I played DDS for a bit - I found the encounter rate to be absolutely excessive, even compared to Nocturne. Atlus just can't seem to get the balance quite right.

SuperButterBuns dds2 is a pretty good improvement over dds. hope you enjoy it. PS: dds2 has some of the best music meguro has done

The Demi-Fiend is my favorite SMT Protag. Also Buns there is a very consistent way to avoid battles. It's called estoma. There's a merchant in Amala that sells a demon with all the avoidance spells.

I'm so glade you're playing the DDS series. They were my first two SMT games to get me into the franchise. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, especially DDS2.

i saw one guy doing a let's play on hard and he grinded so absurdly much he was taking down bosses and enemies in fewer hit than i was on normal. he was like 15 levels higher than me most of the game. i told him that eliminates the point of even playing on hard if you grind until it's easier than normal.

@@Jack_80 i mean if u like being REALLY frustrated. Im not spending 3 hours on a boss or level when i can overgrind and get thru the game alot easier. And hard modes are usually super brutal. For me, i grind just enough to where at least im just a lil bit stronger than enemies. So instead of 3 hours, maybe 30 min or hour on a hard part.

@@mintce2238 voice acting tends to ruin remakes/remasters/sequels I find. Ff7 remake, Kingdom hearts 3 and many others. KH 3 was tedious compared to previous games due to having everything voice acted. This game does not need any voices

Ahaha big difference huh? Ive yet to get to 4 or 5. I have 5 downloaded. I've beaten persona 3 (around 300 hours) and Nocturne( over 200) . Played some digital devil saga too. Nocturne had some TOUGH challenges. Especially the Labyrinth of Amala. I only had one section to finish but fucked it up. I finished the challenge for Masakados tho. Which makes demifiend invincible.

Yea persona is more about the story and its made to be a bit more mainstream. If u want the same level of challenge you should stay with the main series. I'd say strange journey is even harder than nocturne. The 2 first are harder but it's more because of bad design and lack of life quality options u get used to expect when playing newer games. Oh and the world navigation is a mess.

persona 5 was my first game and I struggled with that boss(I have yet to reach mot yet in nocturne) although I am better now then It was two years ago and I am replaying persona 5 so I may not struggle with it like I used to

Dokie Wokie Just as an FYI you can't actually kill God in the SMT games. It's more like you are killing a representation of God and it will inevitably reform. The absolute best you can do in this series is delay God, you cannot stop it.

Yes he is. You can recruit him later on in the game. He gives a coin toss to decide how much you pay him (Either half your money or just 1 piece), but fans of DMC already know exactly how to win that toss. Unfortunately Dante isn't good for post-game content. He doesn't have a "Pierce" skill that allows him to go past resistances. His replacement in the later Japanese version, Raidou, actually does.

I just started and right now, I just give the demons what they want lol. Most of them ask for a lot of macca and life stones which are very easy to farm.

@@obseed3041 In my experience it's usually the demons like Angels, Succubus, and Liliths that will ask you for everything then just take off for no reason. At least in SMT3. Early game it's kind of annoying since them asking for Macca and healing items really stacks up after a while. If they run off with my stuff I usually end up killing every one of that particular demon I come across until I recoup the cost.

The lesson I learned from every other smt game is just ‘pick the option that I think sounds the worst’ because my ability to gauge what any given demon wants to hear is just that bad. This was extra true in smt 4.

I going through a lot of assignments in my communication course, and writing out a well thought out piece that is more that 5000 words long while also trying to stay cohesive is damn hard. And doing this after every video..., I can't imagine how much concentration and energy is required for that. buns is just great.

Abraham Pancake Mash IV is absolutely better for newcomers but its quality of life/graphics may spoil new players from playing the other older SMT games (Digital Devil Saga, Raidou, etc.). Hopefully not though because they're all great games that deserve to be played. I went from Persona 3/4 to Nocturne, so it wasn't too much of an adjustment for me. Nocturne is a black sheep but a lot of the series' usual gameplay elements are found in it. Alignments, demon fusion, demon negotiation, needing buffs to win, all that stuff. You can't go wrong with IV either. The fact that Nocturne doesn't teach anything makes this one go either way.

