Akira Toriyama initially wanted Super Saiyan's multiplier to be x10, not x50 of their base form. However, Akira Toriyama decided to push Kaioken to x20 of user's base form, meaning Super Saiyan's multiplier needed to be stronger than Kaioken x20. Toriyama should've kept Kaioken to x4 since Kaioken should drain the user's energy faster depending the level of Kaioken. If he done that, then Super Saiyan would've been at x10.

Can't blame Toriyama. He thought he'd be done with the series after Frieza but the fans and publishers kept demanding more. Bigger numbers, bigger explosions, bigger transformations. At the time there was no One Piece to show him how to make villians threatening without having to keep escalating the hero's powers to the point of absurdity. DBZ is the grandfather of all shonen. It fumbled its story so others could write better

I think a better way to drive home how insane Super Sayain is to bring in real numbers. Like for example take an average person like me who can run 7 mph and lift 125 overhead for a rep. Multiply that by 50. They would run faster than the fastest cars on Earth and lift mid sized cars over their head with little effort.

The hype was generated before we saw the transformation the first time and the hype went on through the show. And the emotional meaning behind it turns it into and unforgettable part of anime history.

To give an example of how busted Super Saiyan is, if we take an average human which is probably around a power level of 4, the Super Saiyan form, they INSTANTLY become a moon-buster. Amped Roshi with a power level of 180 destroyed the moon. Someone with a level of 200 should definitely be able to replicate this feat.

I think a major problem was that Frieza was simply WAY more powerful than he needed to be! Frieza's FIRST form has a power level over 500k! Which is already over 5x stronger than the next most powerful bad guy Capt. Ginyu! Then Frieza goes second form with a monstrous power level of over 1million! Which is WAAY bigger than anything we've ever seen at this point. But a power level over 1million feels appropriate for the emperor of the universe. THEN Friezas 3rd form not only doubles but TRIPLES, meaning even someone TWICE as strong as 2nd form Frieza is now NO match for 3rd form Frieza (Which is exactly what we see with Piccolo) B U T THEN Frieza completely breaks power scalling. His full power final form isn't TWICE as powerful, or even TEN TIMES as powerful, he jumps ALL the way to 120million!! We just completely skip over 10m through 100m and now power levels are in the HUNDRED MILLIONS over ONE transformation! That's not even to mention both Frieza and ssj Goku being stated to be considerably more powerful just a few episodes later at the Future Trunks saga. I know Toriyama didn't care for power scalling. And it was a concept more popular by the fans and extra material. But I would like to see a more conservatively power scalled Frieza and android saga that slowly works through the millions. Frieza had no business being at 120 million when 12million would have been way more than enough. (I understand Kaioken throws a wrench into things too)

Nah, super saiyan isn’t broken. It’s the legendary transformation, it needs to be epic. This unbelievable super warrior that no one could even begin to fathom, times 50 is perfect for that. The problem is the show kept going, and to keep pace other fighters were given lazy power ups. Especially in super.

Completely agree. A 50x multiplier without excessive stamina withdrawal completely invalidates the kaioken. Goku only managed a x20 for a few seconds, which in all honesty should've ruptured his organs or something. I love that about the kk. The more you push yourself, the worse your body gets. There's a tradeoff, and all good transformations have one. Look at the oozaru. You get a x10 boost, but at the cost of your control. Goku rampages about as a wild monster. It's a do or die situation, and you hope your friends don't get hurt.

There is a theory that the super saiyan transformations with the time was being asimilated by the body of the users, making the base form more powerful but making the multiplier less. Similar at how the body accustoms to the excersice or a medicine. The super saiyan was so overuse that the body literaly absorbed the power.

