SURPRISE! LAST MINUTE TRIP TO THE BAHAMAS - Fishing in Chub Cay
Talk about LAST MINUTE! Within a matter of 48 hours we packed our personal bags, fishing gear, camera gear, Kona's necessities, got on a plane and flew to Chub Cay. With the weather blowing 15 knots we knew it was going to be a tad bumpy but nothing too bad. What we didn't consider was that we weren't going to be in our 32' boat! 🙃 Regardless of the conditions, we got out there and made the most of our time in the Bahamas! I got ciguatera poisoning while living and working in St Thomas. Only time in my life i officially took off sick time. It is said that subsequent occurences drastically increase the symptoms and chance of death. In the grand scheme it is particularly quite rare. Even if there were 500k cases per year that would be less than one in a million chance. I'll take those odds.

Chub Cay is awesome! Remember “Cay” is pronounced “Key” there. Haha. And also know any large fish that comes off the reef can carry ciguatera, including that stud Cero so be careful and test it by only eating a small portion and waiting 4 hours! You’ll know if it’s good or not because you’ll be in the bathroom as if the fish was old. Most people don’t realize large King, Ceros, Jacks, snapper, grouper and even lobster can carry the cig!

Slightly challenging platform. I do that in my 18.5' Maverick DMA Skiff, but I added 0 degree rod holders amidship right by the cockpit and use them with Rod Riggers. Very challenging indeed to remain up on front or aft top decks while trolling, especially with planers. Nice display of well organized chaos 😁

As suggested in another comment, if you haven’t already, filet a small barracuda and try it. You may be surprised. I was. Alternatively, in the Bahamas chunks of barracuda as bait for deep dropping is favorite of many natives.

I didn't learn much from this vid but what I did learn is you two never quit and I love that, even on aini vaka your working! Your young and your with your friends in the Bahamas they are having a good time at the sand bar and what do you two do? You go to work shooting vid fishing this is why all of us follow you two! It's great to watch such talented HARD WORKERS go after what they want and makes me proud to support you two. Keep doing what your doing and we will keep watching ,buying and supporting you awesome Captains!

My parent once catched a cuda that it puelled very hard, and supostly they say that the ones that pull hard does not have the ciguatera. But a couple days later we ate that cuda and yup, we got the ciguatera. A friend of ours also came and ate the cuda. We literally had to call an ambulance of how bad they were, when the ambulance got there they asked that friend of ours to open his mouth and he could not open it at all. So we just rushed to the hospital and when we got there they got my moms pulse and it was like VERY VERY low. From that day to today we dont want to eat any more cudas. I mean they say it makes for a good bait! Also, people say smaller cudas have less chance of getting the ciguatera.
