Well. I think I can sum it all up. There are some things you just can't improve up on . Car door handles should be on the top of the list. I love a lot of things about the Tesla Model Y but The Door Handles Are Just Stupid.

You reasoning is very interesting. I think a car one the road is better than a car in a museum is better then a car in a workshop is better then a car collecting dust. If EV drivetrains gets them back on the roads it’s awesome. Unless it’s a very significant engine but as you said, those will just be passed on. And let’s be honest most engines haven’t been significant but they just did their job.

The only thing I really know about karting is that the drivers are all, to a man, woman or child, utterly insane. There are no bunch of drivers crazier - or having more fun - on the track than karters.

Old school Craftsman boxes, at least their upper end models, are pretty stout for the money. I have a 20+ year old stainless with upper chest, lower cab, and middle drawer units that still looks and functions like new. I also have three Pro Series (Craftsman last "high end" box before the sellout) and they are great quality. Easily on par with Snap-On and Matco's entry level boxes, at 1/4 the price. I do like Snap-On and Matco though, and am looking at getting one. My problem with all the other boxes you have is the COO. I have a Husky box as well, and it is a POS!! It's Husky's "heavy duty" model too (with the 18ga steel). Since new Craftsman boxes have taken a huge nose dive in quality, the only ones left that are still American made are Snap-On, Matco, Mac, Proto, and Cornwell (at least I think their boxes are American). Yes, there's a few others, but not in the came category - I need "mechanics boxes" for my needs. American made is extremely important to me, and definitely worth spending more. No, I don't think Snap-On boxes are worth the "asking price", but, from what I've been reading, you can get them for 40-60% off if you try hard enough - then they are "almost" worth it.

I was there there in 21(?) the last year Shute had a canopy and first with turbos. It was super cold at Devils Playground during practice. I wonder how cold your hands get in an open cockpit OR does the downforce keep a warm bubble in the cockpit? I wish I’d asked 😊

Old video, but for the sendcutsend (i guess lasercut) parts, with holes next to bends, you can put a slit on the bend line that is the length of the hole, and it will relieve the bend and not make the hole wonky. Think i saw this in some other video, but don't remember where. Yes, i did try it myself. Yes, it works.

I have to mention the backstory of Per Eklunds pikes peak build. They filmed the entire build, it's on KZfaq but in Swedish and without subtitles sadly. So Per and his mechanics, friends and at the end anybody who proved somewhat usefull built the car themselves in some garage in the middle of nowhere. The carbon fiber molds from Saab were off and other as to be expected hurdles for trying to put a racecar together. They just worked, worked and worked, basically lived of the local pizzeria. The pizzeria even refused to take their order once since it was for so many pizzas they were sure it was a prank call. Such a pleasure to see the amount of self thought and skilled mechanics putting the car together. And all they had were pretty much basic tools. The only fancy stuff was parts for the car. They were stupidity close to not make it and shipped the car over untested. This car then set a record in the open class that stood for 12 years. That's the beauty of pikes peak. This is btw my all time favorite motorsport story.

Back in the early 80s I witnessed two guys rev out their production bikes. Both air-cooled and carbureted. Honda and Kawasaki. Both revved to plus 13000 (WOT) while parked. After a few minutes Honda expired (with a bang) - dropped valve? Kawasaki just kept going - red hot factory headers (so probably dual pipe). And just idled when he let go the throttle. Both 900 0r 1000 cc - can't remember exact models. May have been when Kawasaki was hand porting "big" bike cylinder heads. Carbs can give same or better peak power, just not as drivable as injection. But why so much difficulty revving a modern engine?

I think a suggestion would be to build another, larger insulated box that you can bring to a lower than the oven, but still fairly high temperature. You could even try to find a fighter pilot/racing suit that has integrated cooling, so that you're able to work in the room. This should allow for the polycarb to not cool as quickly as you're positioning it, and also all it to not cool as quickly when it's... cooling. My guess is that you're spot on with the assumption that the streaking is due to uneven cooling between the top and bottom. My intuition is telling me that it's because the bottom - the mold - is insulating. The top cools off more quickly, starts to contract, and then crumples back down onto the mold, and the whole process begins again. These internal stresses will cause optical distortions like the "funhouse mirror effect" you've attained. If everything is allowed to cool down both more slowly, and more uniformly, you should see much less of an issue re the striping. Unfortunately, human beings aren't really designed to operate in the environments that would be necessary for this polycarb "tempering," and your design (at least going the "I don't have a million dollars to throw around" route) essentially necessitates human interaction at this step. If at all possible, you'd want to have an "airlock room" at the entrance to the insulated "tempering room" such that you could minimize temperature changes in the room caused by opening the door.
@shikutoai
@shikutoai 3 күн бұрын
Another potential route would be building another larger box, but not as large as the one I previously suggested, and use it as a "tempering box" with the mold and windshield both placed inside. Or perhaps you go the route of "preforming" the windshield the way you showed in this video, then stick both the mold and windshield inside a larger "shaping box" such that the windshield is forced to comply with the shape of the mold. Then turn the oven off, and let it come down in temperature gradually.

can the mold take the heat? if so why no make the oven bigger and put the mold inside? also would.t a space heater work better than an oven??
