Harrington and Richardson was founded in 1871 after the civil war in Worcester Massachusetts. They were in business till 1986, then they started up again as H&R 1871, and were later bought out by Marlin, and were again closed down in 2015.
They made many caliber firearms, break top revolvers, swing out cylinder revolvers, shotguns, and I believe they manufactured the “New England Firearms” or “NEF” brand firearms as well.
I have live in Massachusetts my whole life, and I am appalled by how the politics in this state have turned from starting the American revolution over taxation, unlawful search and siezures, and the desire to live free and part of that is by owning and carrying firearms.
I like the history of firearms in our state, there have been many good manufacturers here, and I like buying them. S&W, H&R, Auto Ordnance, New England Firearms, Massachusetts Arms co, and probably a host of others I’m missing… I also like buying firearms made in our state because our AG has been so anti gun, and many have lost the spirit of how this great state started. Buying and using guns made here is my way of sticking it to the politicians that hate guns and lost the spirit of what we stand for.

I grew up using single shots, using them for over 40+ yrs now I see no reason to change. All the yrs I've shot , I have never had any issues with any of the 8 I used every yr. Just regular cleanings and regular use. Simple and very,very reliable..

I have the H&R model 58 12 gauge 28 inch barrel modified choke in near mint condition made in 1977 and yes I shot around of skeet back in the early 90's and my right shoulder was black and blue and purple for at least 10 days and I never shot again until about 30 years later when I finally put one of those Limbsaver Recoil pads on it and what a difference that made for shooting or hunting with !! It sports a front green fiber optic clamp on sight, a nice slip on leather sling, an extended hammer spur for easier cocking and I can now shoot 6 or 7 other different calibers out of it using those gun adapters and this was a Christmas gift from santi claws in 1978 when I was only 13 years old my very first real gun !!!

I have the NEF single shot 20 gauge with a 22 inch barrel and short youth stock which I bought new some 20 years ago for $125. I recently installed a hammer extender for easier cocking. It's an inexpensive fun shotgun but could also be a serious wilderness survival gun. Nice video, sir.

This one struck me when I looked at it. There was a nicer one, same model at Cabelas, but it was $100 more and it was loose when the action was open. Mine is pretty tight but was only $200 and has a few specks of rust I need to address

My wife and I grew up in Rhode Island & Massachusetts. We couldn't wait to leave those socialist/communist/Marxist states. We left there in 1999, moved to Wyoming, and never looked back. If I were a firearm manufacture in MA, I would close my doors and move to a firearm friendly state where they are appreciated. The H&R's were great guns for the price. My first shotgun was a H&R 12ga. that I purchased at K-Mart in Milford, MA. I had a lot of fun hunting with it. Massachusetts isn't a "little" on the liberal side, it's one of the most far left states in America. All that said, I enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I know Mass is very liberal. I would love to move away, but my kids are in school here, I have a nice house so I’m going to fight the politics until I can’t take it anymore, then decide if I leave or not.

I love mine for hunting . Back when i picked mine up i had a choice between the 12 gauge and the 20 gauge and i chose the 20 gauge do to it is lighter . I am weight sensitive do to a hip replacement. It is a perfect fitment. Mine looks nothing like it did . The box store finish is gone and it has addons but it just works . Oh back on 95 i paid $80. For it .

I had entertained shortening the barrel on this, but then I’d lose the choke, and it would not be as accurate at fort her distances. I have a Mossberg 500 with 18 1/2 “ barrel in .410 so I didn’t need to shorten this one

You have to find a trigger guard first... I don't think they are hard to replace, but I have never taken the receiver apart on one. try gunpartscorp.com or ebay for a trigger guard, and do a google search for field strip or detailed dis-assemble

The hinge of the forefend and the trigger guard is made from poor quality plastic. The hinge plastic will break into pieces. Why they went to so much trouble to make a good gun and then cut costs by making a plastic hinge is beyond belief. 5 years is their maximum life.

I don't know if you're going to reply to this or not but I would much appreciate if you would I have a 16-gauge variant of this gun and whenever I try to open the breach of it it'll move about three quarters of an inch and then stop I was wondering if you had any ideas about what might be causing it to me it feels like something might be catching it I can't see into the barrel to actually look
@crankygunreviews
@crankygunreviews Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what would cause that- there’s not a lot to these things. Maybe the release mechanism is damaged, like a piece is broken off and is catching or there may be a rim from a shell casing stuck in there. Probably best to bring it to a gunsmith if you can’t get it open

Since you mentioned your state’s political issues, I thought I’d remind everyone to research the candidates in your state’s election. My state is very leftist too, hoping to send some of them packing. Not that I trust any politician. Like you’ve said many times in your videos, I had no idea gun laws were so restrictive until I bought my first. God bless 🇺🇸 👊
