I don't know why people keep blaming the huge Fire Emblem cast on SAKURAI; it's NINTENDO who's saying to add them to the roster. Sakurai UNDERSTANDS that Smash fans're BURT OUT on swordfighters, ESPECIALLY from Fire Emblem; so when NINTENDO told him to put Byleth in Smash, Sakurai went OUTTA HIS WAY to make SURE Byleth played VERY DIFFERENTLY from all the other Fire Emblem characters by making him/her use an axe and spear too. It's SAD to see Sakurai getting the flack for NINTENDO'S decision to put all the Fire Emblem characters in Smash, AND that his efforts to make Byleth more appreciated by having him/her play so differently from the rest were in VAIN.

I'd say the same for the one about all of the FE characters getting into smash. Honestly, the people that say that they're all the same are to be ignored. Yes, most of them rely on fundamentals, but how does that make them run of the mill? Plus, it brought a lot of smash fans into the franchise. It's a good reason to like the characters that Sakurai brought in. Persona, FE Dragon Quest, and a few fighting games in between would have had fewer people to play the game had people not seen them in smash before

@@Crevasse I know. But most of the fire emblem reps are nearly identical. Including echoes, let's see how many are similar. Marth/Lucina and roy/chrom. That's half their reps. The mario characters that are similar are: peach/Daisy and (a little bit of a stretch) mario/Dr mario. That number may be the same, but it's a stretch for both marios, and Daisy was added to introduce us to echoes. Pokémon has no 2 reps that are similar.

Yes, except nobody cares about the amount of Mario and Pokémon characters because they're all fairly different from each other in terms of gameplay and physical appearances, especially the Pokémons. A lot of Fire Emblem characters feel like their designs and gameplay have too much similarities to propely stand out from each other. I feel like people wouldn't complain as much if we had more characters like Robin who has a unique appearance and isn't yet another Fire Emblem sword fighter.

@@Acacius1992 I don't mind the Addition of new Swordfighters, because honestly..... Swordfighters are the most common characters in video games. You really can't blame them for putting more swordfighters into Smash Ultimate when they literally have 10% of all other weapon types to work with.

@@magicdreemurr3771 Me neither. Infact my wanted character was always Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia. The glareing problem of Byleth is simply as well obvious. The Timing. They realy got the absolut worst timing you could give them. They realy should had revealed them earlier or later. I dont say the hate was deserved but after such build up hype a character from a series that got pushed the last games already strongly (And even had a rather controversial character too with Corrin, who even most FE fans weren't happy about from what i have seen) it was kind of a bad move. If that stupid controversy didn't started i've would have forgotten they where in the next day probaly. Unpopular opinion incomming: There is only one of the dlc Swordfighters i was actually not absolutly indifferent too and could not care less about their inclusion, infact i was actually happy they got in. And that would be... Hero. Dragon quest is a great series and it deserved a representation in Smash (Also he was the original "hoes mad" and controvertial swordfighter.) and the CLOSEST ever we would get for anything dragonball related.

I mean, you could’ve added literally ANYONE ELSE. ANYONE ELSE. WE HAVE ENOUGH SAKURAI. YOU’RE JUST WASTING SLOTS ON THE FIGHTER PASS WITH UNORIGINAL OVERUSED FRANCHISES. It’s not the Swordfighters, it’s the UNORIGINAL Swordfighters. Cloud is unique, Sephiroth is unique, you could say a lot of swordfighters are original and unique but not when THERE ARE 4 ECHOES OF THE SAME GODDAMN CHARACTER WE HAD ALL THE WAY BACK IN MELEE THAT TOOK THEIR OWN SPOTS ON THE ROSTER.

The problem is that they are all sword fighters with similar designs and Sakurai can only reinvent the fucking wheel so many times before we feel like we are getting the same character over and over again. I know he puts in a lot of work and I'm very appreciative, I just think that representing some other games more would be fantastic, like, say, paper mario or sonic, or maybe even another indie game(I would scream if they added hat kid).