After battle all get revived and for the earthlings this means the following (training at king kai planet is worth thousands of earth years like stated by kaio in the manga) Chiatzu 5.000 Yamcha 8.000 Krillin 9.000 Tien 10.000 Earthlings develop with kaio the kaioken with a max of 2x multiplier (seems fair godly technique vs legendary ssj and mystic fusion) Vegeta 10.000 (25.000 ssj) Goku 10.000 (25.000 ssj) Gohan 8.000 Piccolo 20.000 so even after they defeated the allmighty lord frieza he still is on top in terms of powerlevel and following antagonists may be stronger than the Z-Gang but not stronger than frieza. you could bring him back later in the series as mechafrieza, but I dont see the point when we already get cell. gero follows to namek though and gets some frieza DNA, thats the whole reason cell will be strong. but not as strong as frieza himself. its still just a human scientest and i think its pretty unbelievable that gero in this cave is more capable then he ultra rich frieza with the best scientists in the galaxy.. the androids will be amalgamations of the different frieza forms combined with human DNA but since gero was able to put the perfect form in cell directly he has to get DNA from form 1, 2 (he himself is still alienlie like form 3) to get perfect (final form)

Hey, as always great analysis! I know every battle power level after namek is inferred, but what would be reasonable base form goku and vegeta power levels in the cell and buu sagas? I always thought even saiyans could only go so far in base form, but as you mention it´s impossible for their base forms not to have multiplied in the android saga

I think SS could have been handled better if it was treated more like a Kaoken x2 or x3 but without so many consequences. Like being able to maintain it constantly without your heart exploding.

I'd say Grade 4 SSJ is likely a 55 to 65 times multiplier because with the decreased strain on the body and the increase in stamina, this makes the form far more efficient, allowing the power increase to naturally creap up a few extra percent. Because the strain on the body, the amount of stamina needed to withstand that strain, and the increase in power, they each have a relativistic effect on the other two. So a positive increase or a negative decrease in any one or more of them, will have a similar effect on the others. I'm sure someone with a much greater grasp on mathematics could easily figure out an equation that would make what I just insinuated to make greater sense.

Goku turned SSJ2 for a few seconds against Yakon, that is what over loaded and why Yakon got destroyed.

Ozaru should have been 5x and the power levels should have been lower. It just kept going up too drastically, starting from Nappa at 4k to Vegeta at 15k/18k.

The 50x multiplier would’ve been fine if they didn’t give the saiyans the ability to access it at will almost immediately after achieving it. They should’ve kept the form as a power they could only tap into under the most dire of circumstances for a while longer, having it take years of both physical and mental training before reaching the point of accessing the transformation at will. This would’ve made it so not every single new villain absolutely has to be even stronger than the last one and they could still be a legitimate threat because Goku or whoever else can’t just turn on super saiyan whenever they feel like it.

Lets give Krillin The Guyver Unit. The Guyver Unit increase the human host's strength by 100x. That's the same as Super Saiyan 2 multiplier. The Gigantic form is 24x stronger than the regulate form. Which means 2400x base. That's higher than Super Saiyan 3 multiplier. I don't know what the Gigantic Exceed multiplier is. Sad thing is, the weakness of the Control Metal will screw him over. That's the one thing I don't like about The Guyver Unit. Also, the fact that it rapes the host every time they uses it, I don't like that also. Base on what I understand, The Guyver Unit is only powerful when used by a human. So the other race wont get that boost when they use it. Since Zoanoaid, modified humans, can also get that boost, I think it should work for Gohan and the Human Androids as well, given that they have Human DNA. But why would Gohan need it? He has stronger forms. Now 17 on the other hand, being as powerful as Suepr Saiyan Blue Goku, he might be stronger than UI Goku in the Guyver Gigantic From. Sadly, there's the Control Metal issue. Ah., I just remembered. Guyot planned to use The Guyver to boost his Zoalord form. Which means, The Guyver will boost Gohan's transformed state and not his base. Whoa, Gohan's Beast From x 2400. Sadly again. There's the Control Metal issue.

Thought I'd share something funny about power levels and kili. I forgot where i read it, but i think one post claimed frieza first form would be stronger than ssj goku (namk saga) according to kili conversions. Also isn't frieza's final form 100% full power 120 million according to diazenshuu 7? Because it also lists frieza final form 50% at 60 million, implying his final form is barely over one million even though his second form is over 1 million. Not to mention his third form changes the dynamic of the fight by making him much stronger than his second form, so clearly the numbers dont make sense. As tfs vegeta put it: "power levels are bulls**t."

Goku vs Frieza was where the power levels took off past making sense. Once the power levels started to jump by the tens of millions, it just didn’t mean anything anymore besides fandom lore. I wish the numbers were kept user friendly until much later in the show.

