Excellent lession. Would also be cool to see a lesson on 6 or 7 string arpeggios of more complex chords combining legato and sweeping. Stuff like full 7th chords, suspended chords, half-diminished, etc. Or even just lessons covering the lower strings, which always trips me up for some reason.

Sweeping & economy picking just never made sense to my stubborn right hand. I grew up in the era, where the teacher said (ala Al Di meola) "DOWN, UP, DOWN, UP!" It was strict alternate picking or legato. Thank God for NUno & Paul Gilbert, who introduced me to string skipping, which felt way more natural, and allowed me to kinda, sorta fake sweep arpeggios, if i lightly muted a bit.

Dear Uncle Ben, I'm a big fan of your workouts and I think the instruction you share on your channel is hands down stuff that many other guitar teachers would happily charge for! I'm sure I speak for literally thousands of other players when I say thank you for these mini-lessons! I have one suggestion, but mind you, this may very well be just caused by my own idiosyncrasies when it comes to sweeping, but here goes. This etude makes great (and musical!) use of many triad shapes on the treble strings, but I notice two that are conspicuously missing. I guess you already know the one's I'm talking about, these are the first inversion Major and minor triads that require finger rolling to execute. Now the reason I bring this up is that while the one-finger-per-fret-per string shapes can be used to perfect timing and movement in sweeping, for me at least one of the trickiest things has always been executing those shapes with rolls evenly and cleanly. So my suggestion for those playing this etude would be to add in those shapes with rolling in there as well. Playing through those shapes also helps one to not classify the rolled triad shapes as "being in a category of their own", just because of the technique required to execute them. I feel this helps with musical expression and definitely helps with integrating sweep picking in your own playing. A second thing that at least I struggle with is maintaining consistency and timing with arpeggio lines that have a lot of legato articulations mixed in, so that your actual picking hand does this "start-stop" type -of deal instead of one fluid movement. Like a 5-string minor 7th arpeggio in root position, for example. Playing that starting from the root note, you have one hammer-on (root to minor third) on the 5th string, then sweep across two strings and have a second hammer-on (minor 7th to root) on the third string etc. I find these to be *especially* tricky, since your picking hand has to be fixed in place, waiting for the next note in the arpeggio. Why I wrote all this is that I don't think that type of timing is necessarily easily practiced by using shapes where your hammer-ons or pull-offs happen only at the ends of the passage.

I would say Tosin Abasi, Muhammad Suicmez, Jason Richardson and Olaf Lenk have some of the sexiest sweeppicking. That said, I will have to also mention the OG himself, Yngwie Malmsteem. His sweeps match his tone. A lot of guitarists, imcluding the ones I memtioned before, have sweeps that sound like they're from a different channel and they slice through the mix, but not Yngwie. His sweeps are built into his riffs.
