The logistics bit reminds me a lot of the early settlers games where it was more about avoiding network issues as it was about combat

Just watching I can see a few "rules" you might want to implement when playing, one would be that never put storage off a node, as then you lose the ability to have input and output at the same time, same with production building that needs resources, nodes are very useful spots, make use of the fact you can have up to 4 "cars" accessing it at once, it's also no reason to make a bypass that's more nodes than the normal path, as they take the path of least nodes

The logistics-system takes inspiration from "the settlers (II)". Thus the name . I can recommend these rather old games aswell!

I played The Settlers and Settlers 2 and it was nothing like this, it was more of an RTS game. Is there a completely different game also called The Settlers? This looks more like The Colonists to me
@MrZwergdaniel
@MrZwergdaniel 9 ай бұрын
@@TitoRigatoni It may be a different title by translation, but the settlers 1+2 had road building, one person per road and ressources being transported the same way. The Settlers 3+4 ditched the roads and used a more organic approach to logistics, as people just roamed and every person without a job could carry things. These parts are rather a RTS. (These games were released by Bluebyte in 1993 and 1996, which was later bought by Ubisoft if I remember correctly. Also such a shame what they did with the series)

@@TitoRigatoni Not a different game, just marketing confusion. The games you played were part of the Settlers series, but not the first or second game; most likely 5th and 6th, by which point the series was completely taken over by Ubisoft and no longer resembling anything about the first two games.

It's literally minimalistic The Settlers, The Settlers II and it's remakes! Can compare to the Colonists, but with slightly different mechanics.

People keep mentioning The Settlers, but this doesn't look anything like The Settlers game I've played (the one that's on Steam). That game is more of a colony builder / RTS game, there's no logistics element to it at all.
@MrZwergdaniel

@@TitoRigatoni Hey, just saw this comment aswell and looked which settlers parts are on steam. It seems you either mean "Heritage of Kings" (5), "Rise of an Empire" (6) or straight up settlers 7. All these games were designed after the main director for the first and third game left, which split up the already small settlers community. If you dont mind old graphics and prefer a rather laid back RTS approach with a focus on logistic/resource chains I can highly reccommend the first 4 parts. They are on GOG and the Ubisoft Launcher. Id reccomend the GOG version, as the ubisoft anniversary edition isnt any better. Get the Community HD Patches aswell and youre all set. For the Second part there are also remastered editions, which are fine but lack the old settlers flair in my opinion.

i know you can make a game with just 'random automata' that just shows the user this road is being used and look at all the sims. And that's fine, but we've been doing that for years now. I mean, Sim City is good at simulating sims getting to work but when it comes to warehouses and industrial flows, they really put that on the wayside didn't they? I want to see more on 'cellular automata', like the way Cities Skylines did. It's really cool you know? Other than it may take 10 minutes to load the map. But this is why these games come out right?

Hi there, just stumbled across your channel and have already subscribed. Do you keep a list somewhere of games you've played and which ones you really really loved? I follow a lot of content creators who create content similar to your (just in different niches) and almost none of them do wrap ups where they talk about their top 5 favourites from the last year or whatever. As a newer watcher it's really hard for me to go back and devour all your content, so a video like that would be amazing to me. Party Elite does something like that, and another guy I watch has a spreadsheet on his discord, but that's about it.

Cool, but imo settlers is the only game that made this simple mechanic entertaining. A big feat considering that graph theory is a very dull subject. But then again I play factorio, so I'm not really the target audience. LOL. I would personally find this more interesting if buildings had different supply and demand nodes, so you could separate networks somewhat. But probably too complex.

This is literally The Settlers, a game from _1993_ . The logistics are completely different. The distinct feature of the Settlers series and the logistics style is the roads that each have their assigned transporter going back and forth. The Colonists (2018) uses the same system (I suspect Ubisoft's destruction of the Settlers series had a lot to do with that). The main challenge is getting stuff to where it needs to go (there was combat in The Settlers, but not as an RTS - it was all about your economy supplying your soldiers to overwhelm your enemies). Masterplan Tycoon was just one of the many games that took all these established concepts and replaced complex logistics with a node-based system - the creator explicitly mentions The Settlers 2 and the Unity Shader Graph editor as direct inspirations, in fact :) It sits somewhere in the overlap of idle games and logistic games. Of course, if you look at idle games in general, there's... a lot of them. Experimenting with a lot of different approaches, levels of idleness, and the visual representation. The important thing is that Masterplan tycoon doesn't really have any logistical challenges. Sure, you move nodes and edges around on the map, but it doesn't really mean anything - longer edges do not have any real disadvantages, edges can cross willy-nilly... You're just connecting inputs and outputs. Heck, it's less complex than most idle games :D It goes beyond "minimalist", IMO... In this game, space matters. Distances matter. Road design matters. It's far more similar to games like Factory Town or even Factorio, but the basic logistic system based on The Settlers instead of free walkers or belts. The only thing in which it is similar to Masterplan Tycoon in particular is the graphical style... which is not really all that distinct in the first place (and seems like a refinement of Blueprint Tycoon from 2016; really, it's a lot like an overly minimalist Blueprint Tycoon). In general, you should be wary of jumping on the idea that one modern game copied another modern game. There's not a lot of new ideas floating around, especially in the relative mainstream of gaming. There's some iteration on old ideas, and a huge amount of just outright doing the same thing we had 20 years ago. And especially in the logistics and management games, you'll find many European (especially Central European) games that "did just that".
