I love the 1606. I wasn't expecting the sound that came out of it at all. Definitely thinking of picking on up

1605r sounds pretty good, but whoa that little class a beast...

The mic makes a huge difference here.

@@sandrosadhukhan i certainly don't doubt that. still to this day i have yet to hear of a better sounding amp than one of those little class a amps made by valco (supro, airline, etc), even after playing a not-so-valco reissue in- store. one day i'll have a tele/ valco class a heavenly combo of my own. btw, i made my own little overdrive pedal (slightly modified runoffgroove supreaux or supreaux deux, can't remember which) cause i like this one so much. sounds pretty good, once i found the right FETs and resistor values. opens up when you dig in, which is one of the things i love besides how the treble and mids sound. i'd still love to learn about mic placement, thanks for sending me on a new rabbit hole haha!

@@zhou_sei if you go the vintage route, the Valco-made Gretsch amps are electronically identical to a Supro but used better materials for the cab and are still considerably cheaper than a vintage Supro.

How would you compare it to other harp amps . I'm an old harp player and it sounds similar to a 50's valco I should have never sold .Can you tell me tube line up please Thanks , Harp man Dan

Because there is no tone control, I do like that it does have some natural bottom end to it. I did, however, notice that I can’t get the same “sag” as I can with my similar sized Gretsch amp. That is probably because the rectifier in the Supro R.I. is solid state and therefore does not have a rectifier ( 5Y3 ) tube. Actually, you may be hearing both the Supro & Gretsch in my sound sample.

Have you had a chance to see if it takes any pedals like a fuzz or treble booster? That's what I use mainly...but sometimes small amps won't handle much pedalwise... thx for any help!!!! I'm considering one of these for small gigs with a moderately loud drummer, i just want something that won't fold if i hit it with a pedal or two...

Craig Paddock It does in fact sound good with pedals. At lower volume levels where you can't get the amp to break up itself, I've run a Rat dirt box and a Boss Super Overdrive with the gain pretty high and the volume low to good effect. If you can get the amp to about 3 o'clock(viewed from the back) on the volume then running pedals like those mentioned above with the gain dialed back and the volume up on them sounds best, pushing the preamp hard and letting the amp provide most of the grit. It's a tricky amp with no tone control so an EQ pedal might help quite a bit too. If you hear a bit more hum than most amps at idle, it's normal. Nothing to be concerned about when playing as it's easily drowned out. Being only 5 watts, there are many attenuators that can also give you more flexibility in mimicking a master volume control.

Thanks so much. I have an analogman modded ge7, so this could be the thing to grab. I'm looking for an amp for small gigs. I already have the amp with more headroom covered. (6550s loaded marshall clone) My only experience with really low wattage amps is a silvertone 1333 from 55', but unfortunately, the speaker sucks, so it doesn't really take pedals well. And no one can seem to recone it because the magnet is incurably small. And no modern speakers will fit in the amp, so I've about had it with the silvertone unfortunately. But through messing with the silvertone I've noticed the same things you mentioned about using pedals, you either can't push the amp too hard or apply too much grit when the amp is already cooking. I've noticed lately how huge of a difference an efficient speaker makes...I played the hand wired vox ac4 and you could have told me it was a 30 watt amp and I would have believed it...crazy loud and bright. Not the circuit I was looking for, but wow.

I don’t think this has an effects loop. Would a delay pedal work very well between the guitar and amp?

Eddy H I run an Aqua Puss Analog delay and really like the effect on less distorted sounds. Delaying overdrive doesn't sound so great IMO though

I have both... go for the Supro. More versatile and sounds amazing.

The 1606 Super only has 1 knob.

If you get the volume control to 75% of maximum or higher you'll start to the hear the breakup easily with a humbucker equipped guitar. With single coils you may need a clean boost as well to get a hotter signal to the amp. You absolutely have to get it to 75% or higher though to hear the natural breakup of the amp and it's going to be incredibly LOUD. Even at 5 watts though, consider using an attenuator if you just want to jam with it yourself.

@@in2mu5ic nope, it was a faulty pre amp tube, got it replaced, works like a charm now.

The other amps they make are all USA made, assuming these ones are too
