A short video about catching surf perch with a rooster tail spinner. I cast as far as I could into the white foam in the surf since that's where the surf perch are located as they feed on sand crabs that churn up in the crashing waves.

Good idea using spinners for perch and nice rigging. To save the knot, use a small bead between the weight and swivel. Great fun, thanks for posting!!

I’m dying of envy PK! Two incidental salmon caught feeding amongst red tail in the same outing. You are absolutely “the man” my friend. I’ve caught quite a few salmon casting into miscellaneous Oregon bays and lower estuaries over the years but never I’ve never caught one surf fishing. Ever! You were absolutely correct in releasing it as they both had adipose fins which you cannot take coho anywhere in the NW zone. Little feeder coho. On roostertails!

Nice catch thanks for sharing. The point of barbless hooks is reducing the damage, it does not relate to one being able to take the fish or not. Actually, I would only use barbed hooks if I would intend to keep the fish at any cost, otherwise stick to barbless.

Replace the treble hook with a split ring and siwash hook (same way you’d rig a spinner for steelhead) and you won’t harm the fish; make it barbless and you’ll be legal for salmonids too 👍 love your videos

We catch Cohos, and especially Pinks, from shore in the Puget Sound regularly, but catching Cohos in the surf? That's cool. Everybody who's ever fished has tossed back a bleeder at one time or another, and felt bad about it. Wanted to keep it too, if it was big enough to eat and no one was looking. But the crab have to eat too, so no worries. Keep it up, love your vids.

All salmon except coho is open from March 15 through October 31 from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mt. There’s a minimum of 24 inches on chinook and a minimum of 20 inches on steelhead. No minimum length for pink, chum, or sockeye. Fin clipped coho from June 27 through August 16 or sooner with a 22,000 quota.

Warning! Do not use too short a leader or let your weight be next to your lure with a treble hook when fishing in Oregon. From page 19 of the 2018 regulations: "With hooks larger than 5/8 inch gap or multiple point hook, weight must be attached 18 inches or more above the uppermost hook."

They do for stream fishermen as it is one method of detecting snaggers. If you get caught with too many fish or out of season fish it is just one more thing they can look to cite you.
