OH, BOY! THIS WAS SOME DUMB FUN.
Manimal was a short lived 1983 Tv series. Dr. Jonathan Chase was a shape-shifter who could turn himself into any animal he chose, and used this ability to fight crime. In nearly every episode he would transform into a hawk or a black panther. In some episodes, he would transform into a third animal, such as a horse, dolphin, bear, or bull, with the transformation taking place offscreen, though once he was shown becoming a snake.
The transformation sequences were designed and created by the Academy Award-winning SFX artist Stan Winston and they were amazing. Of course they re-used the same footage over and over, but for a TV show the transformations were first class.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen any episodes of Manimal that I had completely forgotten how great the transformation sequences were. For an early 80s tv show, Manimal had excellent practical effects. I’d love to rewatch the show now as an adult. Thank you for uploading this video and for showcasing the best part about the Manimal tv show!

Watching this show as a kid I used to try to turn into a Panther, I would look at my hand and try to stretch my fingers and concentrate on turning. Lmfao 🤣

I loved this show when I was a kid but didn't realise it took him a long time to transform. Time was really of the essence when falling from the sky. I think he also transformed into an elephant. A shame it was short-lived. Great spfx ! Ahead of its time, IMO.

Even the intense music gives the transformation a punch but by the time he completes the transformation the bad guys are long gone.

Still wondering where his clothes went when he changed. They made a valiant effort but these kinds of transformation effects were just too expensive and difficult to do well on 1980s television compared to something like The Howling or Altered States. Still, Manimal must've done something right since so many of us still remember those 8 episodes after almost 40 years. This is one of those old shows that would make for a good remake though and I'm surprised nobody's tried so far.

Que buena serie era Manimal, junto con otras como Mágnum, Lobo del aire, Matt Houston, Automan, Los Magníficos, El Auto Fantástico, Mac Giver, El hombre Nuclear, La mujer Bionica, Los poderes de Matthew Star, El Hombre increíble, Comando Especial, Buck Rogers en el siglo 25, Nam la Misión del deber, etc etc etc hicieron mi infancia feliz

Only the hawk transformation I never understood. How can his hands become the claws...where did the wings come from? It made more sense for his feet to become claws and his hands/arms to be wings...but still, it was amazing for its time!

I love that show as a kid. NBC on Friday nights central time. I've been meaning to catch this up for sometime now but kept forgetting. Still dig it...but as I'm older now🤔....goddamn it took him 9 hours just to transform into one animal 🤦🏾‍♂️😆. Love to see a remake of this

Bonjour et merci pour cette vidéo. Ah... Que de merveilleux souvenirs, ces séries des années 1980. Mes adorées, mes préférées. Je suis tellement triste que Monsieur Simon MacCorkindale soit décédé ; je l'ai su hier, lundi 27 décembre 2021. En regardant le film "Jésus de Nazareth" de Franco Zeffirelli, j'ai vu qu'il tenait le rôle d'un soldat romain, Lucius. Quel acteur ! Une carrière méritée. Quelle tristesse. Mes condoléances à sa famille, à ses proches et à ses amis.

When turning into a bird, his hand should be becoming a wing instead of a talon. But I think the reason was they had his hands become talons instead of wings was because it was easier for practical special effects and makeup to pull off on television at the time. But then what is the rest of his body is like when transforming into a falcon? This is my main problem with these transformations.

@@kattdaddy974 Let me clarify my actual problem with this show and it’s transformation sequences, parts of them are good but they’re mainly ruined by the lack of detail they’re giving when he’s turning into an animal. Why does he usually start in a standing pose when he turns into a four legged animal like a panther or something armless like a snake? Does he stand on all twos until he’s fully a panther? When he has turning into a snake, why did he have to stand with his right arm our even though snakes don’t have any arms or legs? And I don’t see any point of having his clothes ripped off of him during some of his transformations when every time he turns back into a human, the clothes somehow magically appear back on like nothing happen to them. These transformations make no sense at all. Now do you understand my problem with this show?

I used to wait up or get up at all hours of the night for these awesome transformations and when I look at em now I just admire how much imagination and patience "little me" had, to really immerse myself 1000% into these shows. It was bad, but it is what we had.

Considering that a falcon uses it's talons like we use our hands, it makes perfect sense to me why his hands became talons when transforming into a falcon, in the pilot episode he transformed into a white house cat but we never saw that transformation, when his old army buddy asked him how it went, he said "I was a real pussycat".
