I'll go ahead and say it, the SureFire Minimus is probably the best head lamp I've ever used...
One caveat would be weight, but then it comes back to application. If you need usable light, because you have a task that requires you to use your hands, this is it. It gives you varying degrees of light, 5 to 300 lumens, right where you need it, in front of you. And there isn't a blazing hot spot. Nice even light.

I have had a minimus for about two years now and it's definitely not the lightest, brightest, or anything "est", but it's just done SO well. The adjustments are awesome. Batteries that I already have a ton of. Big fan. Stoked to see you like it too!

i have an early version of this light i got from my buddy. it doesn’t have the button but has a smooth variable switch. it’s probably twenty years old and works great. the tint is a little cool for me but i heard the new ones are warmer and much brighter. the smooth even wide beam is just the ticket for up close out to around 30 feet for my old one. definitely worth the price for a long life and a lifetime warranty you’ll probably never use.

It's a good admin/camp/work around the house headlamp. But yeah it's big and bulky, obviously not something you want if you're backpacking and or in a situation where every ounce counts. I have a ton of rechargeable LFP123s and it's great for that.

It’s perfectly suitable for its task. Always wanted one for EMS in the woods. Don’t need 1600 lumens. I need to see my patients, and being able to slap in cR123s all night is fine. Surefire is the king of flood.

I've see the headlamp, kinda wish it has more throw or maybe a dedicated refldctor for backpacking use. Love Surefire, own a few handhelds and also a searchlight. Recently been switching over to Streamlight only because they are so much better in value.

the 27.00 sidekick has the same specs ,led and runtime. it weighs nothing and is rechargeable. b&h has the surefire headband for 14.00.

I like this headlamp a lot, but you have to understand what it is for and it’s in the name minimus. It’s not a search light. It’s not a pocket headlamp. It is a headlamp that takes the same battery as your handheld, your WML and maybe even your Eotech. It’s a great task light. It’s a great light for moving through the dark where you a not necessarily wanting to spot light yourself “here I am.” My only slight complaint is I would like the headband to be more intuitive to adjust between my head and say a stocking cap.

I have the older version and at times when i check it it emits a very low lumen light while turned off (lowest lumen while on is lets say 5 lumens, during storage it emits maybe 1 lumen or so), so at times when im going to use the headlamp its low batt at the worst possible time during an emergency. i did not notice it right away until a few battery changes as its always out of juice and thought i was just clicking the switch by accident. This is may be the reason why they added an additional tap/ click switch. I’ve read in another forum that they cannot turn off their saint as well (that is what happend to me). Im trying to replicate mine again and get a video.

The Surefire Minimus is the worst headlamp in my extensive collection. It's too heavy, insanely inefficient battery usage, poor controls that require both hands to hold the lamp (or it spins freely in the mount), horrible battery drain while sitting unused, and twice as expensive as better lights. I recommend Zebralight with an 18650 rechargeable.

mine battery drained horribly. if left loaded it would die within a week with zero use.

It isn't a light for you anyway. Way too heavy for backpacking. But if you're doing a task that requires both hands, and ipso facto a headlamp, probably one of the best things going...
