I managed to set it up and fool around in it. It's a very unique concept with a few surprises here and there. All I need is an emulator that can save data.

First the assignment: Luigi’s Octoboofest Landing. I think geometry and polygons might be why Nintendo doesn’t have an official equivalent. These take up a lot more memory. As such what you’d be able to make both on the Switch and stored on Nintendo’s servers in the way Mario Maker does probably is too small and limited to be satisfying to players.

I wished for the possibilty to make 3-dimensional courses since Super Mario Maker 2 came out and I saw that it had the new 3D World game style which is however 2-dimensional like the other game styles. But I still like Super Mario 2 a lot to this day and I keep playing it and making new courses occasionally. Also your sons could also play Super Mario 3D Land on 3DS and Super Mario 3D World which originally came out for Wii U but was ported to Switch under the name "Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury".

My 4yo daughter is currently completely hooked on Mario, so "we" played through Wonder, 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, 3D World and we're finishing Odyssey. The 2D are less appealing, and the most killer feature in the series is a dog who follows you in the desert stage of Odyssey ;) I'll gonna take a look at this hack, looks awesome!

Mario Maker: A Necessity for Gracious Living.

This is soooo good. As a woman with two girls that love Mario to death. This game sounds amazing, not only do games like this provide joy & entertainment for kids, but also teach kids how to create and use their brain a little.

I'm definitely giving this a try and making a level or 2. No idea what I'd actually make though, would need to play around a bit first.

Regarding 2D vs. 3D appealing to kids, I've always loved video games of all kinds, but I was always fascinated by 3D games. Even as far back as the Atari 2600 and games like Tunnel Runner, and Escape From the Mindmaster. I loved the idea that I could explore a virtual world. Even today, when I play a racing game and there's interesting scenery on the side of the road, I always wish I could get out of the car and explore it.

Having a level editor is a big big plus for people who want to learn level design

Nintendo WAS working on something like this for the Mario Artist series on the N64DD. But that didn't exactly go so well.

If I were Nintendo I would certainly consider a 3D Mario Maker. In the early days of gaming, video games were almost exclusively the domain of kids. Young people these days who do play Minecraft certainly would understand how to make stages. Who knows, maybe some of the Xennials who played Mario 64 back in 96' might like such a 3D Mario Maker Game. Regardless, such a development would only benefit Nintendo.

This is a Nintendo game mod and knowing their anti-consumer policies it's just a matter of time until they ask to take down this project. I don't get why is it so difficult for them to accept that there are thousands upon thousands of their fans willing to expand on their games and they just Sease and Desist them, like they can't even let these projects be for free without the makers of these wonderful mods get a cent of remuneration for their work, and I heard this is a "scar", a wound from back in the origins of Mario vs Donkey Kong, when Nintendo got a lawsuit for the similarity of name with King Kong, and that situation seems to get them extra careful with their intellectual properties from that point on. I make mods for Skyrim for that reason because Bethesda knows that giving players the creative freedom to expand on their games is the best way to keep a constant fanbase but since Nintendo is geared towards children mainly, they don' t care, but hopefully they change their policies to be more consumer friendly. BTW Lady Decade, I really enjoy your videos of all kinds of gaming stuff, I'm regularly watching them.
