Great job! I like how simple and straightforward this video is. People who don’t like this drilling method. You can simply use compressed air, vacuum, or wd40 to remove the metal dust before actually pulling the seal out. This is a great way because you don’t run the risk of scratching the crankcase with an edged tool.

Why wouldn't they do that anyways? Metal dust? Big deal, get the job done. And just use a paper towel. And clean up with whatever. For the people that are just saying, just use a flat head screwdriver or use a puller. Now I got a hardware store guy saying the same thing he doesn't understand. It's metal, you can't just stick something in there. It's hard as a rock. You have to drill holes. Nobody cared to warn me about this of course. And all of the timing belt videos of course. Just skipped literally how they got the crankshaft seal out. The guy at the hardware store is like. Just take out the shaft. I give up. It's always when I'm working on my car I have these problems. Yet, I can search through 10,000 forums and videos. And because the people in the video didn't want to show how it's done properly or how they run into problems. You lose time. It's very important.

If you use this method (and I have) you must use a magnet to remove all metal fragments before pulling the old seal and then again after the old seal is removed. The area must be free of any metal fragments as the smallest fragment could damage the replacement seal.

@@charlesdickens6706 You know a better method on 1990-1993 Honda Accord timing belt videos they don't show Crankshaft seal removal? One guy did a video and just cut away and didn't even show it. When they cut away, never assume it wont be complicated? You can't take a puller and go through it. It's a crankshaft seal, not a camshaft seal. METAL DUST KILLS A Gasket???? EATS AWAY (I"LL MAKE SURE TO CLEAN THEN), ALsO OnLy UsE GeNuIne HoNDa Fluid (MORE BS internet rumor), also never CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID out of the fear that it already has a problem and can make it worse (now people don't do it all). Internet advice, or multiple people's advice is just terrible some times. I'm sick of wasting hours on my car not getting a job done because someone skipped a crucial step or didn't show it. The most crucial part of it all, is to tell people went wrong. So when we get to tricky part. We don't have to waste time buying more tools. It seems most tools can't even be found at a hardware or toolshop? If you ever made a decent wage. Maybe you could have a garage so you can take your TIME??????????????? Apparently, can't afford that. Retail store wants me to start a family yeah right. Working on cars sucks. For the people that are just saying, just use a flat head screwdriver or use a puller. It's a crankshaft seal (APPARENTLY BECAUSE THEY CREATED THE FEAR THAT IF YOU DAMAGE BOTH THE INNER OR OUTER SHAFT IT WILL LEAK FOREVER!). And by the way not all seals are the same. You can't find screws as small enough as this person has to screw in there and stay. Then FEAR of making a mistake makes the job not get done (oh you can damage this and that) (okay than you do it, it then !!!!! like the slightest little nick, now they say it's on the shaft and not the outside of the shaft. Then a person say it's both, you can't win. And also, not selling tools you need and having to wait an extra 5 to 6 days because something goes wrong. There should be a something goes wrong! In videos that people do.

Or... you could do what I've been doing for 40 years. Jam a flat screwdriver into the rubber part of the seal, pry sideward and downward on the head of the screwdriver, and the seal will come out of it's hole. No drilling or metal dust, and much less time spent messing with it. However, you did press it in nicely - with a well-designed tool. ;)

Honda 1990-1993 accord cranshaft seal. Is made out of different material than. It's got a hard steel barrier. It's hard as a rock. For what you are talking about is the crankshaft seal. Since nobody bothered to do a video showing how they did it. The guys that did the timing belt job. Just cut away showing that it was already done. By not providing the problem or solution. If you don't want to see metal shaving just use a small punch to create a small hole for the screw to start. I wouldn't used a self tap screw. Drilling is too risky.
@johnlagreca6288
@johnlagreca6288 5 ай бұрын
I have done tons of these seals. Mostly used the proper tool. In a pinch I have drilled about a dozen of them. I feel a self tap screw has more chance of walking off the seal than a nice sharp drill bit. A punch can walk off too, maybe not if the engine is on a stand at eye level and not between a radiator or a strut tower. Once I had the bit walk off the seal, score the crank seal surface and had to sleeve the shaft I never drilled another one. As for metal shavings, just flush them down to the bottom of the pan, they will either get caught in the pickup screen, the filter or the fill plug magnet on a properly maintained engine.

Oh by the way I just watched Eric the Car Guy (Only use Honda Transmission Fluid GUY) (Many transmission lost because of the Haynes manuals saying use Dex2, but these transmission fluid companies couldn't copy that from HONDA *ROLLS EYE YEAH RIGHT). Anyways, it's obvious he nicked the camshaft probably with his flat head? So I guess that rumor created that there will be a infinite leak failed by a apparently a Honda Guy? Give me a break. I ask you guys to create your own video showing how you can get a hard as a ROCK crankshaft seal (not a camshaft seal) out just by using a puller. You can't just gouge without it hitting it. You also can't get it through there. Maybe his 1997 honda accord maybe they improved the seals to be more easy verses the 1990-1993 era. Any proof of these silly rumors? Now shavings which there are some normal amount of shavings in the engine. AND Transmission? Can instantly do what? To a seal? You would clean up anyways? MAN, try to be a perfectionist on a job. I like to see how anyone do a honda 1990-1993 accord timing belt job. Let's see you do this nightmare? Get real? Yes I'm going to complain. This isn't interior decorating where you are obsessed with looks and perfectionism. This is a car, it has all sorts of chemicals dripping down day, noon and night. Power steering fluids, Motor oil, Penetrating oil you have to use on that nasty tension er bolt. You cannot slip a special socket on it. There is not enough room. They poked a hole in the upper timing belt cover so it can rust nicely for you fans that want to use lock tight and think that. Creating fear and wasting a whole day thinking I can just do what Haynes book tells me to do is bogus. Yeah just put a flat head through and pull out. KNOWING THAT PEOPLE are being so perfect now claiming even the outer shaft and inner shaft even slightly nicked to create a leak. Have any proof so I can complete the job? OH AND DO IT WITHOUT A GARAGE!!! Not everyone can afford that. And do it with a PERSON THAT THREATENS TO EVICT YOU NICE. Nightmare dealing with people some times. I'm just saying. Let us get real and get straight facts and not rumors. PRIVATE PROPERTY IS PART OF THE CONSTITUTION LETS SEE YOU DEAL WITH THAT. DON"T TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH MY OWN PROPERTY.
