Thats a tough install with the veluxs and roof pitch. I always think it would be handy to check my battery level while using the facilities. That is an excellent design addition. May have to pinch that!

Great choice in manufacturer, Sunsynk. I have a 5kw hybrid inverter, big brother to yours I think ... connected DC coupled to 16 DMEGc 405watt panels. 6.4kws in total on 2 arrays. The inverter charges 2 200amp/hr Sunsync 5.2kw wall mounted batteries in my double garage outside, then takes on the daily load in the house until darkness hours, whereby the batteries kick in. Great pieces of kit. Since February this year I've only been back to the grid on 2 days for power. Interesting point in the settings you'll find. If you look on "system mode" ... you may see a grid trickle setting. I'm told you can set this to 0 (zero) watts, providing you don't have a pre-paid meter. The default setting is 20 watts, but it does add up. ;) Three words of advice ... get bird mesh. :)

Pretty sure MCS says 400mm round the edge, but they also say you can do less with calcs for wind loading and providing things are sufficiently braced (i.e. additional hooks).

I was seduced by Keith Gough’s enthusiasm. “Yes, I must get a SunSynk system.” Luckily there was a local Master Installer, so I stumped up the cash for a 3.6 ecco inverter and 5.2 battery, just like yours. Connection between my Consumer Unit and Inverter is about 8M of 4mm T&E, not 6mm like yours. No trunking between the invertor and battery. No glands on the isolators, plastic just hacked away. No warning label on the PV cable in the loft, just clipped so they look like satellite coaxial. Obviously didn’t use PV Ultra, probably couldn’t get any! No DC surge protection, so no extra 6mm earth. I gave the installer the 20amp type A RCBO for the CU, I had it in my spares, so they didn’t have to get that. And this is the difference between an Electrician leading the project and what joe public gets. I could have told the installer that it wasn’t good enough but basically, I don’t want them back. As for the inverter, the rcbo has tripped twice, both times in the morning when the battery is out of charge and I switch on my 2.75kw kettle. Annoying but just resetting causes the inverter to alarm. No Sun on the panels, just noise on the PV string. From then on, it’s a right pig to get started normally again. Bottom line. I have no regrets having SunSynk and would recommend them. The installer not so. For those questioning Gary’s socket in the toilet. How else is he going to power the smart speaker that comes with a 3 pin plug transformer? Gary, you should have used a wandering lead from the landing! Good work Gary. Thank you.

More batteries you can’t have too much I’ve just finished building mine 14.4kW think I could do with another 4.8kW I didn’t think my 3.2kW solar would completely charge my 14.4kW but it does and then some but only the depths of winter is the true test for it all. I went all AC so I could have the batteries and the solar as two power sources for those high kW appliances

I had a sunsynk inverter and batteries installed. Only problem I have is the batteries can only be discharged down to 10% and can't find a way around this. Have you come across this problem too? (Wasting 10% of the battery capacity seems just criminal)

You can't discharge any lithium battery to 0%. Sunsynk themselves say 10%
@rbee3936
@rbee3936 7 ай бұрын
@@jacktissington You should be able to since they have a depth-of-discharge of 100% - all LiFePO4 batteries can. In any case, why does the inverter allow you to set it to 0% if it doesn't work? A bug? An oversight? Just not been tested? If you tell your system to do it, it should do it and not disobey you...

You have 5 ways to break your solar DC circuit at zero current and a pile of batteries and heat generating breakers and electronic equipment in a small bathroom indoors! An external shed or garage or boundary wall installation might be bigger, easier and safer?

You don't need a generation meter. Tell your installer to read section 5.7 of the latest edition of MIS 3002 published by MCS in May, 2023.

Relying on software derived metering is risky in terms of MCS compliance imho. Say for example your inverter fails, software drops out or some kind of glitch of that sort. Knowing the generation at a local physical meter ensures things are done correctly. That said with the adoption of smart metering and (generally) single source generation that box can be covered via the suppliers metering arrangement. Although that wouldnt account for charging a hybrid battery up from the grid in the way a local metering setup would. Food for thought.

@@electrician247 What are you talking about? Why does a new installation require generation metering? Have you even bothered to read the document mentioned?
@electrician247
@electrician247 7 ай бұрын
@@VinoVeritas_ my comment is pretty clear Vino. I have read the standard and the proposed drafts currently in production. Indeed I offered input into them during the public comment stage. Some consumers will opt for separate export and import supply arrangements and while the suppliers meter accounts for that generally. They have no direct reference to the flow of energy direct to a hybrid inverter in terms of using the grid to fill the battery and also export to it. SEG has some unique and interesting requirements when you delve into it. Plus some consumers will opt for subsequent generating equipment say an AC coupled battery or garden based PV system as I have at my own home. Individual metering beyond the components in the inverters and software alongside them is a very sensible approach for installers wanting to keep things to the letter. Of course we can all interperate things differently and form an approach we are happy with. Much like all elements of electrical work. I clearly read and understand 5.7.1 differently to yourself. But I would close with when the suppliers meter is changed, inverter replaced and such (which over a 25 year lifespan is more than likely) having a fixed metering product that is owned by the system owner is a reliable and sensible method to achieve compliance. Unless of course a generation meter of the likes GivEnergy stipulate is utilised within the consumer unit I see nothing wrong with a traditonal meter to cover all of the points above. Hope that helps pg 15 here for anyone who may stubble across this thread mcscertified.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/MIS-3002_Solar-PV-Systems-V5.0-Final-for-publication.pdf

@@electrician247 It was a simple question to answer. Why is generation metering required for a new installation? What purpose does it serve? It's irrelevant what future standards may or may not state, it's only MIS 3002 version 5 that's relevant today. However, I'm happy to hear that you decided to take part in the public consultation earlier this year. As for SEG requirements, these generation meters are totally irrelevant. Stop pretending everything is open to interpretation, it's not.
