At Superbooth 2024, Dan Green from 4MS unveiled the highly anticipated MetaModule*, a groundbreaking module that brings virtual software patches to Eurorack hardware. Designed to merge the benefits of software and hardware, the *MetaModule features over 160 built-in modules, including popular offerings from Mutable Instruments and various third-party companies like Vogue Audio and Chowdhury DSP. I think this is going to be a great way to have a complex patch ready to go and implement among other hardware modules. Things like have a custom sequencer, or certain combination of complex modulators all under external CV control but internally mixed or processed. Or something like an FX box that you can easily swap out your sounds with (again complex, maybe multiple modules that would be a larger HP than this is). It wouldn't be a crazy HP for a full on CV controlled polyphonic oscillator/voice set either.

So unlike VCV Rack which makes virtual versions of real modules, this puts virtual modules on a real rack!?🤯 Wow. This wins the prize for most postmodern eurorack module ever. And some of the virtual modules are actually versions of real modules. So we have a real life versions of virtual modules which in turn come from the original real modules!! Like a dream within a dream!? 👽. We have reached singularity in modular synthesis.

Like others, I was blown away by this sneaked at the Buchla and Friends event. Proud that everyone kept quiet so 4ms could announce it formally. We didn’t see the expanders. Screen is beautiful if you are not anti-screen on modular. Can’t wait to order one.

Great coverage of Superbooth, Sonicstate! Took me 4 days or more to get through all of your videos and appreciate i's very intense for you to upload them so quickly - they're super , great audio, great everything. There are a couple questions you might have missed here: Any specs on this ? How complex can we go ? What are the limitations on the Meta SDK ? Can we code strictly for it without having to use the main VCV repo ? Like, could. I perhaps code a single module that would be optimised for the Meta ? In the same way as Lich or Bela. Stoked it's still bare metal 🥳

Super happy about this, i was so sad that the Roland Aira modules pretty much flopped entirely, yet it had these awesome features of being able to patch, add other modules into the patching and then transfer the whole thing to the physical module. It was great and they must have spent a shit ton of money on doing that, yet pretty much no one bought the modules i guess because they went on a deep sale pretty quickly. I hope this one does really well.

As a long time VCV Rack user I think this is great. Personally I am happy with a hybrid modular so use VCV on a computer and integrate it with eurorack but this is going to be a boon for anyone who wants to use VCV patches in a live environment. The UI for setting CV range looked really well thought out.

This has a chance to succeed where things like the Poly Effects Hector stumbled. VCV is a standard that people can code for, rather than a proprietary system that is limited to one wildly overworked developer.

This is a good direction. I've been wanting to see hardware, that can host 3rd party plugins. This isn't exactly what I want, but it's getting closer to what I want. I want a full premium synth, that can host any plugin. I'm waiting for the day that I can run Komplete Kontrol, Phase Plant, Pigment, Omnisphere, Serum, etc..., on a piece of hardware, outside of the box. Maybe even having an analog filter, to add some flavor. I would prefer high-end AD/DA conversion, with plenty of I/O. I basically want a premium computer, inside of a premium synth. Having a touch screen would be mandatory, maybe even have it so the screen can detach, like an iPad, so you can control it via bluetooth.

Brilliant guys! I’ve been pitching this idea of a general purpose vcv rack module to anyone who would listen for freakin’ ages! The Disting, the Illich, etc. all seemed okay but not quite like this module. Vcv rack has been missing a great opportunity to include a Module Marketplace for the developers. If need be I could buy a license from a developer/s and make my own module/patch and load it into something like this module. Can’t wait for this to come out.

It had to come , sooner or later - i think its fantastic - think of all that cash we spend on hardware modules ,- Mindboggelin 😲 but please please please - DO NOT EVERRRR take that evil AI route .... thats such a quackmire - lazy , dumb , bland, corny , and every bum and his uncle call themselves musicians , write a promt and press a button - it so lowlife and fake ,- i HATE everything even remotely connected to AI ! It will completely destroy any and all culture forever - goodbye real human thoughtout art - by Murphy´s Law - it will destroy humanity ..... theres NO two way´s about it !
