Well I'm not sure it works for gophers but it does work for groundhogs just stick a flare in 1 hole then stand over the 2nd hole with a baseball bat when it comes running out thump it and your done. Although sometimes 5 come running out so its best to have the whole fam in the yard with bats we call it groundhog baseball. Or you can try it the humane way and send them an eviction notice in the mail wait 30 days and hope there not assholes but they usually are so I recommend you skip that part and go straight to groundhog baseball. More fun and less stressful.

Gopher Gassers only burn for a short time but produce a lot more smoke. I think the road flare is more cost-effective. A neighbor routed vehicle exhaust thru a hose to do the same thing. The gopher probably thinks he's just living in Mexico City.

Review: I was very skeptical about this method as I am used to setting the "jaw" type traps (with varying success). Most of my mole "runs" have 3-4 entrances when I did into a "hill" so often I find traps sprung BUT NO MOLE. I finally decided to give this a try. The verdict? It has been 100% effective in the last week. First test I did was in an area with about 8-10 hills. Did exactly like shown in the video. 5 days later, no more mounds in this area. I live on 9 acres and must have at least 500 plus mounds. I used my tractor bucket to flatten the mounds and then watched for new activity. So far I have used 6 flares. In each of these areas, no new mounds! Might be too early to tell if this will do the trick but I am optimistic that it will continue to work. Thanks for the tip!

The 'runs' with 3-4 entrances are typically not the main runs you want to target. It's best to find the main runs and set traps there. The very best traps -- and I've tried many -- are the Putange traps they've been using since the 17th Century in France and Versailles Palace. They have a very small 'footprint' and can be slipped inside the runs. Creating a trap door (cover opening with maybe some wood or plasic piece near the traps and cover with dirt). You can then easily check the traps and reset when they catch something. I've not had a mole problem for over 2 years now and wasted my time and money on loads of useless stuff. Good luck on getting those buggers!

I have done this using some sort of flares from Home Depot that spit out poisonous gas when lit up. My backyard has a lot of gophers, they digs tunnels underground and every so often, when I walk in the backyard, the ground just sinks down. they also open up a lot of holes on the ground. After sticking the flares in the hole, I cover it with a brick so all the gas will circulate underground. The result is fantastic, no more gophers in my backyard AND .... my neighbor now complaints she got gophers. That is so funny,

@@JL-bo4bh yes. To test it attach a vacuum hose to your cars exhaust and then rut into your cars interior through a window. Get into the car and listen to some music or read a book. 😂🤣😂🤣😂 just joking…. The exhaust will kill any air breathing thing. It may take a bit of time. More time let’s the fumes spread.. You could even attach the hose to a riding mower. Be careful to not melt the hose. A short piece of metal flex hose where the exhaust leaves the engine will help let the exhaust cool down.

A small engine that smokes alot and some metal flex pipe that can be fitted over the exhaust. If it is a mini bike,go cart, quad bike,or three wheeler the kids can ride it when you aren't smoking critters to death underground. A 2-stroke motor is supposed to smoke alot so no additives needed except the fuel mix which the engine calls for anyway. An older one can be found pretty cheap and doesn't take much storage space. If that seems like too much trouble then you don't have too many critters.

Happy to say I have gotten rid of ALL my mole problems. None to speak of for 2 years!! One solution: take some needles and stick them at the end of a wine cork. BEST TRAPS by FAR: Putange mole traps. Once you know how to set them -- BTW you have to have STRONG hand strength -- and, create a 'trap door' for easy access to the trap you're on the right track to do some SERIOUS damage to the mole population within your garden. The only other solution might be is to create a physical barrier (concrete/metal) by digging lower than they do, which is not easy. There is so much misinformation or USLESS INFORMATION on the web regarding moles. It's been *extremely* hard to figure out what truly helps. I just know my methods worked for me. I'd do a youtube video but don't want my house surrounded by animal rights activists. 🙂

I think it depends on the region. The place I moved into 7 years ago has gophers in the whole neighborhood bad. My neighbor and I have tried everything. Our dirt is almost all clay with huge cracks in it (yes foundation issues with houses too). We have tried flooding, gopher poison bombs, poison, flares, traps, etc. So far the best luck we have had with the Gopher Hawk. It is about 50% effective and all the others are 25% at best.

