It is the curse of Superman. Any one who plays him ends up in a bad way. George Reeves of course and Christopher Reeves were not related except to play Superman....and both met tragic ends. Most of the others who played Superman were never heard from or seen again...except for Dean Cain....who often pops up in minor rolls.

Rewatching this scene, it's a lot less of Superman being petty enough to seek vengeance against some random truckstop goon and more him humbling a bully and putting him in his place for the sake of the rest of the diner, which is a very Superman thing to do. The fact that he apologizes to the owner and pays for the damage is what puts it over the top.

Something to point out he simply humiliated the guy but in the end he's still alive to regret he picked on someone. If Superman wasn't the person he was Rocky might have ended torn apart and left somewhere on the highway. However, that isn't how Superman works. I almost felt like the way he approached Rocky that superman felt a little apprehension given the look on his face and the way he walks up to him. Even though he knew he was superman and this was just a human being it was still the guy who had beaten him up and made him bleed. Something that he had not really ever experienced in his life. I think he had an irrational concern however small that somehow his powers might not work on this guy and he was trying to overcome that unfounded fear. He did this not only for everyone at the diner but also to get closure for himself and the trauma he experienced.

Then as Clark picked him with one hand, maybe Rocky was thinking "oh no, I shouldn't of argued to him that I took his seat yesterday and injured him because of it" and at 1:20 the look on Rocky's face was like he was thinking "I'm so injured and dizzy I can't move, what's he going to do to me next" and maybe as Clark pushed him over the counter, Rocky might have been thinking "I thought only Superman can do this" even though nobody at this point knows that Clark is Superman (Lois knew until Clark erased his mind of it with a kiss) and as Rocky was knocked into the pinball game, he soon probably got amnesia and totally forgot about stealing Clark's seat and injuring him.

I want to make another comment that may interest some. Rocky was played by Pepper Martin a professional wrestler who had moderate success in Portland for about a 20 year stint. In real life he was an extremely likable and friendly guy. He said that they filmed both diner scenes back to back. He said Reeve told him that they were the most fun for him to film. Reeve took him to dinner as well. Heard in an interview with Martin that can be found on KZfaq.

@@cid2852agreed it's the same with TV shows. I recall reading interviews with the cast from a British soap opera and one said the old People who are gentle on it usually swear like sailors and are hot headed in realty. And the villains and hard men are usually talking about their children and normal things when the camera is off and are nothing like their characters.

Had one kid that would hassle me in school. Say all kinds of crap to me. I just took it but then one day on the bus he made the mistake of kicking the bag I was holding. Physical abuse was a red line for me. I would take a lot of verbal abuse but if you laid hands on me it was different. I instantly reacted without thinking about it. Jumped over into the bus seat he was sitting in and punched him right in the head with enough force that it caused his head to slam up against the window then I went back to my seat. That was the last time I had any problems with that idiot.

You must be somehow confusing Superman with maybe The Dark Knight, which are...not easy to confuse. ???

@BringerOfTheTruth : Mild-mannered _Daily Planet_ reporter "Clark Kent" is Superman's disguise, not his "human side." Superman's character remains as Superman and Clark Kent, both. He was motivated by a sense of personal _Justice_ , not personal _Vengance_ as the video's title erroneously suggests.
