After Cindy's criticism on "The Super Models", Graeme O'Neil takes a look at Cindy Crawford's 1986 appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and discovered that Cindy and her Apple TV+ series edited, manipulated the segment to fit their skewed narrative.

I feel like she just wanted something "dramatic" from her past to use for content about how hard her life was but this compared to what others went through is nothing, she's there to talk about being a model as it's her job, if she doesn't want to be a public figure regarding her body then maybe don't go on the oprah show for a model segment?

Maybe like, don’t be a model if you don’t want that attention or better yet don’t pose for playboy, as she did in 1988, to further launcher career. Who is truly the one that has objectifying Cindy Crawford? I think the answer is, Cindy Crawford, herself.

Here's the deal that NO ONE usu talks about: Cindy does feel victimized b/c she worked as a high-end escort girl for escort service that offers this in the modeling agencies as a way to propel these girls to major fame. This is how most of that kind of mainstream success works. She was traumatized by the BEHIND THE SCENES INDUSTRY and no one sees this on the FRONTLINES part of the INDUSTRY. But what I can't stand about ppl like Cindy is how she wants to BLAME the PPL ON MAINSTREAM level for the petty small stuff and play this victim role many yrs after the fact - as a way of grabbing attention she no longer gets as she once did. She does this W/OUT telling the FULL, REAL truth about what went on behind the curtain. How convenient! This is her misplaced anger and resentment. If she would come out and admit to the real deal, we could all feel empathy for her and stand w/ her but she doesn't tell us the full real story. This is not only disingenuous but also is very much the 'too late at this point/ boy who cried wolf' story now. It's a kind of virtue signaling that is nauseating at best and highly disconcerting at its worst. I feel sorry for Cindy but she put herself in those shoes and did what was asked of her - both in front of and BEHIND the camera. Her emotional dysregulation is only going to encourage more women to play victims long after the victimization took place. This kind of immature HYPER-REACTIVE behavior is not a healthy mature PROACTIVE way to be by nipping this abuse in the bud WHEN it's happening but they WON'T DO THAT B/C IT WILL make them have to forfeit their huge fame and $$$! They want it both ways - to be famous 'individuals' incomparable to others AND to be coddled as victims who belong to the same victim club at same time! If the abuse is still going on, then no wonder she's finally griping now, but you gotta stop this abuse in the industry if this is how you truly feel. BUT how do you do this? I can tell ya, not by whining about it 30 yrs or more later! You gotta be assertive IN THE MOMENT the abuse is happening. You gotta be proactive and independent but as I say, NO ONE WANTS TO BE INDIE B/C there ain't as much fame and $$ in that!

The interesting thing is the guy next to her is John Casablancas. He was head of Elite Models at the time. This dude was known for sleeping with teenage girls. He's dead now but soooo many models have horrific stories about him and other model agents. I wonder why Cindy hasnt spoken up about this? Because I'll bet shes been asked to do a lot worse then just "stand up" by a talk show host. And why would she feel objectified by Oprah asking her to do it and not when shes on go sees and potential clients ask her to do it? And at least Oprah talked to her like a person. It's a compliment to have Oprah say that about your figure. What's worse is Barbara Walters asking a 16 year old Brooke Shields what her measurements are. The Oprah interview was set in the late 80s and as having been a teen in that area the objectivacation of women was everywhere and it is great that we have grown from that phase in society, but trying to go back in time and get ppl cancelled now - hell EVERYBODY would be cancelled - it is one thing to reference material for educational purposes, but to malign someone by taking it out of context is completely not OK

Ya know the sick IRONY of this is how Cindy is sitting next to John Cassablancas on her show and THAT IS the guy who she should be calling out in this ME TOO attempt she's botching. He is a known pedo and rapist and many girls have filed police reports on him and it's widely known in the industry he is BAD NEWS. He was also best buds w/ other infamous rapist and pedo Jarold Marie - the French founder/ director of Elite Model Mngt who married Linda Evangelista (ooh, the evil plot thickens!). Wild how most ppl still don't know all this and no one on this feed is reporting this. She was working so 'cooperatively' w/ these rapists while calling out Oprah for complimenting her! O is part of the evil system too of/c b/c of how she has hooked up many models and young actresses w/Harvey W. Everyone knows this fact too but again, no one says a word about this here in this comments section - which if Cindy was telling us that, this would be relevant and essential but this is not her complaint. Just b/c you're a young girl looking for your big break doesn't mean you should have to be abused to find it but most of these girls had to do a lot of blow and a lot of blowing to get to the top - as was the case w/ Cindy. So instead of calling out John C, she goes here w/ OW.... or was Cindy trying to be clever and sneak in this cut of her on OW show and show us the pic of JC next to her and hope we read her message btwe the lines? I don't know - it's just super odd that this kind of iconic irony is in this clip!