Super Saiyan was meant to be a legendary form from legend. A Super Saiyan was believed to be invincible. I don't think originally anything was supposed to come after Super Saiyan. It's supposed to turn you into a God. A really huge multipler makes sense for it lore wise.

If i read the numbers right, frieza at half of his full power was 20x goku's base form. I feel kinda dumb not knowing how to factor kaio ken into it, since the anime shows goku toggling it to be efficient.

I understand your issue with this. Originally, i thought the super saiyan form might multiply the max of the baseform by 3 or 5 times maximum. While it was cool to see Goku, Trunks and Vegeta turning into Super Saiyans, there was definitely the inflation of the importance and effect of super saiyan transformation. It was like as if they could not win a battle anymore without transformation. Then Gohan, Kid Trunks and goten seemingly transformed so easily into one While the other 3 first had to struggle through real mental pain. Even more ridiculous is the transformation of Cabba, Caulifa and Kale.... It's like every saiyan who has a certain potential can easily become one 🤨😑

Goku in base form in early DB Super was still nowhere near as strong as Frieza max power from Nakek (120,000,000). Beerus states it when meeting Goku for the very first time in King Kai planet. Now, that same Goku in SSj1 it's a whole different story.

There is a difference between 50x your own power and someone else’s. It seems you’re mixing the concepts a bit. You example being x stronger than Freza being so op and it is but than you continue talking about self x, if I 50x myself I may still be less than 2x monster but 2x monster could be 100000x myself.

We don't actually know how the "kili" scale works. It's likely a logarithmic scale, and not linear. Using it with the power levels doesn't really make sense.

The power levels never really made sense, Kaioken kinda broke it. They should have kept the 3x one Goku used against Vegeta as pretty much the peak of power a non- super saiyan could achieve. When I say power levels do not make sense a prime example is Frieza in his final form, he claims to be using 1% of his total power, his max being 120 million. Meaning the 1% he is using would be 1.2 million. It makes zero sense, Piccolo and Vegeta could have easily cleared him if they wanted to. And Goku's base was 3 million. Pretty much nothing post 2nd form Frieza makes ANY sense.

FPSS was always nonsense. SS healing and boosting Gokek's base power upon unlock was random. The non-canon multiplier from magz is laughable (contradicted by canon and logic). Solve for strain so you get way more power? Goofy. Rather, AT didn't want to use KK anymore, so he just let 'our hero' have it built-in. How convenient. Grades were a cute concept. Making FPSS not just solve the strain and drain suddenly made-up as a thing, but for giant gains? Nah. "SS3" was deserved after this strawman made Gokek look like he knew what he was doing (undeserved).