@@spartanboxing1 Not hot water. The other thing that works is gas fumes down the hole and light it. That works for the holes and tunnels away from the house but the ones close to the house the Gopher Hawk is what we have been using. We get them eventually but the poison pellets, flares, gopher specific smoke things, etc have not worked. Traps are a complete waste of time. The flares work ok, but I've found that running my exhaust pipe i nto one hole, with a small shop vac at another point along the tunnel system (they are most ly connected), to suck the emissions thru works best. I place a piece of card board under the vac nozzle so I dont get a hose full of dirt. Keep the nozzle far enough way to not do that. It'l still create a draft to move the exhaust along. I use a metal flexible pipe to get the exhaust to the hole. You can get it at hose and fittings supply stores. Or, a garden hose you don't care about, but it can set up too much back flow because it isn't wide enough.

It does work.. very well on gophers, Kinda ok for moles. We don't play in yards, that being said, we use burning sulphur and a propane torch. My experience is, a 15 minute flare isn't enough. I've burned sulphur in a good run for up to a half hour, still chasing and sealing holes where the smoke is coming out. Gophers can have many miles of tunnel system and dig down to around 30 feet to their nests, so it takes a lot of smoke to fill it up and actually get them!!! Moles plug their runs, usually only within a few feet of the mound, but a lot of times they will block it as they go. Making it harder to get them... But, if you smoke everything really good, you get all the Beatles, Grubs, worms and other critters they eat.... No food, no moles.

I like my method. I go out in the yard and stomp their piles and tunnels down and then I get my pitchfork and stand there for a cpl minutes and when they start pushing the dirt back up, I stomp the pitchfork into the ground and 9 times out of 10 I pull the mole out on the tine. Even if it doesn't come out on the tine and you think you missed it, look at the tine. If its clean and wet you know you stuck 'em.It usually only takes a few minutes for 'em to show up and start opening their tunnels again. Some take longer so grab a chair and a beer.

Ronald Moore When you see the dirt moving, stick 'em with the pitchfork. After I drive it into the dirt, I pull back on the handle like I'm diggin with a spade. 🤨I like to bring 'em up outta the ground and meet 'em face to face and when I see 'em on the tine, I know I got him....(just dont bend your tines) Also, people think when they got 5 mounds of dirt piled up and tunnels running all over the yard that they have a yard full of mole's. They dont. Usually one culprit will do all that. And the bigger it is, the more it digs. When I get one, thats usually it til' another moves in.

Have I got a mole story for you. Being in the landscape business. I got a call from a regular customer to clean up the back yard in the autumn which meant to cut back some of the perennials. She has soft sandy soil all in the backyard, and the tunnels made by those moles are everywhere. I'm raking up the trimmings, and I see in the corner of my eye some underground movement. I figured they were moles, and they are a pest. always digging underground tunneling everywhere. So I stopped, and the mole is coming closer towards me. All the sudden it pops it's head up thru the grass. It's back is towards me, and I hear it say, "ummmmmm, I smell maple syrup!" What the hell? Next I see another lump in the ground in the same tunnel, and it's moving in the same direction of the first mole, and that mole pops up out of the same hole and I hear it say, "ummmmm, I smell honey!" Holy shit, two of them. I picked up my plastic rake, so it didn't feel the vibration coming from it, and I held my breath . Then I see still in the same tunnel, a smaller lump, another mole moving towards the other two. It got right underneath them both, and try as it might, it just couldn't squeeze thru the other two, and I heard it complain, "hey, all I smell ismoleasses." True story.

LostInMySpace I have heard variations of this story all my life but I still get a laugh from every time I see kids or someone in a wheelchair stuck in a crowd of people since their faces are ass high!

I did the same thing years ago but to raise the toxicity of the smoke I'd wrap the flare in old nylon or polyester cloth.

There are flare style rodent killer bombs that work the same way...possibly a bit cheaper as they come in packs of 4 and have a fuse.

@@Dr_No I wish that I knew how to do what you are doing for mole control. Do you put the needles in the cork in the mole runs? I wish that you could better explain how you do this.
