Dave from Behringer was on hand to take us through the features of the RD-909. Now obviously the RD-909 is a copy of the Original Roland TR-909, however the workflow and the sequencer have been updated to bring the 909 into the 21st century. Behringer have also changed some of the sound features from the original too, Dave took us through what is different to the original.

808 end of this month! This just became the most important vid from Superbooth.
@monolith2063
@monolith2063 5 жыл бұрын
To be honest I don't believe that. There is no sign that the 808 is coming soon, Behringer website does not have it on their product list and you also cannot order it in any webshop yet. Maybe they announce that the 808 is ready at the end of the month, but then it would take about 1-2 more months until they are shipped to Europe and US, until the important preorders are satiesfied, etc. So I don't think that you can buy it in a shop before August. I hope I am wrong, but... Update: somebody down wrote thay the same guy said in another video that they start shipping in September. This sounds more realistic to me.

The claps sound way off at 1:57. I did some measurements RD 909 uses 4 short and one long chunk of noise, 7 msec apart. TR 909 uses 3 short and one long chunk of noise, 10 msec apart. Behringer, please fix that before release :) Everything else sounds perfect, thanks in advance (take my money) !

Now I'm confused, I just checked and measured another video from the exact same setup (same writing on the bd section). See kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtlzl6xop8XFe4U.html The timing seems to be more exact, 10 msec like the TR 909, instead of the 7msec in this one. Maybe you can edit the clap timings somewhere in the menu ? I keep repeating myself, but almost all Behringer dudes keep looking like they can’t believe that they are now working for a great company with great products, rather than employees of those guys that make stuff you only buy when you’re short on cash. It’s endearing, and it’s also kind of a relief to see folks that aren’t as full of themselves as some of the top-shelf synth makers can be.

The analog wave designer gives you massive shaping options of the drums don't forget, you can even push it to pretty gritty saturation levels if that's what you're looking for. A lot of demos over superbooth actually had the wave shaper on so would have given a different transient response over different videos. We would definitely suggest you try one out once the opportunity arises, through the speakers live and direct. Having said that this isn't yet the finished article, it's close, but more work to be done on it. Stay tuned...

I've always wondered if Roland can and have legally protected their X0X named synths and drum machines, if that's even legally doable? And will the likes of Behringer, in this case, then have to licence the use of the numbers? I used to work in a radio station in the late 80's/early 90's. Pacific State was in the charts and one of the DJ's announced that the track was by BOB State, live on air!
@boothbuster
@boothbuster 5 жыл бұрын
grizcuz the numbers are not descriptive and thus not trademark-able, is what I believe the lawyers would say. So the trademark is probably for “TR 808” - nope can’t name the clone that. “Dope 808” is ok then for another company to use. The song title doesn’t matter because it’s creative license. As long as they’re not defaming the brand, of course. If you wrote a rap that Mickey Mouse shoots up, questionable. They’d probably fight it. If you wrote a song signing how Coca Cola killed your brother, yep, they’ll come after you if they want to. But it’s all a grey area then... would you have the funds to fight their legal, probably not unless it’s a #1 hit. Depends on what you say about it... sugar drinks do kill, slowly, but if you said it rotted his brain or something, then that’s defamatory and untrue.

Ok so after watching twice the kik drum sounds a bit Hi fi compared to original I understand and know there are small differences between real 909's but the key word is 'small'. The kick is crucial to this machine. I think it needs a bit more work. Couldnt hear the hi hats properly and basically the video isn't a good indicator of how this 909 really sounds. Honestly, im not trying to pooh poo this 909. I actually want it to sound the same because i would like to sell my own 909 (seriously).

Another video focused just on the kick. Sitting here right now with my 909 comparing. This one's kick doesn't come close. Behringers does far more extreme tuning but it's core sound isn't even close. This needs some serious work if they want to claim its a 909 clone, otherwise its just another analog 909'esque drum machine with a kick drum that doesn't sound like a 909. Rolands TR-09 kick is much much closer to the real deal. The kick is everything. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adagZ7p70dzLgKc.html

If it were me, hoping someone would take my comment seriously, I’d be tempted to upload links to wav’s. They’ll listen to your feedback, Behringer are really good at that.

Special K Citizen Behringer or more importantly the people who want this don’t care if its the same as the original as 99 percent of those people have never heard one in the flesh! Most people are used to the sound from records which is usually processed to make it sound good.. The OG raw 909 Kick from the box doesn’t sound that great it, definitely needs processing so this one will be the same

this looks really fucking cool, but i feel like they're almost giving us too many extra features? I want the thing for the classic sound, and i think i'll be a bit overwhelmed... Maybe make an RD-909 lite?

i think the Nava TR-909 would be my number 1 choice - it's as simple as the old one, too bad it goes for more than a thousand bucks......

Good for Behringer - too bad Roland, you played yourself. I am glad B'ger took feedback and added all these workflow and sequencer enhancements - I wouldn't have purchased it in it's prior incarnation. Thank you for "song mode" - TR-8 and TR-8s are totally lacking "song mode". The TR-909, TR-808, TR707, TR727, TR626, TR-505, TR-606 and TR-09/08 have "Track Write" where you can string your patterns together into a "song", why Roland left that out of their TR-8 and TR-8s is incomprehensible. I wasn't a fan, but I am sold.
