Today we showed how to do a super easy brake line and clutch line tuck on an S13. This method is applicable to a lot of different cars that have the brake lines or clutch lines running along the firewall. Such as S14's, S15's, Miata's, Skylines etc.

ahh so youve only done this for a youtube video? yes handbending like this can kink lines. i have had it happen. Brake lines contacting eachother can cause premature wear due to vibration. and yes that has also happened :) and i have probably done more brake lines than you and your buddy who "does this all the time" not really a great video to be showing around. kinkin the brake lines and not noticing is a shit show. i am however a fan of your regular content.

Make new lines! Use a pair of brake bending pliers and do it properly. Also If you're bending new lines you may as well upgrade/replace your fuel lines while you're at it, since your going to be making more power at some point anyways. Everything else on your car is super well done it's silly to half ass this one thing.

Brake lines are pretty resilient. When Shaved my bay I made all new lines, But ran out of line a few inches short on my last one. Not being able to go to the store and get more, I just took the factory brake line for the one that i was working on, bent all the bends out so it was straight, and then re-bent it to the shape i needed. Yours will be fine lol

Hence the thick braided wrap. All the OEM clips holding them in place are usually broken after 25 years anyway, so you're better off doing this.
@MustangManV8
@MustangManV8 7 жыл бұрын
I was discussing having all the lines together inside the wrap. They will vibrate inside there and rub, especially doing motorsports. I have seen some crazy stuff happen from lines being to close and vibrating holes into the line.
@nikita240s13
@nikita240s13 7 жыл бұрын
I'll take that into consideration. I've had mine done like that for 2 years, but I'll pull the wrap off and inspect. I reckon I could just individually wrap each line in electrical tape to prevent this.
@MustangManV8

When you kink the lines you are changing the diameter of the brake lines, it can result in brake problems, any car mechanic just cringed when he twisted the lines like that. just put a meter in the brake caliper bleed valve and check if you have equal pressure in each axel, and other shit you can do to see if you Fuckd up something.

dude, no problem, but i always liked to run in car with good brakes and good tires first of all, and i just think it is a shame to do a build so nice and end up halfassing in such a simple thing, but anyways, just an opnion.

good, this is the kind of reaction i was hoping for, instead of starting a match in namecalling. it's true that if you're gonna do a build legit you shouldn't do this but it's his car so it's whatever. i just liked to see how he does it, gets me thinking for my own custom work in that area.

Looks good, but having the brake lines contacting each other is a big no no. They will vibrate together while driving and could wear holes into them. Why do you think brake lines are always clipped in plastic clips to hold them in place? It's all to prevent them rubbing on anything that could damage them.

This is not up to your usual well thought out standard. As others have said brake lines should not be allowed to rub against one another but also you shouldn't put zip ties on brake lines as the toughness of the nylon means they will also wear through the metal eventually.

Think it looks a little silly with the clutch line noticeably bent from its original position and angling overt the brake booster but a stainless braided clutch line such as the one ive got would resolve that. (maybe)

Seems like you've gone to great lengths with this car. Why not bend new lines and run them where you have them or through the wiper arms channel? super easy to link your lines that way or introduce a leak or a weak point ready to fail down the road.

Much easier way to tuck lines for a 240 build is just to convert to all stainless lines from the master all the way down to the calipers. Ive been doing it for years and it's way easier to work with, and looks so much nicer without having to worry about if your brakes will work again after you do this. Not sure if they still do but a guy used to offer a full kit on ebay about 8 years ago.

Yeah. So what happened was the car needed to be rushed a lot of the times to be done for certain events. Which meant spending almost every single hour of free time building the car and just recording footage. Leaving me with no time to edit the footage. So now the car is done and there's just a stack of footage from tons and tons of weeks of work that has now piled up. Slowly but surely going through the footage and putting out videos to bridge the gaps in the build. Thanks :)