Except Dante in Nocturne is Dante from DMC2 at the end where he went to Hell.

Kushy Pretend all you want but the game exist. Dante's design in Nocturne is a proof of that. Capcom made DMC2, Hideki Kamiya didn't made DMC2. You got that mix up.

I mean I can't blame them. If a game hurts my eyes looking at it, i ain't playing it.

many people are obsessed and even brainwashed by numbers in games these days. i can still play and love the visual style of many ps1 and even snes games but i couldn't stand looking at ff15 because it look so bland and boring to me. most people certainly feel the exact opposite just because ff15 has a much higher polygon count and resolution.

I prefer art style more than polygon count. Persona 2 is one of my favorite games and it doesn't even have 3D models. The combat system is good enough compared to P3/4/5, has arguably the best story in the series, amazing characters and an awesome soundtrack. But people won't play it because they need a PSP or Vita(which is pretty cheap nowadays) and they don't want to look at pixel art.

Art style is what makes graphics great. A gritty, realistic style looks terrible 100% of the time. Something more cartoony, like Ratchet & Clank, can stand the test of time.

Well yeah, this video was made 2 years ago. Atlus kinda forgot SMT exists and focused on persona for a good while, in the direct mini they announced the remaster and gave SMT V a release date. Before the direct they didn't talk about SMT at all they just said that the game isn't cancelled. In conclusion: indeed the game wasn't talked about much.

I can't speak for Xander, but one of the reasons I never did was because 1) I was never a PlayStation kid, so I didn't get access to a lot of those games, and B) I got tired of hearing from some of my high school acquaintances about the game in terms of spoilers and their SMT elitism nonsense. It's why I waited almost a decade to purge those thoughts and give anything from the series and it's spin offs a chance.

richard killface Thanks for making a lot of assumptions, putting a wall of text into my mouth, and not paying attention to a third of my comment. Since you missed it the first time, I'll make things a bit more clear. In the past, I avoided games, because they cared not for ears of the unspoiled, and constantly made assumptions that I wouldn't get it or never finish the games because they're over my head, which was all in the past. Now that I don't remember any of the plot details from any of the games, I was able to play and finish the two Persona games that came out around that time, and have played more since. I'm also looking into Digital Devil Saga and the Nocturne as well. Less about control by them, so much as me wanting to play on my terms, completely fresh and new. As for the games you mentioned, I've played the first two Souls games and loved them, played the first two of KH, and said, "Fuck it!" when the games I needed to play were on so many systems, and was too much of a commitment to play for something I was lukewarm on. I like Nintendo system games in general, and play the occasional fighting game. Point is that I enjoy the games that I do and anything else I consume because I want. It's just that sometimes a lot of effort is need to make the experience my own. My question to you: What exactly was the point of your comment, if you were so utterly and completely wrong?

tbh, (S)MT ~started~ on Nintendo platform. SMT IV being on 3DS (also, don't forget Devil Survivor or Strange Journey, all DS exclusives) is equivalent to returning to the old way. Also, there are a slew of pretty violent games on both Fami and SuFami. Nintendo of Japan is pretty metal. Family friendly aesthetic was heavily pushed by NoA in particular.

Nintendo is and have always been pushing for a baby friendly approach, see how almost all its first party IP are colorful and child friendly. It is the third party game makers the ones that have historically pushed for more freedom until nintendo had to to simply accept to get more lax with censorship to not lose third party support to other emerging consoles.

And a few of the Zelda entries, specifically Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess. Fire Emblem is a pretty dark/mature series as well. Hell, two bosses from the Kirby series cry blood. There are Kirby bosses that literally cry blood. LITERALLY CRYING BLOOD. *CRYING. BLOOD.
