dean martin was the greatest con artist in show biz so to speak. he was multitalented yet conned so many into thinking he was a drunk....he sang gloriously, charmed millions , had a wicked sense of humour, loved his shows,, and did a good job acting....Someone in a documentary about dean said this;; ' do you think he would be as popular and successful if he was a drunk? so true. Esp after he left jerry , he made it on his own He had his own talent , lot s and l ots of it

In a movie that's got enough great lines for three films, my favorite is Jim Garner talking to Harry Morgan (Prudence's father): MORGAN: "That girl's plumb crazy." GARNER: "Oh, sir, why would you think that? I know why I think it, but why would you?" Incidentally, one of the many reasons I love "Support Your Local Sheriff" is that it was truly a "people's hit". The studio brass, who must have all been constipated, were absolutely sure that it would be a flop, so they refused to do any promotion for it, and only gave it a limited release. Almost immediately, long lines began developing at every theater that was showing it, as terrific word-of-mouth spread like wildfire. The studio expanded the scope of the release, and the same thing kept happening over and over, until "Support Your Local Sheriff" was one of the year's top-grossing films. I love anything or anyone that sticks a finger in the eye of "received wisdom", which is usually a lot more received than wise.

I love the whole movie but my favourite bits are: Garner chivvying Elam to keep up says, Come along Jack! Who of course has to reply, Jake! The mayor saying, to Garner, I raised her myself after her dear mother departed. Died huh? No, just departed. Great writing enhanced by a wonderful cast.

I'm not so sure. A modern handgun, yeah, the bullet would have blown his finger clean off and hardly slowed down. Those 19-century cap-and-ball six-shooters? Might just have exploded in the guy's hand. Might not. Bring the Mythbusters back to test it.
