I'm eternally saddened that he never got to experience Avengers IW/Endgame. Obviously there's a lot more important things he didn't experience in his life but I just remember watching those movies and being bummed that I wouldn't get to hear his geeky thoughts on them

I actually disagree, I think his ideas for Reborn/Lives were very innovative & exciting. I like the giant spider/thanagarian snare beast battle, I like his concept for the flying scenes being superman literally taking giant leaps in single bounds & causing sonic booms & his overall desire to make a live action version of the Fleischer cartoons.

Kevin Smith’s was easily the best version. I’m impressed. I’m quite lukewarm on him, but his pitch easily felt the most polished and professional. Complete.

Given how much he knows about comic books, I'm amazed he's never been asked to write another movie. I know he's written for TV comic book shows and at one time was going to write a Green Hornet movie, but let him do one!

If you’re going to make a Superman movie where he doesn’t fly, you might as well go the Joker 2019 route where you try to tell a character drama under the auspices of a superhero film. Make it into an All The President’s Men newspaper journalism movie about understated introvert Clark Kent trying to uncover corruption in the midst of a chaotic world on the brink of collapse and only hint that the superhero appearing on the television screens is actually the same person as the character we’re following. If you want an action film with a Superman who doesn’t fly or, at the very least, leap over tall buildings in a single bound, there’s almost literally no point. It’s a project doomed for failure. If you aren’t gonna at least reinvent the wheel, you’re just gonna fall flat on your ass next to a bicycle seat and some pedals.

That would've been an excellent pitch for Man of Steel. The journalism aspect was thrown in . Clark Kent's drifter period could've been about him becoming a war journalist who has a knack for survival (using his abilities for money) and having witnessed countless atrocities, decides to do something about it.

I love Smallville the tv show, when it premiered, there was talk in magazines that there was a rule for the show to follow, no tights, no flights, meaning he wasn't allowed to have a suit or fly in the show, which sort of worked for most of the show, as it showed him learning about his powers and later finding out about Krypton via Dr Swann played by Christopher Reeve

That show made sense because Superman was still a young boy learning about his powers and having to do homework at the same time. But a full adult grown Superman NOT FLYING is utterly ridiculous at it's core.

I know Cage is not exactly anyone's first choice for Superman, but hearing/reading about his love for the character and that he appreciated the use of the source material for the cancelled film, it would've been neat to see how he played the character

(maybe if wb ever gets around to that flash movie?). there's that great Wired interview with Cage where he talks about his roles that completely changed my perspective on the man. he knows exactly what he's doing, and that coupled with his passion for the char could result in a cool take. and he was awesome as s-m noir and superman in teen titans go to the movies

It's ashame Cage gets too much hate now and is literally just a joke for films. He does have talent, I mean I had mix feeling about his films, but Birdy, Peggy Sue Got Married, Moonstruck, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaption and Lord of War show some great performances from Cage because he nailed the characters.

The truth is we can never know how good/ bad these movies would have been. Intent doesn't equal execution. No one hopes for a bad movie outside of unusual circumstances. These will always be what ifs.

While you were talking about Nic Cage, you should've thrown in that he picked the last name Cage because of Luke Cage (his given last name is Coppola. He's the nephew of the Godfather director and 'Adrian Balboa' actress Talia Shire).

What I loved about Wesley Strick's version (apart from it being VERY Tim Burton-esque & had a very Batman Returns feel) is that Brainiac is like the runt of the litter, Superman's unwanted AI brother. When Superman & K merge Brainiac & Luthor merge into Lexiac as counter. Strick really nailed the character of Clark Kent & oh man this movie would have been Tim Burton's masterpiece

The real reason Jon Peters liked to have stories read to him is because Jon Peters is extremely dyslexic and he didn't want anyone to know because he thought they would take it as a sign of weakness. Once screenwriter Joe Ezsterhas refused to let Peters take Joe's script Foreplay back to his house so his assistant could read it to him while Jon lied on his couch, closed his eyes and envisioned it. Joe even laughed at the idea which infuriated Jon Peters! Joe watched as Peters karate chopped Joe's marble coffee table, breaking his wrist in the process!! Joe later said, if he had known Jon was dyslexic he probably would have let him take his script home. FYI - Joe's Foreplay script sold for big money (over a million) so Joe wasn't letting anyone take the script home. They had to read it at Joe's house if they were interested in buying it.

