Other than dustloop, there's an old series on called Guilty Bits that goes over some character specifics in a fairly beginner friendly manner. Its from like 2012 so the production quality ain't great, but the info is pretty good.

Ironically the creator of that series is the exact same "somebody" who was aggressively misinterpreting the intent of Sajam's 2 minute tutorials on Twitter LOL. Based on the Guilty Bits video, I can only assume that he was offended by the prospect of somebody potentially making a Zato tutorial any shorter than 11 minutes and 20 seconds.

@@Samflaful Yeah... I don't want to just one-sidedly dumpster people in KZfaq comments, but I can't help but also think of the time he picked a fight with LordKnight and SKD on Twitter when they were discussing how rhythm games can be a fun way to practice your reaction speed and target recognition skills for fighting games. It's weird bc his content like Guilty Bits, Airdash Academy, and Exploring Fighting Games are all great and actually work to dispel some close-minded attitudes about the genre, but his own attitude on Twitter is often so at odds with that philosophy. Sucks because I think he's one of the best general fighting game resource creators out there, all else aside.

I might have been in the thread Sajam referred to at the beginning of the video. This game has soo much going on. I decided to play Slayer and the timing of every link is incredibly hard. I have yet to pull off anything cool with him but my Blazblue buddies tell me I got some sauce with him so I'll just keep trying. This is quickly replacing BBCF as my main game. I still do a lot of IAD and backjump airdash forward, but the latter usually is because I fuckup the backdash cancel. Production value on those "guilty bits" videos is rough, and the 90 seconds intro is killing me, but right now it's the only thing we have. We need more people doing small bits like this one.

There's dustloop, and guilty bits, but the first is missing a bunch of info like common combo routes on some characters and the latter is a product of its time, with insane intro length, and is more about telling you what a character can do so you can choose which one to play, rather than an actual guide on the characters. The best you can do is probably to find the main discord and hang out in the character specific channels. There are a bunch of people being super active over there, trying to figure this out together. I don't have a link right now but it's probably not gonna be too hard to find on reddit

Mind explaining why neutral jumping is better than jump back > Airdash? It help me understand why that option is better. Thank you
@InsaneVisionary
@InsaneVisionary 3 жыл бұрын
Basically when you've neutral jumped you have the option to back off, react to your opponent, air block etc and you're generally safe at neutral because you can block an air approach. When you air dash, you're locked in the air dash until the animation completes so you can get combo'd out if they're ready for it. It's not always better but it gives you far more room to play in a way they can't immediately predict since it doesn't lock you into the dash option.
@Bladebrent
@Bladebrent 3 жыл бұрын
@@InsaneVisionary Gotcha. So you cant do as much while airdashing in this game, and you have the option to react to alot more. Thanks for the info ^_^ My best guess up til now was that you want to "Stay in" generally speaking instead of backing off cause I know Guilty Gear awards aggression alot (at least with meter), but even then, that would probably be a character specific thing on what range you want to be at.
@ccchefccheffchefff
@ccchefccheffchefff 3 жыл бұрын
jump back air dash is also bad because the jump back itself does nothing, there is no pressure that comes from it. so all you end up with is a pointless jump that telegraphs your incoming air dash. like the other commenter said, neutral jump leaves your options open. if you neutral jump and see that they're whiffing normals, you can airdash in and punish them for it. that then gives the opponent something to be afraid of and eventually neutral jump alone becomes a threat. once they're scared of your neutral jump they'll start trying to deal with it, and the way they deal with it will leave them open in some way. they won't always be whiffing normals for you to react to, but they will be doing something, and that will open the neutral game up.

do a tutorial explaining burst, its not in other fighting games so 0 idea what it is or how to use it
@InsaneVisionary
@InsaneVisionary 3 жыл бұрын
Burst comes in 2 forms in guilty gear: Gold and regular and you can only use it when your burst gauge in under your hp is glowing orange. You can activate burst at any time while you're being combo'd and it will come out as a regular burst. It will usually break your opponent's combo if they haven't taken precautions against it (baiting it by being out of range, predicting it and stopping their combo to block and reset you etc). If you press burst while not being combo'd, it will come out gold and will give you full meter (max tension) if you hit your opponent with it. You get one burst at the start of the match and once you use it, it will slowly recharge as actions are taken in the match and you'll be unable to burst until it does. It does no damage when it connects and is the only resource that carries through rounds. I hope that helps!! I tried my best to make it concise while covering everything.
@InsaneVisionary
@InsaneVisionary 3 жыл бұрын
Also, generally you'd want to use it defensively either to avoid a combo you know will do massive damage or to stop a round/match loss. The gold burst is far more risky

Most of this applies to pretty much any anime fighter. The basic blockstring is usually something like 5A5B5C into special. If they're blocking, you use a safe special. If not, you use a different one for more damage. Same goes for neutral jumping and approaching with air options.

@@mikeneil74 Same as the gentleman above. I used to play on the analog stick, but it always felt inconsistent. I lost so many times because I thought I was holding down-back (1), but the actual input on the controller was just crouching (2). Or accidentally jumping forward instead of neutral jump or 236 or missing the timing for an IAD. You could definitely stick with the stick and do well with it because the motion inputs are definitely smoother. Switching to D-Pad helped me a lot, though (even if it took me about a week to get used to doing motion inputs on it).
