I do really like this idea for an evil Superman as the villain. I would prefer Ultraman to start off as being seen as the “ideal” Superman at the start then slowly starts to deteriorate and turn into Bizaro.

Dude Gunn has almost all A+ RATED films, LET HIM COOK 🧑‍🍳 He’s literally an A student, look at his filmography, they’re almost ALL A’s and B’s….He deserves our Trust

I’m picturing in my head, If ultraman deteriorates into bizarro, then his mind could deteriorate as well and he’s scared, but hawkgirl and the others see him as a threat and try to take him down. But Superman can see that he’s just scared and doesn’t know what’s going on, and so instead of fighting him, he tries to help him. If something like that goes down in this movie, then I will gladly call it the best Superman movie.

If this is true, i kinda like it in a meta way. Gunn shows audiences who the true Superman is by defeating the played out trope of "evil superman".

I love this idea, evil Superman has become way too prevalent in recent years and needs to end, but it should have been bizarro

I feel like Ultraman will eventualy turn into Bizzaro throught the movie. Kryptonian genes are very unstable and hard to clone in the comics, hence why Superboy is clone from the DNA of both Superman and Lex Luthor. I feel like instead of the whole Bizarro world alternate dimension thing, he will start out as Ultraman or some other "evil" version of Superman from the comics and through the course of the movie you start to see him deteriorate and become Bizarro. Regardless I like the idea of a clone of Superman even if this movie and universe already seems to be adding too much. Plus it opens the door for Superboy "Conner Kent" to be introduced in a later installment where Luthor creates the perfect Superman clone

Honestly Chris, I think Ultraman is a pretty well-known character at this point. He's been in multiple animated films as well as live action because he was in Smallville as Clark Luther from an alternate universe and recently in crisis on infinite earths part 1 a few months back

Bizarro was supposed to be in Superman 4 quest for peace. There are deleted scenes of Christopher Reeve's Superman fighting bizarro.

Comparing with his work on previous comic projects, Gunn makes changes that doesn’t need homework for the audience but wants to make something new that still echoes their source materials. Like Peacemaker having the White Dragon as his father despite not related in the comics but does have a trauma of learning his dad being those kinds of people. I’m still looking forward to it.

I like the idea of Superman coming into a world full of already existing superheroes, being the newbie, and setting a standard for the heroes. As far as *I* know that hasn't been done before, atleast in films I think (someone do correct me if I'm wrong). So I'm pretty excited for this.

Thanks Chris this is another great video, especially since you are moving while making these. Also yeah Gunn always carefully tries to word his responses as to not completely give away or confirm something, I remember a Daniel rpk tweet saying that Gunn cancelled then in development Green lantern show but still had plans for GL in the future, Gunn retweeted no with Hollywood reporter saying also no & everyone mocked him (Daniel rpk). Only for the DCU slate announcement to confirm that iteration of show was canned in favour of the new one being made by him & of course then the Nathan million announcement. My point is that Gunn is now an executive and he is going carefully word as to not give anything away & sometimes outright blatantly lie. Mind you this isn't a condemnation of him this is just accepting he isn't going to be truthful 100% all the time.

I recently read the superman grounded comic and i LOVE that version of superman hes that classic boy scout that we all know and love while also not having a problem with beating that crap out of bad guys i hope thats the version of superman we get in this movie or at some point down the road

Sounds to me like they're adaptating one of the moments from Superman: Red Son (Russian Superman Elseworlds tale), the one about Superior Man. He kinda becomes a Bizarro like being in the story.

I don’t think there’s anything that’ll derail my excitement for Gunn’s Superman! I love his storytelling and he was one of my models when I create my own. So I can’t wait to see what he comes up with!

there's a lot of really cool "evil supermen" it could be! my top 2 picks would be Eradicator and Cyborg Superman I'm not sure if they want to go all multiverse with Ultraman yet so I'm a little suspicious of that claim... my highest hope is by far Eradicator! since he'd make sense from a story standpoint, Ultraman would be confusing and Cyborg Superman really needs more of a build-up since he should be a big villain!

That will be so cool! Hopefully the end is like the Injustice end fight with Superman trying to tell Ultraman that he can still be good and ends with Ultraman sacraficing himself to stop lex.

I would like to see a traditional villain. Brainiac, (Actual Bizzaro) hell even Toy Man!

It could really be interesting if Ultraman is introduced fairly early on, say 20 to 30 mins in, before it shows Superman saving people working with other heroes, and then Ultraman appears is more violent and people prefer him to Superman, that’d be in spirit like Kingdom Come and the Elite

In a way I kind find it as a commentary as well to all the previous Superman stories with evil Superman

I love this idea 👌👌 because it fits the idea of Superman seeing kindness as old fashioned! So he'll use kindness to become a better hero, which in the Kingdom Come storyline all of the heroes exist for the fame and dirty deals with the government

The original Man of Steel is going to be tough to live up to. I hope he pulls it off well as I'm anticipating this film.

When you said familiar superman villain and said that ultraman basically wasn’t I was shocked because when I think of superman villains ultraman comes to mind after the usual ones such as lex zod brainiac doomsday and then ultraman and even a lot of kids probably know ultraman as he appears in Lego dc supervillains

I honestly wouldn't like it if this was the introduction of the ultraman name for a evil superman, because then if they ever introduce the ultraman of the crime syndicate average audience members would probably be confused so i would like it if ultraman was introduced along with the entire crime syndicate so we could have cool justic league battles and stories

While I do think that ultra man is an appropriate character to have it a Superman movie with the theme that James Gunn wants to go with, I still hope that this version of ultra man will wound up being bizarro in the end, maybe by being deformed from the fight with superman

All we need is this: Has James Gunn ever steered us wrong? I mean EVER? Exactly. Any idea can be great if executed well, and dude-bro’s writing is always on point. Dude made Polka Dot Man awesome. Imagine the internet TODAY if he was just now making Guardians. He’d be laughed off of the planet by this community INSTANTLY. The time of “fans” insta-judging creative announcements needs to end. It’s ruining film art. Let the artist do what they will, shut our pie holes, and stay on our side of the fence. We are NOT in any rightful position to make demands or insert ourselves into the creative process. The time to judge comes after the art is put out there and NOT beforehand.
