With the AVGN Superman 64 episode being revisited we decided to cover another awful Superman property... Superman IV: The Quest for Peace! Which is probably the worst Superman movie, though Superman III and the new DCU films have their terrible moments. Let's see what James, Justin, and Tony have to say.

The same movie where Superman doesn't even try to lure Zod to an open field with no civilians but instead fights in the middle of the city, destroying buildings left and right, most likely killing millions? The same Superman that has the personality of a rock? Yeah, no.

I went to see this in the theater with some friends when it came out in 87. I remember leaving the theater feeling so sorry for Christopher Reeve that he was ever involved in this. It was a disaster.

Electric Boogaloo was a great documentary. I grew up watching almost all their movies, and the documentary definitely explains a lot of what was going on behind the scenes. Including what was very sketchy finance handling.

The "dark side of the moon" isn't literally dark; it's called that because we can't see it from Earth because the moon is tidally-locked to the Earth, so the same side of it is always facing us. As the Earth and moon rotate, all sides get exposed to sunlight.

As a kid the only two movies my grandparents had (I lived with them) was Superman 1 and 4, so I thought 4 was a direct sequel for the longest time. Anyway, as a kid with super low standards I loved 4, but will acknowledge now that it's dogshit.

Jon Cryer told a story once about how on the set of Superman IV, Reeve took him to one side and warned him that the movie was going to be a piece of shit. Like, the one good thing about it was Reeve's idea, where he suggests that he'd be willing to help them get rid of their nukes. Everything else was shitcanned and harved in quality. Like, to be chained to a movie like that was embarrassing regardless of whether you were contractually obligated to or not. Cryer was just a young fella, and thought he had landed the big time with a Supes movie.

Superman III is honestly a worse movie than Superman IV. Like yeah, the fourth one is still bad, but it's so bad that it's good. Superman III, on the other hand, was dreadful to watch. The only funny moment from it is the scene in the Olympic Games, other than that it's just Richard Pryor being unfunny and shoehorned deep down into your throat.

Reeve used to stable his horse at the same as my dad - weeks before his accident my dad spent a while talking to him. My dad said it was such a genuine, grounded conversation and that Reeve was such a likeable, candid person. Sadly it's not something my dad talks about.

There is just a side of the moon we never see, here on Earth but the moon DOES spin on its axis, it just also spins exactly once per Earth revolution and that's called geosynchronous orbit.

Huge Superman nerd here. One of my favorite Superman moments is in a deleted from Quest for Peace where Superman fights Nuclear Man 1 and just says, "Relax, I don't want to fight you." Small insignificant moment deleted from a deleted scene from a bad movie but it's stuff like that makes me love Superman so much.

It kinda goes full circle to see John Cryer, who played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV, now playing Lex Luthor in one of the recent DC shows.....Supergirl, I think. But this happens a lot in these shows: John Wesley Shipp who played 90' Flash and Flash's dad in the new series; Christopher Reeves who made a cameo appearance as a professor in Smallville, alongside Tom Welling playing Superman; Supergirl's "Earth" parents played by Dean Cain (Tv's Superman from Lois and Clark) and Helen Slater (Supergirl in the 1984 movie), etc.
