I made all the way from the Canaries to Australia and surfed this wave. Funny barrels when it is smaller, but you don't want to fail. Also, the side currents are quite strong. After 2 hours you are completely done. There is another awesome bodyboard spot not far from there. Don't pervert these waves as they are only fun if they are not crowded. Respect the locals 🦈😂

I lived here for a while in the 80's. I saw the locals backdoor it when it was smaller. Unreal. I also saw it at this size and completely perfect. No one out. I actually couldn't comprehend being out there. I stood on the reef and it shook when the wave hit. It really put my limited skill into perspective. It was awesome. Not a drop out of place. Consider that.

Gilloes aint backdoor. She's far meaner. Not that I would know. 5-7 foot theres a glorious barrel, Like Kirra. Heavy. She's too unpredictable. At least at Pipe you,ve got the caves and the water. At Gilloes, you've got the rock. I'll take Backdoor on "before" I ever take Gilloes at eight (8) feet.