There’re several other things that I criticize Oprah Winfrey for. This is not one of them. Cindy Crawford is being hypocritically ridiculous for relevance in the moment. Walking down a runway with your breasts showing under a sheer black garment is objectification. It’s this kind of silliness from rich women like Cindy Crawford that diminish real women issues in the world today. 🤦

How interesting it is that she’s taking her issues out on Oprah Winfrey, one of the most famous names in existence. It’s all about Oprah these days, what else can we blame her for now. So many people are just so self-centred. And I really don’t think one of them Oprah. If Cindy Crawford is so concerned about being objectified then why pose for playboy as she did in the 80’s? Who is objectifying Cindy Crawford, but Cindy Crawford herself and now using now Oprah Winfrey to do it for her.

Yes!! So glad you said this Graeme!! I'm sure Cindy felt that way. But holy cow this was 37 years ago! Times were different then. You can't compare the world today and the awareness we have now to 1986! Plus, Cindy was a super model. She was in an industry that objectified women. She put herself in that place. It would be a completely different story if the Oprah today said that. Cindy can speak about not objectifying women today, but she needs to put this Oprah incident behind her. Please, it was like this was like a Harvey Weinstein incident. This story is so "cringe" not Oprah. Who deserves to be held responsible for something that was said 40 years ago??? I applaud the work that Oprah has done to help women become their best? If this really bother Cindy? Then why say it on Apple TV (Oprah draws high ratings). Why not call Oprah personally and speak to her about it?

Just here checking out Cindy’s recollection that Oprah didn’t let her speak and only wanted to look at her body, and then Gayle commenting on Cindy’s comments. I did not get any feeling that Cindy was to be “seen and not heard” on this clip. On the contrary, Oprah asked her many questions about her life in general, and her modeling etcetera. She was not treated as only something to be looked at. Her not speaking much could be attributed to her obvious and understandable timidness at this point in her life- not due to Oprah not giving her a chance to speak. If you watch the whole clip-easily found on KZfaq, there is not maltreatment.

I didn’t see what you saw. Modelling was very different back in the day when she started. I believe that you’re right in saying that she was to be seen and not hurt because she was a print model, however, fashion changed a lot when the supermodel idea became a thing. It wasn’t just about the clothes. It was about the model becoming a celebrity, the models began to have a lot more agency and a lot more power behind the lens and in front of the lens. They became as big as the industry itself. So Cindy was not just a print model in the end, so she can make the distinctions with some nuance. I think that asking a woman to stand up and twirl, regardless of whether she is a model is not something that we see that often anymore on a talk show. You could argue that an actor is worthy of being seen in the same way a model is, and that we could ask them to stand up and twirl around and show their body off to us because they use their body for their work too and they appear on many ads too including for fashion. However, I would have to disagree with you and say that I don’t think that would happen now, and I also believe that that was the distinction she was making. The things that were asked of them at that time are not things that would fly now. Cindy Crawford has no beef with Oprah. In fact, she’s appeared on the show many times afterwards, but she recognises that those moments were of a time in a place, and the climate now is a lot more different than in the 80s and those things wouldn’t happen now.

