After receiving a new Okuma surf reel I just had to go give it a flick off the west coast - nothing big was around that day so a couple days later I headed to one of my fav spot X's. The great thing is we come in by boat so it's not overly fished. That's the one thing I love about the little Osprey, the easy-ness when you want to do a little adventure like this - it's just easy in every way.
Muriwai provided me the first fish on the new reel, but it was my second adventure with Pea to our spot X that gave it a good workout... My first bait produced a nice snap around 60cm and if you catch a fish like that first pop here you know you're in for a good surfcast sesh. We only get 3-4hrs fishing this spot due to it being a sand bar that shows up a couple hours before the low, but if the fish are here it can be full on the whole time.
