun!