Yeah, sure but she didn't SAY IT this way that you're suggesting she meant it. She is playing a game about how the past should be what it is today and this 'presentism' mentality is very immature. Instead of saying, 'this is how it was then and if we were alive back in 1942, we would have done what they did then" which is realistic but today, virtue signalers want to say 'we are so much better than the generations b4 us", blah blah...yes we are but come on, you can't judge the past w/ views of today. That is not how it works. We all evolve according to our times and what is available to us and what isn't. You can't hold someone guilty of things they didn't know better of. Now, if this behavior was being conducted today, she'd have a valid complaint but even if so, it's still not a MAJOR gripe. This is a firs-world gripe! Let me tell you what the REAL ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT - the evil pedo/ rapist John Cassablancas sitting next to her on that show. Cindy could have called him out but of/c she didn't. And while many girls have come forward (police records can be found if you do the research) over the yrs to prove he was this predator, pls don't come back w/ this 'oh she may not have known that'....BS! She was signed to the top agency and John C was w/ her more times than on this OW show! And pls don't retort w/ 'She wasn't hit on by him maybe'.... really?? Pls don't be naive. She prob went along to get along b/c what CC also conveniently won't tell us is how she worked as an escort as many of the top models do to get fame and $$. This is how the game is played but most ppl have cog diss.
@whoopdedoo5271
@whoopdedoo5271 10 ай бұрын
You seem to be inside Cindy Crawford's mind LOL No one is judging the past but things just are different to the way they were back then. It's that simple. A lot of what you say in the first paragraph is relative. I think we live in a culture where consent is an issue. At a go see tell someone to twirl, whatever, but I think it's tacky - in today's standards - to treat anyone as if they are meant to do anything for you or your enjoyment or expectation. It's a super entitled attitude to say 'you-do-(insert job)-so-shut-up-and-give-me-what-I-want. I think you're right to mention Casablancas. I don't disagree with you on that. That part was dark and a whole other documentary worth making. It was messed up. I can't comment on the last conspiracy theory. Wether you're right or wrong. It's irrelevant. We know about Casabalanca's behaviour but I don't have any evidence of CC being an escort and if she was I wouldn't judge her for it. I won't assume either. I have a different way of looking at the world and just because it doesn't align with yours doesn't mean it's cog dissonance or any other trigger words you may want to shoot my way. I enjoyed the documentary and found it fascinating.@@kaitlynkarol4600

Also - it's not about who's well off financially you fool. It's about the principle of the matter! When shallow celebs push agendas and ideas that don't fit reality, it can be devastating for the ones out here who are easily influenced and believe this nonsense (esp young kids) and use it to push their own ignorance. The world is ignorant enough as it is and the insightful ones need to stand up and push back against all the evil, immaturity and stupidity that is constantly thrown our way. Plus - some ppl still want to work past their retirement age b/c it may bring them joy & fulfillment instead of sitting around doing nothing or making dumb comments online or pursuing unhealthy habits & vices, so shut up your rattle trap of a keyboard warrior mouth...mouthy fingers on keyboards are like being stuck in glue as you get yourself in sticky wording that makes no sense at all. It's worse than the actual mouth in RL when these comments appear all the time online. Just pls grow up little clueless child! So funny, Graeme! SO perceptive! You have a new fan -- and subscriber!! Cindy's such a hypocrite -- because (you may know this) less than two years later, she was posing totally nude on a beach in Hawaii ...by choice ... for "Playboy!!" Seriously! Against the advice of her Elite agency, no less!! She wanted to do it ... THAT didn't make her feel like "chattle." However, standing up in front of an audience of ladies while wearing a dress and black opaque tights made her feel objectified? Are. You. Kidding. Me. (Maybe there weren't enough leering men for her?) I love how you put the whole interview in context -- about why Oprah made her stand up because the audience didn't see her walk in. And how you pointed out that Oprah actually asked Cindy many questions, not only letting her talk, but also politely enduring her inane, conceited responses. Also funny how you mention the stupidity of not knowing exactly why she's been hired as a model. lol!!! To sell stuff!! Speaking of selling stuff, I have a friend who worked at NASA for 20 years -- and who also has a masters degree -- and she couldn't figure out how to unsubscribe from Cindy's skincare line!! lol!!! She mailed me the extra products, so that was good b/c I was broke at the time. But I always wondered ... does Cindy Crawford have an evil heart for making it so hard to unsubscribe from her product line? Well ... they say you're born with the face God gave you, right? And you end up with the one you deserve!! She's a classic example of that!! lol!! btw they've been such good friends all these years, Cindy went to Oprah's 69th birthday party. Bet she won't be going to her 70th!! lol!! Thanks for such a perceptive, funny and brave video! I declare #OpenSeasonOnOprahIsOver

She just looked back as an older woman, reflecting on the past. Everyone does that. Nothing bad is happening. They are actually friends. Don't you ever have moments, as an older person, looking back and thinking "wow, I would never say/do that now!"? I know I do. Its part of developing as a person.
