Don't know where this came from. It was on a stick I found. It's an insight into Allan Moffat and was produced by BP in the mid 70s.

I remember, I was there for so many of those races and now when I think back I regard Moffat as our version of Niki Lauda in his approach to motor racing, really the complete package.

Gee this takes me back, I recall being at Symmons Plains early 70's and getting Alans autograph I would have been about 11. He should have told me to sod off but didn't.... 50 years on and I've lost the autograph but not the memory of some great times..... I've always followed team red and Alan was the "enemy" of course but what a great driver he was, and surely a premium contributor to possibly our greatest era of motorsport, thanks Alan.

I think to many Moffat might have been a bit misunderstood. History has proven him to be proffessional, ethical and determined. Brocky was also a very proffessional, determined character. I think where Brocky had an advantage was where he was at ease with and had a special connection with his fans that Moffat couldnt and probably had little intention of emulating. Kudos to Moffat though, he gave 200 percent to every facet of his motor racing who never did it easy and must be very proud of his hard won achievements.

I agree, & I was one of those people. When he arrived with the Mustang I thought he was some rich guy who had had an easy run . He was a ruthless competitor. I know for a fact there were a few after race discussions in the paddock . I had no idea he was nearly running on the edge financially. His incessant plugging of sponsors annoyed me but I had no idea that he had to do that to survive. He was probably a better driver than he thought he was. I admire him immensely now but unfortunately his health is not great these days.

@@beagle7622 it was moffat that realli kicked off professional racng in australia.. he doesnt get enough credit for it. Prior to moffat Touring car drivers were not too dissimilar to 60’s F1. Gentleman drivers, run as you brungs, cashed up individuals - no one had setup teams to run professionally. Racng today is as borng as bat sh!t, no soul at all.

@@gfenwick1 Yes he did . I am reading his book at the moment, he certainly rocked the boat with the established drivers. I always thought the guy had a bag load of money behind him. I had no idea he rented the back half of the Malvern Road Garage or that he parked cars at a Melbourne City Car Park. The guy was tough, which I always misinterpreted as being arrogant. He doesn’t say directly but some disputes with people like Bob Jane were sorted out in the paddock . A friend saw Jane drag him out of the Mustang one day & I saw a few verbal arguments myself . Those guys would today have spent every race being penalised 1 way or another.

Was there anything else like the sound of a 351 GTHO or Boss 302 thundering past the Grandstand at Sandown? Aida comes in second best. Allan Moffat is an unusual man (read his book, Climbing the Mountain), but he knew how to get horsepower onto the ground and keep doing it lap after lap. Moffat was very successful racing overseas in Porches and BMW's, but my memories are of Sandown and Calder and the GTHO, the Super Falcon, the Fabulous Boss 302 Mustang, the Cologne Capri, the Chevy Corvair and the amazing BDA Escort that whipped Bob Jane's seven litre arse at his own track. Those were the days, and we will never see them again.

Takes a bloke back to how it was, just a really great moment in time first 1000km bathurst no mean feat now or then ? safety what,s that? last century was the one to live in, feel a little sorry for the ones that never saw it, but I,m glad I did, FANTANSIC, stuff just gold those two doors were tough looking gems, and the old Chargers looked good too, Ford did a great job, but it got really big really fast, A moment in Time, Loved seeing it.RIP Pete.

Brilliant find. There's a few Holden-sponsored HDT promo videos out there, but Ford stuff is as rare as hen's teeth. Really enjoyed this, especially as I love Allan Moffat as a driver and professional. He and Brock are streets ahead of today's drivers IMO, especially as they had to often nurse those cars to the finish. A great era.
