@chennykins1550

angelak06 agreed. Cameras in the general and community areas of the house, but not bedrooms. My parents have a camera outside our bedrooms but it points down the hall and you can see movement in and out of the rooms and if anybody were to break in and go upstairs we would be able to see it. Cameras for safety, yes. Cameras to invade privacy, no. These parents were using cameras for their own self-reassurance. Their intentions to have a better grip on their children’s behavior makes sense, but it came from a place of desperation. No wonder they needed supernanny as bad as they did. I’m glad with some persuasion and new found knowledge Jo gave them, they were able to see their own wrongs and get rid of the cameras. Sometimes parents actions harm us than help us, this was one of those times.

I think its a little hypocritical of the parents to say they installed cameras in the children's bedrooms so they could feel "in control" and hold their children accountable for bad behavior.....but then they called Jo in because they were having trouble controlling their kids and doing discipline. Where is the trust there? Its like they won't allow their children to be honest on their own and say what the problem is....they have to install cameras to make SURE they are telling the truth.

Kids need personal space in their bedrooms. That’s what they’re for - a private room for a child to go into when they want to be alone. I'm glad they took the cameras down. Imagine these kids when they started going through puberty soon and begin learning their bodies. That's far too invasive. I was monitored by my parents my whole life and had there been cameras in my room, I wouldn't have been able to cope once I reached my teen years.

Slightly different, but I had to go to therapy when I was 14 due to depression. My parents went with me, obviously, but they never went INTO the office during my sessions. Years later my mom told me she didn't because she knew that I would have never told my therapist what was wrong if my parents were in there. I genuinely hope these parents took Jo's advice after filming and understood that cameras IN their bedrooms (creepy to begin with) is a COMPLETE invasion of privacy.

As a 4 year old I used to tell my moms boyfriend repeatedly that he wasn’t my dad therefore I didn’t have to listen to him … one day he simply sat me down and said “I know, you have a dad and I’m not trying to be him or take his place” …and that has always stuck with me. He basically affirmed my confused feelings whilst also putting me in my place

Cameras for security, fine. But to watch the kids playing to make sure they are behaving and whatnot? No. The kids get dressed in their rooms and whatnot. There was just a story about a family putting a camera in their daughter's bedrooms and some guy hacked into it. That is not okay. Sure, when the kids are telling two different stories and it is difficult to tell which is telling the truth, it might seem convenient to just play it back but come on, talk to your kids and figure out the best way to deal with the issue without the cameras.

20somethingsWorld I never did say it was about me, but the original comment seemed to basically group all of us step parents together as a bunch of pedos and a bunch of creeps. And of course I took it personally, as I’m in a position where I get to love a child that’s mine without having given birth to him. He’s the light of my life and it’s people like the above that give step parents a bad rap.

I think the fact that the mothers first words were “no mention of the disrespect” shows she truly doesn’t care. She doesn’t care that the children she CHOSE to be a mother to are hurting and that they feel like they are “bad” children. She obviously didn’t want them to say something incriminating against her. If she had nothing to hide she wouldn’t have said that. She would have listened and taken a look at what she’s doing. She didn’t. It was all about control for her and that she has things to hide, as well as searching for them to worship her rather than be honest.
