This is nothing special. Kingdom Hearts itself put Donald, Goofy, Cloud, and Sephiroth next to each other, which I would argue is a much weirder cross over. And Smash Bros. is full of much weirder cross overs. Even Mario and Sonic is much weirder, considering that those two used to be rivalling products from competing corporations. So no, the "what a time to be alive" has passed decades ago.

That said, I don't know about KH1, but in KH2, they made it pretty clear that Sora didn't beat Sephiroth. After you "beat" him, Sephiroth doesn't seem winded at all while Sora is about ready to pass out, and Sephy more or less says "You're not bad...for a child. Anyway, that was a good warmup to pass the time, but I'm bored now. Go get Cloud for me, would ya, kid?" KH1 they didn't really do anything with Sephy as "story" and he was more or less just an optional boss, but KH2 gave him that little bit of story that seemed to imply he was holding back and just stopped the fight when he was ready to play with Cloud instead. That and that he was sort of linked to/born from/inside/merged with Cloud somehow...

Going from one legendary crossover franchise to appearing in another, I imagine this could fit pretty comfortably in KH canon without very much convolution at all. Ever since I saw that "Mushroom Kingdom Hearts" April Fools joke as a kid, I've dreamed of a Mario/Nintendo KH game. Basically the scenario this comment is trying to make is that around the time Hero got into smash, Cloud became friends (or something like that) with him and at one point, told him about Sora and the short but great time he had with him in KH1-KH2. Two years later (now) it's the first time in years he's seen Sora, and he's glad to see him again so he's smiling unlike he normally does. It's honestly something I could see happening if they gave the characters in these trailers more dialogue and interactions, instead of just having them be emtionless characters who just fight each other to show off the new character. But either way, the thought of Cloud being happy to see Sora after so long is just something that just brings a smile to anyones face (At least if they understand the context of how Cloud and Sora know each other)

@@Ridgely riku would make more sense for the series as a separate character as he needs some move set and animation switches to feel proper but like, roxas could literally be a skin for sora as he is literally a part of sora

The theory is that Sora is actually supposed to fit the lyrics of Smash's main theme, Lifelight. 0:13 "Colours weave into a spire of flame" Smash Ball being the spire, formed by the addition of different characters (colours), until the flame goes out (The end of Smash of DLC, makes them turn into trophies, as just another toy in one's life) 0:53 "Distant sparks call to a past still unnamed" (That one spark of fire calling out to Mario, the yet to be named true final character) 1:16 "Bear this torch against the cold of the night" (Mario's sword/beam-like fire looks like a torch that can bring life to the trophy-turned characters (also, keyblades are also known to be weapons only used by users of light)) 1:40 "Search your soul and reawaken the undying light" (Sora being the undying light, in which the characters stop being trophies from the "cold of the night", in which Sora lights them up one last time) This can relate to the Smash's very first lore in 64, them being toys. And Sora being a character who crossovers to many different Disney worlds now goes to Smash to light everyone up to reawaken our favourite characters as more than just toys, but moments of our childhood. Sora is canon. Edit: Oops forgot one more important thing. The orchestra version of Simple and Clean being played is originally called "Hikari" meaning light in Japanese. This is way too fitting.

I'm amazed on how well Nintendo recaptured Sora's KH1 look. His modeling here is perfect. A blend of cartoony and anime. Why can't Square-Enix model their characters like this? This is how I pictured Sora in a new gen type of graphics. Not the unreal look of KH3. Nintendo also did a great job on Mega Man too! That's I would be picture the classic Mega Man in new gen modeling. Even Nintendo do a better job with Sonic's model than Sega -.- lol

Well…there is no 3rd party character in the animations tho(Not including Sora, lol). So maybe, it was a bit harder
