@@CheerfullyCynical829 Absolute nonsense. Booksmart JUST came out in 2019. It's basically a sequel to Superbad. Everyone loved it. The reason they don't make many movies like this anymore is just because they BARELY make normal mid-size movies OR comedies in general anymore at all. It's all huge blockbuster movies that cost $500 million or little indie movies. And the big blockbuster stuff is frequently being SORT OF a comedy, and driving down the demand for actual comedies.

"Is that what teenage boys talk about." Yes, more than you might think. Superbad was released in 2007 and I graduated in 2006. It was the closest we'd EVER heard to natural dialogue for teenage boys. You could hear this sort of thing as early as 7th grade, but most likely between 10th and 12th... Heck, some never grow out of it and your hear adults talk like that too... For me and my best friends, we mostly grew out of talking like that before graduating.

*Some* teen boys talk like that. I never did...mostly because I was afraid a girl might hear me and you KNOW it would get back to a girl I liked. I used the f*** word in high school once (just once) and of course, a girl I knew from church was right in front of me...turned and looked at like I just started leaking radioactive waste. That's just my luck.

I saw this movie in the theaters in my 20's with another Army buddy. Both of us brought our European wives (which is how we got to be friends to begin with, our SO's met each other in English a Second Language class), who got probably nothing about what was happening in the movie. The two of us that attended American High Schools were so consistently out of breath laughing that we couldn't even explain what was happening so they'd be able to follow.

I had a friend group much like this. While we didn't watch porn together, the only time we really got "girl crazy" was when we would all be sat my PC, bored from downloading games and music on LimeWire, and I would go into Yahoo chat rooms and we'd all be on webcam, trying to rizz the girls and get them to flash us. By the time this movie had come out in 2007, it was very bittersweet because I saw so much of ourselves in this movie. As far as what we talked about: Star Wars, video games (PS2/Xbox), WWE, Eminem, or grabbing the video camera and recording each other doing ridiculous skits because Chappelle's Show was big at the time.

As hilarious as this film is I love how it deals with separation anxiety underneath.

When you think of Seth Rogen, please do not think about weed jokes. Think about the hilarity of everyday experiences. But yes also weed. 'Knocked Up' is a good one for this.

Teen movies before Superbad were glossy productions where everyone looked like a 25 year old supermodel and you could tell adults wrote the script. Superbad captured what teenagers actually look, dress, and sound like. Their school is nondescript, nobody is dressed in Armani, nobody has a 80k car. Even the pretty girls are cute without being glamorous. It changed the game.

I mean yeah the raunchy sex talk was pretty prevalent, but it was more like 40% of the conversations instead of 90% like in this movie. But the way and the manner the movie does it is pretty spot on

The biggest paradigm shift in teenage boy's life is when you stop hanging around your best friend all the time and start hanging out with girls on dates or with a girlfriend.

I really like the bittersweet ending as well, it always makes me tear up. Mainly because I relate to the movie and I have drifted from some of my best friends during that time. And yes, as a teenager, my friends and I would talk about that kind of stuff, but it was a good balance of topics. They played it up a bit in the movie, but it was still accurate. (Not many people here are willing to admit it.)

$97 for all that booze? That's nuts, even for 2007 lol. But then again, he was likely buying nasty cheap ass alcohol for $15 to $20 like many young adults do.

I can confirm that as a teenage boy, my friends and I did *not* talk about sex all the time. In fact, we hardly ever did. It was probably 90% memes, video games, and Taco Bell menu items.
