Super Mario 64 - Skip Endless Stairs Glitch (Backwards Long Jump)

This glitch allows you to skip the endless stairs before acquiring at least 70 stars.
-Go to the endless stairs.
-Backwards long jump (BLJ) up the stairs. To do this exploit, run away from the top of the stairs, long jump, then continue tapping A rapidly and hold the control stick backwards.
-Eventually, you'll speed up and get to the top.

There's a unique science behind this glitch. See, the game registers Mario's running speed, and it warps him to the bottom before he can reach the top. However, when he does what you see in the video, he builds up a lot of backwards velocity--so much, in fact, that the game can't handle it. Mario goes WAY too fast for the game to register it, and it fails to warp him down because he reaches the top too quickly. Pretty neat, huh?

l thought it was because it kept track of how many stairs he climbed and then reset when he climbed enough stairs, and when you jumped backwards, it didn't register backwards motion, allowing you to cheat it.

Fun Fact: The music is called “Shephard’s Scale”. It tricks the brain into it ascending forever. What causes people to panic is the feeling and mood the music is in. The intense suspension makes the brain react like their in trouble.

A fun fact about the music is that it is actually constantly being repeated in the same tone however we are tricked by hearing it in a higher pitch each time. It’s called shepherds tone.

actually its a tone that keeps getting higher and higher and slowly fades out as it gets higher and a new lower tone appears which slowly gets louder and higher pitch and eventually repeats the same cycle as the first one

I will forever love how this trick evolved. It started out on the endless stairs, which brought the minimum number of stars needed to beat the game down to 50. Then someone figured out they could do it on the stairs on the second floor, bringing the minimum amount of stars to 31. Then, the basement BLJ was discovered, (this is harder to do than the other BLJs I mentioned before though) which brought the minimum amount of stars needed to 9, I think, the 8 to unlock Bowser 1, then the 1 star needed in Dire Dire Docks to unlock Bowser 2. Then once the lobby BLJ was found, understood and perfected, the first 1-star run was born. Then someone did the basement BLJ with enough speed on it to completely pass through the Dire Dire Docks loading zone, and THEN, the first 0-star run was born.
