Fun fact. - People think Matt reuses the same still image of the Honda S600 for the outro, but In reality he go to the car and re-records it each week to show his fans exactly how much progress he's made with it in the last 7 days. :D

He needs a clear vinyl wrap after all the stickers go on. Solves the aero issue and makes it easier to clean.

You so overestimate my ability to learn and explore hitherto unknown dimensions of failure on revision mark ii. It's not that I'm incapable of learning/doing better. I just have more opportunities for something to catastrophically fail. Better for all parties if the fates just rubber stamp it with a gimme.

Your ability to learn from your failures depends on your ability to gather information from your failures. That means adequate recording instruments and test parameters. The best thing you can get out of a failure without either of those things is that you can potentially clear up a lot of unknown unknowns and the questions that you didn't know you needed to ask.

The way the tail section slots in is really nice. And the superstructure for the solenoids was genius move. So clean. Looks like you took notes on “things that sucked” and iterating through them methodically.

For a quick easy exhaust disconnect, look at the Tri Clamp fittings from the dairy industry. Easy to do, easy to safety wire, and they come in stainless.

For your quick disconnect exhaust, look at V-Band clamps. Usually used on turbocharger piping.

Your body will have a lot of imperfections that isn't in CAD that will add a lot to surface drag. So you might want to prioritize lowering surface drag over lowering pressure drag. DISCLAIMER: I don't actually know what I'm talking about but I think bit sounds reasonable, just might be worth looking into.

For the safety pin holes for the parachute, you could design a spring powered flap to cover/fill the hole when the pin is removed. Just a fun extra project

With my old Racecars, I’d make a part, set it aside, make another one, set it aside, and just keep doing that until I couldn’t make it any better anymore. This doesn’t work well for expensive things, and many times it got limited to two or three times, but it did make things better, almost as good as if I had paid a pro to do it and sometimes it even came through cheaper than the pro lol

Matt using air hose quick disconnects for the parachute cable disconnects reminds me of something similar I did in college. For an intro to engineering class, I used hose quick disconnects for attaching a golf bag trailer behind a bike. I screwed an eyebolt into the NPT threads until they locked together. The eyebolt was attached to another eyebolt to create a joint for the trailer. It worked great.

For the exhaust connections I recommend something alike the bleed air pipe clamps on the 737. It’s 2 flens ends with a concave pipe end on one side. Then there is a clamp that holds the 2 flenses tight together. And with a copper or Alu gasket in between you have a quick detachable gas tight pipe.

Totally agree with the just try it mentality. I’m building an engine for my racing go kart right now and didn't have a clue what I was doing. Learned sooooo much building that. Although most of the lessons boil down to some variation of stop being cheep and just spend the money to get the right _____. Being a cheep bastard has its flaws. On the bright side I have some real shiny and expensive parts in my motor and some new tools. Also a lot more knowledge than I did before. Who knew valve lash was so important🤷‍♂️

Have you thought about making it with golf ball dimples? It might reduce the air friction by creating a layer of air acting as a squishable sponge or it might make it a lot worse

One thing to consider would be the center of gravity to center of pressure. One of the first things learned in amateur rocketry is keeping the center of gravity in front of center of pressure will keep from random psychotic flipping and destruction at high speed 😊

If you wish to lessen friction drag then look at a golf ball and it's dimpling which will net one more mph as well as a decent percentage better mpg over the smoothe flat surfaces... 😮
