@@ryanthompson3446 if you have any questions let me know. I work in a very similar way. Often their interaction with people on Instagram is bad though, trashing other people doing great work that actually mirror a lot of this. There's a fair amount of gibberish in what they say about it. The terms they have for things and the hint of mysticism is unnecessary. This video was good though as the other goata content on this channel.

Honestly all of this stuff can be applied by people simply running and jumping barefoot more often. You don’t have to actually THINK about keeping your feet straight once you practice running and jumping with good mechanics for a few sessions. But IMO even Powerlifters should be training to run and jump barefoot cuz that’s healthy human movement, and they’ll excel at their sport because of itz

One thing I would say they may have wrong. If you’re not using your heel, you’re not using your glute. Just because people usually roll incorrectly from the heel directly into the inside ball, causing all sorts of problems doesn’t mean the heel is the problem. It’s the sequence. Instead of rolling and springing properly from heel, to outside ball, to inside ball, people are skipping the second step and leaving that outside(including of their glute) not firing as it could/should. This doesn’t just stop applying up the chain. You want to be able to take the weight of your body plus more and drive, with the outside of your foot, knee, AND glute. And if you’re wondering why people struggle so much with their knees and lower backs, the answer is neither are getting the support they need from the glutes.

Trust me brother. Do the exercises they do, with the proper form. The place you’ll feel the most burn IS the glute and hammy. I understand what you’re trying to get at, but the absolute fortress of video evidence they have of what they’re describing is indisputable at this point

Squat either with feet planted or on the balls of their feet. Simply saying "natives" or "tribes" is a big red flag for me with GOATA because there are tons of "native/tribal" folks who have poor body mechanics. In a search for getting back to natural and healthy movement patterns it's certainly possible (as they've shown here) to venture into the realm of pseudoscience. Their message would be a lot more palatable if they focused less on Fibonacci and tribes and more on very focused demonstrations of good vs bad, exercise vs everyday and simply before vs after results.

So there is one big bone of contention here. The arch is designed to contract & relax like any muscle. I do agree with the outer 3 toes being for force absorption but to say the arch is not designed for weight bearing I think is nonsense. Especially when you tale into account the importance of big toe contact for engaging the glutes. Also the comments about second toe straight is very dogmatic, if you don’t assess the hips for ante-version or retro-version then pulling the foot in could be detrimental to someone if that does not match the persons bio-mechanics.

Noticed one of the guys stated he had a bilateral hip replacement, I have had rt knee replacement and my lt. knee is bone on bone. How safe are squats for myself and the total hip replacement person? I do have 30 yrs of powerlifting under my belt but have not lifted heavy or squatted in 15 yrs. So what I'm asking is does a total joint replacement rule out heavy movements ( squats) for us? I have been able to do fairly heavy leg presses ( 900lbs ) x5 with knees wrapped. Great informative video.

Uhm, there simply is NO ball and socket joint at the ankle, an unless you are looking for ridicule, you should fix your vocabulary about well known anatomical landmarks. The Ankle joint is primarly made for plantar/dorsi flexion as it is a synovial hinge. There are pronation and supination movements that occur as well but mainly due to the articulations with the other bones that form the arch. It's incorrect to call it a ball and socket. If you want more credibility I'd call the joint what we know they are. That doesn't mean that your exercises are ineffective. There's a degree of truth that the posterior chain musculature is underserviced these days because of the way society is programmed; sitting too long, too much emphasis on footwear and not enough time walking around barefoot, etc. Exaggerating contact on surfaces that activate posterior chain muscles is not a bad idea. That's what you stumbled upon. Clean up your language and stop ridiculing others and you'll get farther ahead.
