I always drop in and snake at pipeline. It gives me a chance to practice my mma skills with the local brah's.

There is an exception to this rule. When surfing a crowded or high level break, if someone is too deep and won't make it, then it's more acceptable to drop in.

Sam F you have to be really far down the line. Every idiot that paddles for a wave, sees me coming and doesn’t think I’ll make it but I do, then pulls out and causes the wave to break prematurely. Now there’s no lip to hit, just another goddamn section to pass because some fool paddled and backed out.
@johnkoepke48072 жыл бұрын
@@jonnyzuma6884 You must be surfing some awful waves if the surfers pulling back are affecting your "lip." Smh
@A-FrameWedge Жыл бұрын
I did that at Pipeline, I could see the surfer Dane Kealoah was part of the lip on his takeoff and was never going to make it, despite that after he got pummeled by the wave he paddles over to me and tells me to get out of the water, I said c’mon you were never gonna make that drop. I stayed out and he never said anything else to me that day, this was back in 1984.

I'm a beginner surfer and got snaked relentlessly the other day. Seems like more beginners need to watch this video.

My friends and I drop in on each other on purpose. Whoever gets knocked off their board takes the wave. Kind of like American gladiators. And overtime it will improve your balance and reaction time on the wave.

So lets say i happen to get into a wave first since I’m on a longboard and catching a wave early, then a short boarder drops in a little further on the inside, makes it and catches up to me. He’s snaking me, right? I got off both time he did it and said sorry and he waited on the beach to chew me out. Apparently he’s a local and any wave he’s on is his.

drop in rule = to wave type! , ie pipe line vs tourmoline slider.i long board smtimes 3 - 4 guys one wave no problem( gidget movie) then i surf big rock, drop in rules in full effect!!! all depends, main thing is always take the blame and apologize even if u right, goes a long way to a good session. fun. its why i surf.how bout u ?

TO beat the snakes - try setting up deeper and paddling for a wave sooner and harder that makes is tougher for them to paddle around you also - get closer to the peak - yeah, its a tougher drop, but that is how to get your wave and not give them all away

If you paddle out for a big set wave and a guy is deeper but doesn't even see it until it's on him then who gets the wave? My one friend told me that the deepest guy always gets the wave but my other friend also said he heard it that whomever went out for the wave first should get it.

Here's an interesting question: A longboarder is sitting further out to sea than a shortboarder, but they are both exactly in line with each other from shore to sea, so that when a wave comes, neither one is closer to the peak. The longboarder paddles first and stands up first. The shortboard also paddles and will stand up directly in front of the longboarder. In order to avoid the shortboarder, the longboarder can either go around him a) closer to the peak, or b) further away from the peak. Who has priority, and does it make a difference which way round him the longboarder goes? If the longboarder goes around him closer to the peak, is he snaking the shortboarder?
@192837qwert4 жыл бұрын
Usually they have priority because they've started paddling before you and already have the momentum of the wave so it doesn't matter if he gets closer to the peak or not when he goes past you. What matters the most is who has been waiting the longest. If the longboarder keeps catching the waves , not caring about who s been waiting before him. Drop in on him.
@darleyt12 жыл бұрын
@@192837qwert Agree, longboard only has the priority if he has been waiting longer. Never catch every wave on a log and try not to paddle to a peak where everyone is on a shortboard sure fire way to piss everybody off.

There's more to snaking than this explains. Snaking is just going out of turn. Pretty much all skaters no this shit but some surfers seem to be fucken ignorent. They think just because they are on your inside its their wave. But lots of surfers just don't give a fuck anyway. Imagaine being in the top 44 and just having one other guy out....... That would be AWESOME!!!

it's funny she sounded like she's British or oz-trailian. am I wrong or is Australian style: party wave every wave? I don't know about English surf etiquette when they have waves but here in so cal (and I know the north shore of Oahu's seven mile miracle is the same) she has the idea correct. new Zealand looks like they enjoy having a wave to themselves so maybe they differ from their Australian neighbors?

Ambrose Bierce: "Kooks" "A large and powerful tribe whose influence in surfboarding affairs is always dominant and controlling. The kook's activity is not confined to any particular surf craft, but pervades and regulates the whole. He or she has the last word in everything: the decision of kook is unappealable. They set the fashion and opinion and taste, dictate the limitations and circumscribe with a dead-line" Couldn't have said it better myself. God help the rest of us

Prolly never surfed OC... or North County... or just plain surfed lol. being a snake, getting snaked, dropping in or being dropped in on is, unfortunately part of surfing... just the facts mam.. Wow! I was skeptical but this was actually a very good video. Should show it to all surfers. My biggest annoyance in the surf is a blatant snaker. Happens all the time around here. And I don't mean those guys who paddle inside you, wait 5 minutes then snake you. That's ok in my book (unless its a SUP or mal taking the biggest set wave every time, then you are free to stab them in the carpark). I mean the ones who just try to catch wave after wave after wave... maybe you could include that in your next vid. Tell people to chill the f.o.! Be patient. Don't be a douche! Hahaha

It actually starts at the line up.its like a lunch line.you last to show up you last to catch.when it's your turn if you shoot for the wave and choked you go in the back of the line.its that simple.thats how it really works.not paddle back out right away and catch another one and think it's yours just because your on the inside.

The first example makes no sense to me, they both went for the wave right next to each other and are both on it before it breaks?
@rhidiandavies19916 жыл бұрын
That part of the wave was a left-hander, so she was closer to the breaking part of the wave than he was; this means that when the break-water catches up to them both. he'll be in front of her blocking her from going left and squeezing her out. On more powerful waves it's pretty dangerous and is just generally annoying since she would have made more out of the wave than he would. You get it now?

The wave is huge.. Why cant they just all share it instead of hogging it for themself
@gantz4u10 ай бұрын
They dont come straight in to shore. They like to ride the waves parallel to the beach and carve up and down the wave to extend their rides. If 2 people are doing that on the same wave they can run into each other. But yeah no reason I can think why 5 girls can ride straight to shore on their long boards on the same wave. Theres not enough waves to obey this rule and your hogging the ocean like you own it when you think youre entitled to ride your wave 15 miles down the coast line and need to find a more secluded spot if you feel that way. Maybe this etiquette system works with your 5 buddies on your private spot but not on a public beach. On a public beach dont expect others to know or learn your rules you made up. Also BJJ and Thai kickboxing. New rule: if youre from a landlocked state and have no idea surf etiquette is a thing. Every wave is defacto yours until you dont catch it.

That is like saying to not have road rules, it would be pretty crazy. Even if a few surfers aren't following the rules it can get dangerous. It isn't saying anyone owns the ocean, but showing respect to others means everyone has a better surf.