So I had to come back to this video after seeing The Flash movie tonight. I can’t believe we got Nic Cage and a Giant Spider. It actually… looked pretty entertaining to be honest, and I say that as a huge critic of Peters’ works and personality. I’m honestly shocked at how much I liked that snippet, lol. Now a whole movie… who knows. But get Nic Cage in the DCU/MCU nowww.

I want to see Superman Lives so bad after that cameo man. I think even an animated movie would be awesome. Just get Burton/Cage behind it. I was told Cage actually suited up for the cameo, not sure why they decided to completely CGI it. Hopefully we get some really good behind the scenes footage/deleted scenes for The Flash. But I was totally sold on Superman fighting the Thanagarian Snare Beast, AKA the Metal Spider haha!

My recent travels online include a dialog with a fellow Tolkien fan about Aragorn beheading the Mouth of Sauron during Return Of The King...actually there're 2 factions...one is that Aragorn didn't do that in the book because that would be an egregious breach of protocol. The other is that he's bad-assed, and that's its own rationale. There's also a legendary profanity-laced rant by Zack Snyder how Batman fans need to "wake the f*** up" and accept the fact that the old prohibition against taking life, or even firearms simply isn't practical anymore...there's also a video on Twitter where where the crowd absolute erupts in applause and cheers at Zack's statement. And me? I'm an old stick in the mud who still recalls the Lone Ranger never shooting to kill...or Lee Falk's The Phantom, for that matter. I remember being frustrated as a kid that Disney's Zorro never dispatched his opponents like Errol Flynn's Robin Hood did the Sheriff of Nottingham. I get it now, in my 2nd half century of life...there's some wiggle room between being a pacifist and a,,,as you point out...a psychopathic Brightburn

Kevin Smith is arguably the biggest comic book fan in pop culture, given a blockbuster film budget I think he would’ve done a fantastic job directing a Superman movie.

As weird as it sounds, I think Jon Peters would have killed as comic book writer. Dude had the chops. He is like a reverse child of Frank Miller and Grant Morrison. Hell, he was running roughshod in Sony and that is story waiting for an adaptation.

I'd love for an animated version of this to be made, so long as Cage himself voices it. As for the art, I've always (especially with films involving different alien races/cultures) hoped that they would get completely different artists with dissimiilar styles to each handle a different culture's look. Same would apply here; Kryptonian visuals from one artist, Earth from another, Brainiac (maybe) from a third and so on. Even to the point of possible multiple artists used for Brainiac's managarie of shrunjen and captured cities and critters.

It would be really dope if we were given, either comic book or animated, some form of media where we could actually see for ourselves what both Kevin Smith and Tim Burton's versions would have been. Preferably as a double feature/set. I would genuinely be interested to see both, at this point. I don't even care about JJ Abrams version, comparatively. 🤷🏾‍♂️🖖🏾🧐💯

The Tim burton superman film is definitely the one film that never got made that I would love to see.... it would’ve either redefined superman going forward or failed hard and destroyed his marketability for years after. I’ve always wanted sliders technology so I could go to a universe that made it, and see how it would have turned out

When the documentary came out it made me become absolutely fascinated with how movies are made. Cause growing up I was ignorant to all of it. I just assumed movies are thought up of & just put on the screen. All the twists in turns, all the effort in vain. They got so close yet were so far

I would love to see a movie based on the novel "The Death and Life of Superman" by Roger Stern. Every time I Heard they were doing a Doomsday/Death of superman movie, I would get exited. I was always Disappointed.

Strick’s script is both fascinating and terrible, the dialogue is absolutely atrocious. I think what Burton should have done was used what Smith had but gotten someone to better structure it.

@@srstriker6420 - In most the New 52, in DC You and even in the movies they were shamefully trying to show Superman as a conflicted gritty figure like Batman too. It wasn't until the DC Rebirth that they finally started getting rid of all that unnecessary edge.

Ok, here’s what should’ve happened. Smith’s script. Burton and his friend’s designs. A tiny bit of creative control to Burton, just a tiny bit, because I think a DC Burton Verse would’ve been awesome. But, yeah, that’s what should’ve happened. Also, I think the first idea would’ve been interesting, the one with Superboy & Morpheus, but not as a theatrical film. Oh, also, I think a trilogy was planned, since it said that Sandra Bullock skipped out on a three picture deal as Lois Lane. Who knows, maybe we could’ve seen Bizarro or Parasite.
