I'd recommend shining a flashlight into the scupper plug holes from underneath and looking into the hatches and seeing if you can see light shining through to check for thickness in the plastic, Especially the holes for the trolley

Hey Alex would love to hear your opinion on the vanhunks elite pro vs say an oldtown 12pdl, hobie outback or possibly even a bonafide p127. I want a boat that can handle the west coast seas and can be able to handle surf launches. I know the hobie will do it all but I'm not 100% sold on fin drives

Hi Alex. I’m from South Africa 🇿🇦 and also purchased a VanHunks Tandem Sauger. I opted for the pedal drives but now I’m wondering if I should’ve taken the fins instead. What’s your opinion as I haven’t taken collection of the boat yet.

Pros, the kayak is appealing in it aesthetics. It looks good. I like the weight is centered and the way the kayak sits in the water is level and the it's obvious the floatation is good. You were sitting high out of the water and the freeboard was excellent for a sit on kayak. The reach to the tank well appeared overly long. It is though a big kayak. It has tracks a plenty and plenty of rod holders. The scuppers should be replaced with one way plugs to vent water overboard. Stability both primary and secondary appears good. Price is reasonable in todays market. Only a few things to address and it would be perfect.

I don't know if it is your fastening of the pod to hold the drive or the design, but the execution of the pod fastening appears weak. The fact the pod is moving the whole time you are using the drive is going to cause excessive wear and an expected failure. The Pro Drive broke when you were putting stress on it and the pod was again moving around transmitting the energy into the structure instead of directing it into the propeller. The structural integrity of the support failed during the twisting as the fastening was allowing undue flexing and movement.

I have considered and I would like to see the side mount trolling motor mounted and demonstrated. It might make a decent salmon boat.

Aliex, great to see you back testing these boat's again. You helped me research my kayak. And now there's been alot of competition, just in 2 yrs since I bought mine. You're alway's honest. Some other chanel reviews only focus on positive thing's. We need the real Aliex true reviews. Love the open deck, if you plug it, and run a Bixpy, Torqueedo, or Nk-180. But that drive issue is important. Great job bro..🙏 😎 🎣

I want to hear your comparison opinion versus other "paddle/pedal/power-Pod" style kayaks. I've seen plenty of after market third party clips and other hardware fixes for "pod" style interchangeable drive kayaks like Vibe Shearwater for example. Seems like they all wear out or are not ready for primetime heavy use off the shelf. BTW the phone conversation with owner was pure gold! That's the kind of stuff that makes you and your channel unique!

Thanks Bryan, I think the interchangeable pods will be at a disadvantage because more moving parts but maybe they can do it like Pelican and bolt it it, I have several comparison videos in mind

Dose the transducer have to be lower then the kayak or will it still work if it is a little bit higher then the kayak is the fish finder have side scan

Best to follow the manufacturer's guidelines on that but, as long as the transducer touches water it should work fine

I think you misunderstood what I was saying " you hear this, I hope you can hear it, IT was that tight" me referring to the sound the screws makes when it can't be tighten any more, and I was referring to the one holding the drive down not the one I used to make the sound

the angler has a lot of storage, if it is a motor battery you asked about, you i would put it behind the seat in a blackpak, the shearwater i got tons of videos on it search "aliex shearwater 125" the most recent one it is here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qs6oaparuKnJgqc.html yes shearwater in my opinion is a better boat than the vanhunks pro angleer

I purchased my Vanhunks Mahi Mahi about a year ago they started off with plastic clips for the fin drive they then sent me metal clips then they redesign the whole box with like Hobie drive clips they sent me a whole new box when I noticed a whole lot more play jus like you saw in the video a simple fix I wrapped my box with 1/8 thick pipe foam insulation tape worked like a charm