Dragon Ball is full of badly written constant asspulls, infinite plot armor and bad writing everywhere. Dragon Ball has the most toxic fandom of all time. One by Feats Goku has been hurt by bullets and tagged by regular human thugs Super Saiyan Blue Goku has been nearly killed by a regular laser Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta killed by Planet Explosion Goku and Vegeta have been easily knocked out by a regular stun gun Krillin held his own against Super Saiyan Blue Goku in a beam struggle and Android 18 could knock away both of their attacks Krillin later gets defeated by an Android Bee called Hachimaru in DBS Chapter 91. Hachimaru was heavily damaged by Krillin using a standard police gun to shoot the Android Bee down. Then Hachimaru proceeded to defeat Krillin afterwards. Goku needs a specialized suit to go to the center of the Earth. Because the heat is too much for his body. Beerus even says that Bulma sent Goku on a very dangerous mission for him. In Dragon Ball Super Episode 68. Goku needed a specialized suit from Bulma to survive the high temperatures in the core of the Earth. Even Beerus says that the core of the Earth is a dangerous place for Goku. Even Goku says that he would die if he went into the Core of Earth. Two Dragon Ball Inconsistencies Three its stated by Android 16 that a nuclear bomb is enough to kill Cell. Cell was clearly afraid of the Nuclear Bomb. So was Goku. Beerus & Goku's fight 1. Old kai is far too unreliable. Old Kai debunks himself when he says the shockwaves are getting stronger as they travel further Yet the shockwaves reached the sacred world of the kais yet that world was fine. The sacred world of the kais is the furthest point and its outside the seventh universe. Old Kai also wasn't even sure himself if it was capable of destroying the universe. Old kai is the same person who thought kid buu was stronger than Beerus Old Kai also thought that Beerus was scared of his power so he sealed him away. Implying Beerus is weaker than him. 2. Narrator. The narrator is not omniscient like many claim to be. He says that Beerus went full power during his first battle with Goku He has even been wrong in the past by saying how Saiyan Saga Nappa is boundless And then the Narrator claims that Namek Saga Frieza is capable of destroying the universe Four Its completely out of character for Goku to destroy the Sun. One because he is a morally good guy. Two He wouldn't destroy the source of Superman's power because Goku loves a challenge. This is the same guy who gave Cell a senzu bean for the sake of a fair battle against his own son. Super Saiyan 2 is pretty much an asspull. There was no real foreshadowing, implication or mention of a new transformation. Yes there were mentions of improving the Super Saiyan Transformation. But Super Vegeta is exactly just that. An improvement of the original SSJ1 that Goku used on Namek. Goku saying Gohan is stronger than him doesn't mean that a new transformation has been foreshadowed or implied. And no, Super Saiyan 2 Gohan is not an improved version or an evolution of Super Saiyan Grade 2 Trunks. Super Saiyan 2 Gohan severely damaged Cell with one punch while Super Saiyan Grade 2 Trunks was unable to damage Cell even when his strongest attacks landed. Mystic was definitely an asspull. Guru already unlocked Gohan's hidden potential in the Namek Arc. Mystic Gohan made no sense. Super Saiyan 3. The Transformation Goku supposedly trained for in other world. But Goku conveniently felt no need to mention learning a new transformation in other world when he first arrives on Earth despite being the kind of person to brag about his fighting achievements nor did he use this powerful transformation against Majin Vegeta. Despite the entire world being at stake and Goku having no motivation to fight Vegeta at all. Then there is Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta becoming stronger than Super Saiyan 3 Goku through the power of love & friendship because Beerus smacked Bulma. Vegeta literally pulled Super Saiyan Blue Evolution out of his ass. When there is zero foreshadowing or hints that such a transformation was even possible and it was never mentioned beforehand. And no its not like Super Saiyan Grade 2. One we actually saw the Saiyans training for Super Saiyan Grade 2. Meanwhile we never saw Vegeta train Super Saiyan Blue Evolution at all. Super Saiyan Grade 2 wasn’t even much of a transformation. Super Saiyan Grade 2 was the equivalent of bulking up your muscle mass to achieve a temporary boost in Physical Strength but severely reducing your speed & agility. Meanwhile Super Saiyan Blue Evolution is a massive power boost & new transformation out of nowhere with no downsides & no training or effort required for it to work. Then there is the Super Saiyan Rage asspull. Trunks literally gets a massive power boost out of nowhere to defeat Zamssu by essentially throwing a temper tantrum. The Beast Gohan & Orange Piccolo Asspulls. Piccolo getting his potential unlocked through Dragon Balls is lazy writing. But when Gamma 2 clearly defeats Piccolo even after Piccolo has his Full Potential unlocked. Piccolo gets another Transformation out of nowhere, “Orange Piccolo”. Meanwhile Gohan sees Piccolo getting beaten up by Cell Max then pulls another Transformation out of his ass by throwing another temper tantrum. No foreshadowing or set up beforehand. The Ultra Instinct Transformation was an asspull. No real foreshadowing or set up for the transformation. Ultra Instinct was set up as a frame of mind that you have to learn and develop over time. It was never implied, foreshadowed or stated to be a new type of transformation. Yes Ultra Instinct is mentioned before the Tournament of Power. But as shown from Beerus using it during the battle between the Gods of Destruction. It was implied to be a special state of mind. A type of spiritual enlightenment. Instead "Ultra Instinct" is just an overglorified "Super Saiyan White" that Goku pulls out of his ass at the last minute. This isn't Goku developing a new state of mind through enlightenment or changing the way he fights or learning more about controlling his ki & instincts. This is Goku pulling a new Super Saiyan Transformation out of his ass when he is about to lose to Jiren. The Ultra Ego Asspull that was never foreshadowed or set up whatsoever. Then there is True Ultra Instinct. Another garbage asspull out of nowhere which further contradicts how Ultra Instinct was previously established to work. Using the Daizenshuu in arguments. Dragon Ball Often on WWW when arguing DB, people will bring up the Daizenshuu to source their arguments. The Daizenshuu is often mistaken for being written by Toriyama himself. The Daizenshuu was written by Watanabe Akinori. Toriyama's involvement with the Daizenshuu was mainly just interviews and snippets of information. Toriyama did say he approved of the Daizenshuu , but that's mostly just work appreciation. The problem I have with the Daizenshuu is that it contradicts itself and the manga. Some examples: 50% Freeza is said to have a PL of 60,000,000 in the Daizenshuu Freeza 50%: 60 million While base Goku is said to have 3,000,000. Versus Freeza: 3 million A KKX20 would be 60,000,000 yet Freeza blocked Goku's kamehameha with one hand. Daizenshuu 4 says that Kid Boo uses IT.

