So I did this, couldn’t wait any longer for the follow up video. Only issue I had was with the stereo male to RCA plug. I ordered it brand new but I kept getting that popping noise Ralph was talking about in the video. After pouring over all my connections I just tried using an old RCA to RCA connection from the Line Out Converter to the amp and it worked perfectly. Hope that helps any other impatient people such as myself.
@marshallkkurtz

I did this too (RCA from line level converter to RCA in on the amp.) What did you wire the transducer into, the green “Super Bass” port?
@s0u1assassin
@s0u1assassin 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wired the transducer to the little green plug. I really just went kind of blindly into the whole thing not having done anything like this before. It was intuitive enough I suppose.
@marshallkkurtz
@marshallkkurtz 3 жыл бұрын
That’s what I did too. It makes a difference for sure, but it didn’t seem to be as much of a boost as I was expecting (unless I turn the bass volume up past the point where the blue light starts blinking). I asked Ralph about this on his Coffee Talk and it doesn’t sound like he’s planning to update this video, but he did say he’d post something about it on his Retro Ralph Facebook page.

I also can’t figure out what he’s using the cable coming out of the front Aux jack for. It could be cool to put a headphone jack near the front of the machine, but I figure he would have mentioned that as part of the mod if that was his plan.
@s0u1assassin

@@marshallkkurtz that’s the stereo to RCA plug that didn’t work for me. I’ve found myself doing something to this cabinet every week since I got it. First was this transducer mod. Then I switched the plexi for glass. Moved the solenoids to the top plate this past weekend and am putting in some Happ buttons this week once they arrive in the mail. I absolutely love this machine. Yes, the 720 screen is not ideal but when you’re actually playing it doesn’t matter. People keep comparing them to $3K home made monsters and those are two very different machines. For $550 I have no complaints with what I got.

After watching few of these 1up Pinball videos, i will have to cancel pre-orders on them and go with the Atgames Pinball. There are videos of it on youtube now and if you compare one to the next you will understand for around $150 more have a much bigger better working unit without a number of upgrades to make it to your liking. IMO.. If you are strapped for space this may work better for u.

I have these same exciters and transducers in my 27” cabinet that I built in the spring. They are so awesome so I would definitely recommend it for the Arcade 1 Up cabinets if people are comfortable doing the mod. For me, it was probably easier since I was working with a PC and simply hooked everything through Amps and the 7.1 outputs on my motherboard. The end result is just so immersive.

Ralph, You Don't need 7.1 to use exciters and bass shakers, what you need to do is actually properly make a 3 way Crossover that filters and sends proper signals to each of the relative and correlating frequency ranges of each of the Exciters/BassShakers. Think of it like a Bookshelf speaker with 3 drivers a tweeter, mid, and woofer. Same thing, by adding several amps to your build your kind of needlessly spending extra money you don't need to Crossover PCBs are pretty cheap compared to a 7.1 amp. I would say If you want to do it properly, head over to "parts express"(clearly Ralph did Dayton Audio is their house brand) and you can ask staff questions on the website to help you out in designing your project.

Great video. But I have a question about the 3.5mm plug. When you take the plug from the back of DMD it has 3 sections I guess that's what I want to call it, 3 black rings. Most of the ones you can get only have two. Would that make a big difference between the sound and having to use the line converter? The "3 ringed " plug has 3 pairs of wires and of course 2 ringed has 2.

So I never did a follow up because I couldn’t reproduce this again with enough certainty that it would work for everyone. I did think of an alternative that would make this way easier though. I device like this can extract audio via HDMI. This would be a much cleaner solution and easier to reproduce from a modding perspective: J-Tech Digital Premium Quality 1080P HDMI to HDMI + Audio (SPDIF + RCA Stereo) Audio Extractor Converter (JTDAT5CH) a.co/d/dDpZ88t

Man I’d be doing good to just put the thing together, let alone mod it. Much respect to you though :) The main thing I would want that probably isn’t even possible would be glasses free 3D on the screen but I know that would be expensive for Arcade 1up and maybe not even possible. But depth on the table would be great!

Hey Ralph - It would be awesome if you could post up the measurements for the machine. I am going to build my own and would like to get it close enough to use third-party printed side art for the body and backglass sides. Sure would appreciate it...

Hi I know this is late but I'm just trying to make sure that in this mod you only used the bass shaker and the two after market speakers right no exciters? I didn't see a link for the smaller exciters for the flippers. Thanks for helping us by the way!

Where are you at on the update/walkthrough? I got all the parts (aside from the actual pinball machine) and I’m super excited to drop this in on day one.

What’s the max play field screen size you could mod it with? 27” or 32” also same question for a screen size that would possibly fit above the speakers/dmd? This would ease my mind purchasing knowing I can mod it with whatever screen sizes you think will work.. love your channel!

Wow! Now I see why your name was mentioned in other reviews that I've read... Great informative video.. I'm looking for a way to make my Marvel Pinball more like the more expensive Vpin machines and the bass shaker is right up the alley of what I'm looking for. I doubt I can do anything about the 720p but with the right mods like more real feel vibrations and rumble I can live with the 720p look. I'll be selling my 3 arcade games and replace them with a higher level Vpin please give me a few suggestions on moding the Marvel I have and what should be the next Vpin I should get that will give me all I want without ripping my wallet to shreds.. Thanks for the great video that answered some questions for me and looking forward to your suggestions.
