Hey, it's Andy with ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com testing out the new 1600 Supreme from Supro Amps! Those in search of a no-nonsense rock 'n' roll machine should look no further than the 1600 Supreme, a faithful reproduction of Valco-made Supro and Oahu amps from the late '50s. The signal path of the 1600 is laid bare, with nothing coming between the AC of your pickups and a punishingly loud 25-watt power section. Parallel gain stages found in the high-gain preamp course through a single shared tone knob before slamming the 6V6-equipped output stage. The 12AX7-loaded preamp features two inputs, which allows use of two simultaneous instruments, but single-use players have the option of an shared input. This 1+2 input is internally bridged, and is activated just by plugging in, sending your guitar through both parallel stages for double the gain, which really thickens up the sound. Despite its straightforward design, the Supreme holds pedals in high regard, providing loads of clean headroom for the discerning pedal freak. A class-A power section ensures you that the Supreme delivers all the pick attack, touch sensitivity and subtle tube compression while still remaining loud enough to peel paint from venue walls. The robust sound owes a bit to Supro's BD10 speaker, an original design which features an enormous magnet to push maximum air. Players looking for even more power can use the external speaker jack to hook up an extra cabinet. True to its roots, the 1600 contains no beam blocker for greater tonal thrust, just the way Keith Richards liked it.
