I’d rather be safe than sorry. We use cast iron pans to cook. They get extremely hot. I can take one out of the oven and place it right on my cotton potholder. If I was just putting a serving bowl on the table without it being hot, then acrylic would be fine. I just don’t chance it with cast iron.

This is good to know , I think just lifting a pan it’d be fine

I have also used acrylic yarn. If something is super hot, it may look a little melted, but never has it caught on fire. This is my favorite pattern that I have used. I am called the potholder lady as I give away potholders to people I meet on my travels around the US. At this time, after over 10 years, I have probably made over a thousand. Thanks for your video.

Mine has never caught fire. If the pan is so very hot, it may look melted, but the counter isn't burned. I use Red Heart yarn@pem585

I was taught 50 years ago by my mom. Then I was taught in 4-H when I was 8 years old. I proceeded to teach it in 4-H another 20 years. I taught it exactly as the 4-H books showed. But I know there are endless ways to crochet. Thanks for sharing!

HOw do you enlarge that to make a rectangle for a cassorole dish?
@JustDoSomethingHomestead
@JustDoSomethingHomestead 4 ай бұрын
I’m never seen one as a casserole dish but it seems like you’d simply chain more. That’s what determines the size.

How many rows do you crochet doing the 3 sc in the corners 3:20 pm
@JustDoSomethingHomestead
@JustDoSomethingHomestead 5 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what you’re asking. You had a chain of 33. Then you put in 3 single crochet in that 2nd from the end loop. After that it’s one per stitch until the end. Then 3 single crochet in the last stitch. From that point on it’s just one single crochet in each stitch until the rows meet and make a square. You only do the 3 stitches in the first and last stitch one time.

Other than that very first chain to get the size, you don’t chain any more. You just keep going in a circle. Don’t turn.

That is incorrect information. Acrylic yarn starts to melt at 200 degrees. At 300 it burns. They are not recommended for potholders. Instead choose cotton or wool.