Eh… sure. But Super Saiyan isn’t the root of this problem. The problem is a common one that exists in a lot of similar ongoing stories. For one of the most extreme examples look at Superman. Went from faster than a speeding bullet (so, faster than Mach 3 if you high ball it) to faster than time itself (Superman 1 million’s top speed is absolutely absurd), more powerful to a locomotive to multiversal levels of power (again, Superman 1 million is absurd), able to leap tall buildings in a single bound to multiversal travel, time travel, etc.. Same thing that’s happened to Superman and those around him happened to Goku and those around him… Hero gains strength enough to overcome a powerful enemy they had a struggle fest with earlier. Now hero is stronger… but the plot demands to have stakes so next enemy is a struggle fest for them to overcome and as the cycle repeats their strength increases at an exponential rate. Jackie Chun molly wopped Goku without going all out (wonder what happened to that guy…), Goku fights a red shirt army, general blue whoops his ass, he gets stronger… then we see mercenary Tao take out blue with zero effort and proceed to whoop Goku’s ass, Goku gets stronger and whoops Tao’s ass. Then Tien is evenly matched against a Goku who got stronger. Then tambourine, Yajirobe, King piccolo, Piccolo jr. etc… they are progressively stronger than the previous opponent the hero (Goku) has faced and he has to keep getting stronger. Redditz isn’t much different than King piccolo in terms of being stronger than the previous fight. He’s definitely more powerful in comparison to the previous fight than King Piccolo was. Vegeta isn’t nearly as much of a jump as Raditz was. Freeza is more or less just new Vegeta while SSj is more or less just new Kaio Ken. And this cycle keeps on repeating to the point that Goku is reaching Superman levels of absurdity (he’s not there and Superman would curb stomp him, this is the difference between a multiversal level being and one who’s not even the strongest in their own universe). With Superman it’s like he fight giant robots then eventually he fight aliens and shit. Then they gave him a weakness which he overcomes in a lot of continuities and then he’s fighting space bikers who are planet busters and galactic warlords and beings who exist in a higher plane of reality than he does and time lords n shit and getting exponentially more powerful. Same things going on in dragon ball really. And because Superman hangs out with a bunch of scrubs who’s help he really doesn’t need they end up getting power ups cause of the plot as well. So you have Batman fighting beings who exist in a higher plane of reality than him… and this is how stories that involve people punching each other and increasingly getting stronger go. I’m sure if Ippo went on long enough he’d end up boxing god or some shit.

Power scaling and battle power in dragon ball is a mess and a complete joke and should never be taken seriously. First off the scale is totally fucked, you need to use scientific notation just to reasonably talk about any character past the cell arc. Second characters could destroy celestial bodies as kids with hundreds maybe a couple thousand power level. By the cell arc and the introduction of SSJ grades and SSJ2 regular ki blasts should be destroying the planet instantly and by the time DB super came around just them walking around should crack the planet. We wont even talk about how it makes no sense a character thousands of times stronger than lets say Buu who was ripping space and time apart he was powerful doesnt deatroy the universe with an attack like lets say the final flash. It is a horribly conceived mechanic and should be totally disregarded as non sense since it cant follow its own rules

Toriyama giving SS a *50 amp hurt the show in the long run , it make power level ridiculous
