For people who don't have the space or money for an air compressor and spray gun, Spray Max has some 2K (which means 2 part) Clear Coat in a can that works really well, too. A two part clear coat like Mr. Strebel is suggesting is much harder and also hardens much more quickly than a regular gloss coat, which makes it easier to polish than a regular spray on clear coat like you get at a hardware store.

Was typing it out anyway thought I'd share it. Shopping list: - 220, 320, 400, 600, 1000, 2000, 3000 grit wet sanding paper - Wax & grease remover (soy based?) - Tack cloth - Polyurethane top coat clear - 51056 purple polish - Some latex gloves (personally added) Steps: 1. Multiple layers of primer, work way up in grit of sandpaper 2. Light first coat of paint 3. Heavier second coat of paint 4. Light base coat of clear 5. Heavier second coat of clear 6. 1000 grit sanding 7. 2000 grit sanding 8. 3000 grit sanding 9. Polishing with 51056 Do I have that right? No sanding between clear coat steps right? Now only to win my biggest challenge, patience :)

Thanks for the video, very interesting tips ! I've ordered some 3M Purple Polish to test it, it looks better than the automotive polish I find at my local store. There isn't probably any magic formula for this but do you have any tip for sanding/polishing internal corners or concave surfaces, such as the inner side of the parts you show, or an embossed logo for example? I've experimented with a vibration tumbler and fine polishing media (400 to 1000 grit silicon carbide powder) but that didn't give good results.

Excellent!! Thank you Eric. REally great tutorial. Could you make an more indepth one on how to polish up clear plastic parts that have scratches? I restore old computers and they have e.g. on cassette decks clear lids that are scratched, or old LCD covers on the gameboy. Could you show how to refurbish them?

hi, curious why we would use can primer and paint if the HVLP gun was used for clearcoat

Just easier, the primer in cans and I don't have to mix or clean the gun every time. Plus the HVLP is only for clear.

You can probably speed things up by applying the paint with an airbrush, so that you have a nicer base texture to start with. Then sand very carefully, spending less time on corners.
