I operated excavators for 46 years although komatsu builds some decent excavators that are operator friendly ill take a CAT any day of the week over a komatsu!.

No I was lucky enough to have a nack for running equipment. But the international union of operating engineers has training sites in all 50 states and some companies here in Ohio will hire you as a trainee and work you as they train you and the union is OK with that!. To have good retirement and hospitalized joining the union is the way to go!. They need operators in the worst way in Ohio!.

I retired from the Army (was a 52E, prime power production) and was hired by a very large international diesel corporation as a field service technician. We marinized large to huge Komatsu engines for use in large marine propulsion/generator applications. From catamaran ocean ferries, MY’s, generators on the north slope to shrimp farms in Belize. Komatsu engines perform excellently and fairly easy to work on. Worked on MAN’s , Detroit Diesel, ONAN, Yanmar. Caterpillar’s and I enjoy Komatsu blocks. Never worked on any with a transmission, drive line or wheels but, with a generator end or marine gearbox, they are top of the line.

Nothing comes close to the D11. Period. The record of these machines speaks for itself. I ran a 86 D10 for yrs. Thr predecessor of the D11N. Ran a D11 N short time... the CATS are just built to last. The old 992C was a workhorse as well... they just keep running when the Komatsu is in the shop. No comparison. CAT all the way for mining and heavy duty bull work

i don't know much about construction and mining but from what i have read and seen, Komatsu bulldozers vs American bulldozers are exact antithesis of American Vs Japanese cars in terms of reliability, quality and efficiency which is quite surprising

Before I retired I ran 2 of Komatsu's smaller dozers. The D85 and D65. I found the two (one on either side) controls for travel and blade controls friendly for the operator and as I am a HD mechanic found them both friendly to service or repair. As I understand the larger machines are the same way for operator and mechanic alike. The cabs are so quiet ear /hearing protection is no longer needed.

I've run Komatsu dozers of various sizes, and I thought they were okay, but I worked at a mine where they leased a 575 super dozer with a counterweight instead of a ripper. They always had to run a D11 with it to rip for it and pull it out when it got stuck. After 6 months, they sent it back and bought a brand new D11. Talking to some of the operators that ran it, that were objective, they mentioned the problem of it getting stuck a lot, but they said in conditions that it liked, it would move a mountain of material. At another mine I worked at, they had 475's when I first started, but it wasn't too long until the 475's gradually disappeared and were replaced with D11's. I think I heard that Komatsu quit making the 575, but I don't know for sure.
@stanburk7392
@stanburk7392 6 ай бұрын
They did quit making it. Not enough demand and apparently issues with the transmission were the predominant issues. I am sure there are other reasons why but that's my limited knowledge of them. Like a lot of things you get to a size that works but bigger starts not being so efficient.

I must say all the Komatsu dozers are the smoothest I have ever ridden as long as you are moving forward. Backing into a stump with a track is just plain rude so thinking ahead and paying attention to where you want to be without a fellas lower back reminding you that nature always wins eh, LOL. Thanks, Good post. If I had to choose Cat or Komatsu I lean towards the Komatsu. Retired now so I really miss the days when I was making things happen on a logging show.

With how far technology has come I’m surprised that more of this equipment has not been developed to be operated remotely. Just think of a front end loader if the whole machine was designed without having to make everything operate from a cab it would bring down build costs and the operator could work remotely.

No way a passenger jet will go 700+ miles on that little fuel. A Piper Cub might do it.
@stanburk7392
@stanburk7392 6 ай бұрын
The jet they compare it to is a 737. It burns 850 gallons per hour at a cruise speed of 515 mph. 554 gallons is 65% of 850. that 737 would use that up in 40 minutes. 40 minutes at 514 mph is 340 miles. a piper cub uses 5 gallons per hour at 75 mph. so 554 gallons would take the cub roughly 8,300 miles. Of course not counting take off and landing for either aircraft just flying at cruise speed no tail wind head wind. B 737 340 miles Cup 8,300 miles. I gotta get a life.

Huge energy needed on every step until ORE is processed and produce metals. These "monster" machines are beneficial, but may consume more than 20 liter diesel per every tonne ore. Correct me if I am wrong. if so then every day will be consumed some hundreds barrel with diesel.
