Mystic, a Playstation KZfaqr, recently shared a graph from a Playstation financial report that showed live-service games accounted for 51-53% of the PS revenue for the last three years. The other half was everything else, presumably including traditional single-player RPGs. I wouldn't be surprised if this division applies to the gaming audience in general.

Really surprising to see that they're moving away from business units to a project management structure! Baku seems to be right on the money regarding the theme: consolidation. Maybe games were more fun when we didn't know so much about the business side of things!

I have always been interested in the business side of things with these companies, short of joining them lol Process and organization is how stuff gets done, and the stuff in question are the games we play. Unlike typical software approach, this is like software but with a story, and play elements, and art, and voice acting, and a whole lot more things thrown in, and they all have to make sense together; it's definitely a very tough balance for any organization to perform. So, when done right, it's truly something magnificent to behold. -Baku

I’m primarily a JRPG player. Two years ago, out of curiosity, I tried the monster hunter rise demo to see what the fuss is all about. Over the next 3 months I failed to see the point and find the ropes. Now, after two years and over 700 hours into it, I can definitely say I’m hooked for life. MH is notoriously difficult to get into but once you’re in there’s no escape 😄

people never got what I was saying: bankers own square-enix so their profits expectations and what games to make is BONKERS. a former Square-enix exc was quoted on reddit saying that they in the board rooms was literally saying we could have used x amount of millions of dollars and make more money on investments outside of games than making this game etc. Okay, fine, so get out of the jrpg business "jp morgan chase bank" LEAVE BYE BYE!. get some real companies to get these IPs. I get that these developers wanna make as MUCH money as possible, but these complains about earnings from their jrpgs are insane. they literally expect every jrpg to sell more and more no matter what they make - they (these dumb publishers) even released 3 jrpgs at the same date, granblue, yakuza 8 and persona 3 reload. They assume the jrpg market is what? unlimited with money and players? Heck, square-enix even release their diofield chronicles and valkyrie elysium within a week- same publisher, like, what are you doing?! Why isnt ff7 remake part 2 selling MORE? we know why, maybe people dont feel like paying full price for a mid game in a trilogy ...they live in a bubble. Its scary what these bankers are asking for, no wonder Iga left Konami saying they were pushing for mobile phone games and he wasnt having it. Get these bankers out of the business!

haha great show. I had to lough out several times, especially the "fun" part was hilarious :D. Thank you guys :) I btw think you can still make a lot of money if you not going the GaaS model or just a light version of that model. Look at splatoon, its very successful and it also has updates over time but it has no extra payment except you buy one DLC addon which addsa new singleplayer mode. This is in my opinion the way to go. I just hope Nintendo does continue this way in the future with the online mode of Mario Kart for example...
@WeebSauce
@WeebSauce 2 ай бұрын
I think there is nothing wrong with GaaS at a fundamental level. My gripe with the industry is with how they go about it: - Companies usually utilize freemium and blind box models that is built to exploit psychology to maximize profit, very unethical. - They usually engage to GaaS and put profit first, which is doing things backwards. They should be trying to build a great game that happens to be live service. - Baku

I feel that dude, we are spoiled for choice of top tier RPGs that have been piling up these days, especially because I cannot play through them at anywhere near the rate needed to keep up!
@WeebSauce

Maybe this is the other reason why I like indies. I am always on the look out for something short and fun that I can add into my existing back log to let me switch things up a little. I am sure others do it better, but it's hard for me to play 100+ hours RPGs back to back to back, RPGs that comprise most of my backlog. So, new games that respects my time and tells a short but powerful story is always on my watch list. -Baku

Does anyone know if Trails Through Daybreak is faster paced than the earlier Trails games? It looks interesting. I don't care about spoilers for previous games (I will probably never play them).

I see comment's all the time that say gaming is in a horrible state, but if you go back 15 years games were pretty janky as a whole compared to now. A lot of people have their Rose Tinted Glasses on right now, but won't take them off to try playing new games themselves. Great episode tonight though there are quite a few games i'm looking forward to from the state of play.

Knowing where to start with Trails is worse than Ys? I beg to differ! Ys is way easier to jump into. You could play any of the games on their own. Trails is not like that since it is soooo based on exposition, writing and world building stuff.

Yeah, I think Baku eventually clarified he meant in terms of understanding the timeline. Seriously, soon as I mentioned people could start with Dayberak, I could hear a _thousand_ tool sheds opening as people retrieved their pitchforks!

With trails you can start either from the very beginning or from some narrative arc (of course in this scond case there are some minor spoilers or returning characters, but it's not too bad) I started playing with crossbell and I am still alive and healthy 😂

About the Silent Hill thing. I'm no fan, never was, I don't know anything about the game, bur´t the statement that they changed it for modern audiences doesn't sound good.

I think that's definitely interesting, because it raises the question: How are _modern_ audiences significantly changed from yesteryear's audiences? Only thing I can think of is now we're strapped for money _and_ time. At least back in the day I had plenty of time. 😆

@@WeebSauce 2 things, this is Konami and not Capcom, and this sounds more like the agenda driven "modern audiences" and not improve the game.

@@Lamasis2 How does one tell between an aesthetic choice for story telling and an agenda (when the game isn't even out yet, no less)? It would seem to me that the criticism so far has been a bit cynical and pre-emptive.

@@WeebSauce It is, but again, my problem lies with the statement "modern audiences", which is mostly used to denigrate people with concerns by calling them racist or sexist. I don't know how it is with Silent Hill. because like I said I have no clue about this franchise. What even is the modern audience?
